From Lenny P. the morning after article;

"Boy, nice move by (offensive line coach) Kim Helton in Washington, huh? The media gives him a chance to talk about how the line has improved recently, and how does he respond, huh? He tells people the line isn't really playing much better, but that the backup quarterback (Tim Hasselbeck) has made a difference. Talk about professional suicide. Basically, the guy ripped (injured) starter Patrick Ramsey, who clearly is the No. 1 guy and a player who is respected in the Redskins locker room and around the league. So what's the difference between Ramsey and Helton? Well, the first will be back in Washington in 2004 and Helton won't be. The only thing that can save him is that (Steve) Spurrier's contract gives him control over the staffing and maybe he would fight (owner) Dan Snyder on some things. But then again, Spurrier essentially fired Helton once already this year."

Helton is no more than LeCharles McDaniel, Model II reincarnated :mad:

This line has not improved at all in 2 years despite the talent that has been assembled.

Even though it was a different scheme, Russ Grimm was a teacher who made good progress with younger players like Jon Jansen, Chris Samuels and Cory Raymer.

You could see these guys improve year by year.

Right now the club is dead in the water. Where is the coming together that everyone said was going to happen?

Coming together? I'm seeing them falling apart.

Champ and Lavar want out. The coaches are polishing up their resumes. The rest of the players -- the ones who are stuck here until their contracts are up -- are just looking forward to cashing two more game checks before they hit the golf course.

I agree that the Skins' staff is missing experienced hands, but isn't that part of Spurrier's contract responsibilties, assembling the staff? :)

He chose these guys. The only coach he didn't directly hire was Marvin Lewis and that was the one coach in the past 2 years that actually accomplished something.

You're right Bulldog, Spurrier doesn't have the years of being an assistant NFL coach and knowing what he needs to win, staff, players, playcalling, etc.

With Spurrier there is no short term success. It's going to take a few more years, but there's no way this team is going to wait that long. We really do need a GM that knows what he is doing, and a FO staff to go with him. Have him hire a head coach from among the NFL pool.

M. Lewis would have been a good fit here, but even someone like that couldn't have done it by himself. A Parcells or Vermeil type maybe could succeed without a true GM, but we need a complete overhaul.

I think we'll get there someday, but it's going to take Snyder to do it. Expect the same next year until or owner realizes this has been a failure. The only thing to try is to hire a NFL legit competant GM and hand him the keys.

...Basically the problem with this organization runs deep. A complete purge, not of players, but as a whole FO/Coaching staff is needed. Actually Spurrier could be kept, but we need to build around him. He can't do it all by himself. He needs support around him. It's not going to happen in one year next year, it may never happen for him here.

Spurrier said there will be some restructuring and changes in the off season, but wouldn't go into specifics, says will talk about after the season.

I am all for firing Helton, BUT give credit where credit due, Hasslebeck for the most part has much better pocket presence and gets rid of the ball faster than PR.
