Your logic here is flawed if Trent wants to play and he goes back in and plays against the medical staffs wishes how can he blame the medical staff? And that's what Trent (among others) has done and probably will continue to do regardless of the medical staff.

No, he can’t. If they don’t give their okay to the coaches, they’re not allowed to play them. That’s how this works.

If you’re insinuating that Trent and others constantly hide their injuries and, therefore, the medical staff isn’t responsible... well, I think that’s frankly absurd, but even were that to be the case I’d still hold them somewhat accountable because they should have a system in place that makes it difficult for players to do so.

I don’t get what you’re saying here. Do you think a player can just tell the team doctors, “I want to play” and they just HAVE to abide?

That is not how it works. The medical staff tells the coaches which players can actually go and which ones can’t.

The proof is in the pudding that players ultimately make the final decision over the medical staff because if it wasn't that way. Then why did the NFL implement independent doctors on the sideline for concussions. With a rule in place for that independent person to have the final say, because players were over ruling the staffs advice.

They implemented that system precisely as a means to avoid players hiding it, like I mentioned above. And if that's happening with other injuries within our own team, then they should follow suit and do what it takes to prevent that. More than that, really, the NFL was worried about potential lawsuits erupting from the whole concussions issue.

But this is a bad example because concussion-related symptoms can fly under the radar pretty easily. That doesn’t mean the doctors never had final say and the players always could do what they want.

I’ve never heard a HC say anything other than that they need the approval of the team doctors to allow an injured player to practice or play.

Any new developments on this topic?

Beside people battling each other online..

Last I saw was Morgan Moses said that the training staff or medical staff what ever has been rumored to be the problem.  Is exactly why Trent isn't there with the team. So he confirmed it isn't about money.

So In other words we might need a LT now.

If any player doesn't want to be a Redskin then goodbye. The main problem I have is why Williams has waited until now to request a trade, trade him to a contender for no less than a 1st round pick and if not let him sit the season out and use the 12m cap space towards resigning Sherff. I love Williams as a player but no player is bigger than the Washington Redskins.

The problem is that if Trent gets traded and the medical staff isn't at least thoroughly examined then it may have an effect on whether or not Scherff wants to come back.

This has gotten out of hand back to my original post I am not defending the medical staff. I am simply saying if Trent is upset with our medical staff he's a hypocrite because he has not cooperated with them in the past when it suited him. i.e hidden injuries.

This assumes he has never said anything to the team and just now decided to spring it on them. Just because this is the first we have heard does not mean it’s the first time he has brought it up to the team.

In fact,  while that is I guess possible, it seems highly unlikely that he never said anything until now. What seems more likely is that he has been telling them for months, maybe years and got tired of them ignoring him.

Does ut make it right for him to make it public?  I don’t know since I do not know the particulars.  If they truly mishandled things that put his life at risk and then ignored him then he is fully within his rights.

Until we know exactly, if we ever do know, it’s hard for me to be too upset with Trent.   I just hope they both find a good solution.

Hate to say it because I love Trent and wanted him to be a lifelong Skin and realize how great he's been for us. But maybe we should cut ties with him if this can't easily be resolved. Don't need this cancerous attitude to infect the entire locker room. And we certainly don't need to be paying him top money he's getting too old and is missing too many games to do that. If this doesn't blow over soon I think cutting or trading him to send a message is the best plan of action.

Do you have any concern that the message that the team would be sending is that - If the team has to chose between the concerns of a corporate sponsor (Inova), and the concerns of the team's best and longest tenured player, they will chose the sponsor.  If there are a lot of players on the team that agree that the medical staff is a problem, I think the message being sent is that the team places the happiness of corporate sponsors over the health and wellbeing of the players.

Can we get an idea or background info on what exactly was the issue with the “tumor”? Right now we are just speculating. I agree this is not good timing but it sounds like the front office was aware of this matter beforehand and probably hoped Trent would still just show up. I wanna know how and what the front office did or didn’t do to resolve this matter.

Look it’s his life and health and I can understand him not trusting the team doctors or being pissed. After all Alex and Colt are two examples of botched surgery. Hopefully this situation can be resolved some way.

Pay the dude.

Unless upcoming CBA changes things, teams must throw away how contracts previously were done and be proactive in adding guarantees/years to a deal.

No way Trent should be sitting on a deal with two years remaining and no guarantees, especially by today’s new standards. Teams must reward certain players who signed long term deals towards the end, if play warrants it.

I myself am battling cancer, and originally was misdiagnosed with what type I originally had by a team of oncologists but with this disease it is so tricky to figure out exactly what is going on inside that I in no way way blame the doctors for not getting it correct on the first go around-I have had over a dozen different biopsy’s to nail down exactly what I have and how to treat it..and believe me,if I was able to get out and work-two years or twenty on a contract I’d be grateful to be able to get my ass out there and fulfill my obligations!!..I get it that he feels underpaid at his current salary but he wasn’t breaking an arm to reach into his wallet to give any of those millions back on either year he wasn’t able to play a full 16 games..Trents not happy,I get it but bring it to the powers that be and deal with it like a true professional, not wait till you can hold the team hostage and threaten to leave or be traded!!..I’ve always loved how he played and represented himself for the sake of this team..now I’m just extremely disappointed in how he’s acted and played his hands..just my thoughts on this ordeal

So if a player hasn’t cooperated with them once or twice, it’s ok if they poison them with an incorrect drug prescription? Or if they just half-ass a surgery? Or if they tell them everything is fine when it isn’t and it gets worse?

I mean, at what point, in your mind, is it not hypocritical to take issue with something the medical staff has done? It’s that simple to you? He hasn’t cooperated therefore anything they do should be acceptable and he can’t have any problem with it?

The dude had something terrifying happen with his friggin head for God’s sake. He’s human. You’re mad that he’s upset? Geez. I mean, if you said you just don’t like the way he’s handling it and it should’ve stayed in house, I could get that train of thought (though we don’t know how much of it was handled behind closed doors and what, if anything, caused the tipping point).

I’m moving on from this now. You can have the last word on it.

As for what’s going on... I’m listening to John Keim’s most recent podcast right now. He and Tarik Al-Bashir spell it out really well. Tarik specifically mentioned something that has to do with what I’ve been going on about for years regarding fans, as is their norm, attacking the coaching staff for everything when often times it’s something deeper organizationally.

He said that it’s all really divided into three different parts. You’ve got the strength and conditioning guys lead by Chad Englehart. You’ve got the athletic training staff ran by Larry Hess. And then you’ve got the medical staff that is headed by doctors like James Andrews and Robin West.

Tarik states that Chad does a great job and that he’s heard nothing but good things from the players regarding strength and conditioning (John chimes in and says it’s been unanimous in terms of players being pleased with them). As for the athletic training staff headed by Larry Hess, he said, “not so much”, to which John subtly adds, “right”. And, finally, regarding the medical staff, they both said they have zero access to them and didn’t mention what, if anything, the players have said.

I’ve made multiple posts regarding this when fans have attacked the strength and conditioning staff (usually as a means of trashing Jay), that it’s likely an organizational issue and not a coaching one (per the norm). I’ve specifically pointed at Larry Hess who’s been here forever. I honestly didn’t think the medical staff themselves would be an issue, but here we are.

So I wasn’t surprised to hear John and Tarik affirm this at all. It’s how I’ve felt for a while now.

To Dan’s credit, and Tarik mentioned this, he hasn’t necessarily been cheap about addressing it. But it doesn’t seem like he has been effective with where he’s put his money. I don’t know what the relationship with INOVA entails, either... I know Dr. West is a part of that. There is something off about it all, though. The amount of injuries, the amount of players in the past who’ve complained, and now one of our biggest leaders... it’s definitely worrisome.

That's is very possible....remember many  athletes have their own set of trainers/Dr's and specialist. So to live or die by one set of Dr's or this staff is basically on them, IMHO.  My point earlier was Trent could be seen as hypocritical by calling out this staff when he has proven not to fully cooperate with said staff in the past!
Our head team physician and chairman of Inova sports medicine Robin V West has a pretty darn good track record, working with the Steelers for 11 years during 3 Super Bowls, 2 WINS. Leaving Pittsburg to Virginia to build Inova's new sports medicine program. She is also the Washington Nationals lead team physician. B SCHERFF just stated how he was happy with his results from surgery and rehab working with Dr West as well...." “I’m working with the training staff. Dr. (Robin) West did my surgery and she’s been here,”  .....“It’s nice to be here to actually ask what I can improve on. She’s got a plan set for me. I’m working with (strength and conditioning coach) Chad (Englehart). I’ve been here pretty much all off-season. They know my body and that’s what’s best for me.”NBC SPORTS
IMHO..If Trent is trying to use this as leverage to gain more money / contract I would cut ties with him using the best manner possible to help this team!

I'm an Occam's Razor kinda guy.   Trent has played hard/hurt and mostly at an elite level since we drafted him.  He has gone through regime changes, losing, different schemes, and (in my eyes) has handled everything as well as any elite player would/could.  To my knowledge, he has had no attitude issues and no locker room drama.

Our organization is the laughing stock of the NFL.  Our owner sucks.  Our GM has a booze beak.  Our field is dog ****.  Our coaches are subpar on a good day.  Not a big jump to think our doctors might be trash heap worthy as well.

I believe Trent.  I just hope we can work things out.

Dont get me wrong, I have no idea about what concerns there are about any specific people or situations that would relate to the quality of the medical care that players are getting.  I don't even know if Redskin players have higher or lower satisfaction with their team doctors than players on other teams have.  My point is that, if there is widespread concern from the players about how the team doctors diagnose, treat, or communicate medical issues; then the team should take steps to address those issues.  And, I think the best message from the team would be that the team considers those issues to be important to them.

If the players are reasonably satisfied with their care, and all of this is a contract ploy from Trent, then finding a trade partner may be the best move.
