We know this?  How do we KNOW this?

Baloney, we know nothing of the kind.  You may feel this way but that is all you have is a feeling.

Deductive reasoning? Why would Jay Gruden, who's had his fill of raw quarterbacks, and has always deferred to a veteran signal-caller all the while knowing he's entering his 6th season on the hot season all of the sudden reverse course and pin his future and this year's hopes on a rookie? Besides, who in this organization has a history of signing quarterbacks arbitrarily regardless of the head coach's wishes? Steve Spurrier and Patrick Ramsey. Mike Shanahan and RG3/Donovan McNabb. Who knows with Jason Campbell and Gibbs, though Vinny always claimed it was a group decision. Jay wanting Haskins at this time makes absolutely no sense to me and reeks of another front office power play.

Jay was handed a really tough dilemma when the team drafted Haskins, and he knew in year 6, and with both he and Bruce saying to everybody who would listen that they reason they lost was the injuries, they had to win.

Its kindof like the kobayashi maru, the unsolvable problem from Star Trek.

What Jay tried to do was ignore Haskins’ existence, have KO work with him a bit, and focus on Colt and Case.  And there is no question Colt was going to be the starter if healthy.

This was the wrong strategy entirely.

When you are faced with a problem like this, you have to be really creative.  The right strategy would have been to immediately go all in on Haskins. Whether he wanted Haskins or not doesn’t matter.  Jay should have committed to getting Haskins out there early.  Had a plan for it, and committed to it.  It really was the only way for him to succeed this year.  Not in terms of wins and losses.  But in terms of keeping his job.

What he tried to do didn’t work. And going to Colt now is pointless.

Yeah it really doesn't add up. Jay is coming into this season knowing full well that he's on the hot seat and will likely be fired if the team has a bad season, and he's going to pine for a QB who has talent but will take time to develop due to an major lack of starting experience? Pretty much everyone and their mother knew that Haskins likely wasn't going to be able to start for a while.

I think Jay came into this season with the plan of Colt starting (he just seems to absolutely love that dude for some unknown reason) but then they grabbed Keenum to compete for the job (who knows if Jay even had anything to do with that) and Jay's plan was probably to have Keenum as a backup to Colt, but then Colt's injury was taking longer to heal than they thought so they went with Keenum.

Being on the hot seat like he is, I don't see much chance that Jay is going to take a ton of time working on developing Haskins. What's the point in that if he'll be gone next season? Maybe Jay wasn't 100% dug in opposed to drafting Haskins but I wouldn't be surprised if, at the very best, he was lukewarm on the idea. Also, was there ever any proof to the rumor that Jay gave play calling over to O'Connell after Haskins went in against NY?
