The prestigious Quarterback Club Redskins Player of the Year Award will be announced Tuesday evening, with Champ Bailey, Laveranues Coles, John Hall, Patrick Ramsey and Fred Smoot as the nominees.

Each of the five nominees represent either the offense, defense and special teams.

Here’s a look at their credentials:

Champ Bailey, CB

Bailey has battled through a shoulder injury and a broken hand to start all 13 games so far this season. He has recorded 66 tackles, two interceptions, 15 pass deflections and a forced fumble this season.

In Week 4, Bailey had his best game of the season when he recorded six tackles and a leaping interception against the New England Patriots.

Bailey made a key play on New England’s first possession of the second half, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Matt Bowen at the Patriots’ 1-yard line. Ladell Betts converted a touchdown one play later.

Laveranues Coles, WR

Coles has emerged as the Redskins’ primary receiving threat in just his first season with the team. He has started every game so far this season and logged 69 catches for 1,023 yards, a 14.8 yards-per-catch average. He has four games of 100-plus receiving yards and has recorded four touchdown catches as well.

Coles’ best game came in Week 2 against Atlanta when he recorded 11 receptions for 180 yards (both career highs) and a touchdown catch as the Redskins rallied from an early 17-point deficit. Seven of his catches in the game resulted in first downs.

Coles also set a modern-day NFL record this season when he recorded at least five receptions in 19 consecutive games (dating back to last season).

John Hall, K

Hall has solidified the Redskins’ kicker position with a strong year after signing with the team last March. He has converted 24-of-30 field goals and 22-of-23 PATs for 94 total points. He has four field goals of 50 yards or more.

Hall’s best game was his first as a Redskin and it came against his former team, the New York Jets. Hall was 3-for-3 on field goals and had a 50-yarder. With five seconds remaining, he nailed a 33-yarder to win the game 16-13.

Hall also converted four field goals in the Week 5 game at Philadelphia, including a 53-yarder.

Patrick Ramsey, QB

Ramsey proved his toughness all season, battling through a series of injuries to start 11 games before being placed on injured reserve Dec. 8 with a bruised bone in his right foot. For the season, he completed 179-of-337 passes for 2,166 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. His quarterback rating was 76.4.

Ramsey had a career game in Week 2 against Atlanta when he was 25-of-39 for a career-high 348 passing yards. He also threw two touchdowns in guiding the Redskins to a 33-31 comeback. A week later, he was 23-of-45 for 348 yards in a 24-21 loss to the New York Giants. The consecutive 300-plus yard passing games marked the first time a Redskins QB had accomplished the feat since Mark Rypien in 1991.

In the Week 10 win over Seattle, Ramsey was 17-of-32 for 232 yards and two touchdowns as he helped rally the Redskins from an early deficit.

Fred Smoot, CB

Smoot has started 12 of 13 games so far this year and has emerged as one of the team’s vocal leaders in just his third NFL season.

This year, he has 51 tackles and three interceptions, which is tied for the team lead with safeties Matt Bowen and Ifeanyi Ohalete. If Smoot leads the team in interceptions, it would be the first time ever that a Redskins player has done so in three consecutive seasons.

Smoot suffered a bruised sternum in Week 6 against Tampa Bay and was forced to sit out the following game. After the team’s bye, he made a heroic effort coming back for the Week 9 Dallas game to record six tackles. A week later against Seattle, Smoot’s interception of quarterback Matt Hasselbeck came with 39 seconds remaining, clinching a Redskins win.
