I cant think of a better option then giving him what he wants.  You wont get anyone that belongs at LT this late in the offseason, just do what you can to keep him.  Dude has a shotgun pointed at our balls, but that's our own fault.  I'm going to be so pissed if hes serious about never wanting to come back, we look like an even worse organization then we already do if thats true. Brutal.

Do you think the redskins are a contender this year? To even just make the playoffs? I don’t... i don’t see why you’d pay a guy that’s going to be out of the league in a few years anyway when one of his years is going to be wasted on a bad team.... get value for him and tell keenan to get out there and break a leg... if we get pleasantly suprised that’s nice, if not, we got ammunition for next year....

Trent wants more money. Simple as that.

Send him him to the Vikings. Throw in Doctson and we'll have Reiff and Diggs in return.

I'll be the salmon swimming upstream.

He wants to feel like he can trust the team.   With his contract NOT guaranteed, and NOT trusting the doctors, he feels he has more than enough reason to not report. If he developed a terminal illness and had to quit the game, he would get no money from the team, right?

Trent wants guaranteed money if he is going to report to the same team "you're fine you can play" "doctors" as last year.  Double air quotes.

I am sticking to my guns, this is not about adding an extra 2M non guaranteed money to his potential salary. Any money on top of what he is already set to earn is just Bruce bent over a barrel in desperation mode, throwing Dan's money at his problems, in a feeble attempt to make up for the teams doctors failing him last year.

This is sad and without a LT. Don't expect much out of this offense. Glad the team spent Millions of dollars on a Safety instead of adding depth at more important positions.

Disagree...with that safety and our D we WILL control field position. We need to play like the Ravens did with Dilfer. We RUN the ball. Even Flowers at LT can run block. I would rather go 0-16 than pay extortion money. Setup for next year and set a precedent for this renegotiation crap when a player has NOT been productive "recently". This getting paid by the skins has to stop. Loose BIG and have another GREAT draft and get rid of *some* aged talent. Think Belichick.

Don't trade for less than a 2nd and a player..otherwise let him sit out.

Unless I'm grossly mistaken, no NFL team carries an oncologist on its medical staff.  Why would he ever be mad at the medical staff, unless he asked them about the mass/bump and they said it was no biggy and then he later found out that it was a benign tumor?  Then again, you're ultimately responsible for your own health, go to a dermatologist if you are concerned.....

Yes, I understand teams don't keep oncologists on staff but the medical staff has access to oncologists just as your primary care physician would refer you to one if you had an issue.

My whole point was that it doesn't add up unless as you stated "the team told him it was no biggy", but it really was and he needed to follow up with a specialist.

As for him being responsible for figuring out his medical care, I somewhat agree.  The players are constantly around team doctors so they probably rely on these doctors to protect them.  Maybe that's a false sense of protection but why wouldn't the team doctors protect the players?  Would they really just remove the mass and say F it, it's not my job to worry about tumors I'm here for football related injuries?

I agree...if it can get resolved without spending additional money (meaning if it's truly frustration and gestures or words would matter), then fine. Otherwise, I'd use this as a catalyst to unload Williams (and other veterans, quite honestly) for either picks or younger players under more team control. This could be the final touches of the youth movement that's been going on.

As great as Williams and Kerrigan have been, if you can flip them for guys who are a part of the future, I would do it. Write off 2019 as a transition year and 2020 as Haskins' development year.

This is a playoff team with a healthy oline and Haskins starting, so knows I dont want to see that whole thing come crashing down because we cant protect him.  If I'm not mistake, one of the rumors of what would work would include stretching to a third year and giving him some guaranteed money.  How much of this you think comes back to we can cut him at any time now even after that health scare?

Can you get a contender to part with a 1st rounder? That's the question for me. If so, its a no brainer. Draft his replacement.

Given that, I wouldn't let Haskins see the field this year or maybe a few games in the end with max protect looks. The Skins have drafted depth over the past coulee years, hopefully some of these players develop. Moses/Scherff/Roullier are all functional. Martin/Piersbacher/Christian have development potential and if even 1 sticks and produces that's a win.

I would draft OL in 1st next year, usually a high hit %. Probably go 2nd or 3rd round as well depending on progress of aforementioned projects.

TW is banged up and this approach was unprofessional IMO. His silence around the matter at this stage is poor form. If it's about money, state that. If its about medical concerns that should be addressed in separate forum and not affect his role in organization.

Saw something on twitter that the team is taking the attitude that they’ll see Trent tonight...what could that be about?

Failing to show for work isn't how you go about asking someone to prove trust. He also won't get paid if he holds out into the season. We really don't know what the team told him about his health, only what Chris Russell says and he's roughly as accurate as a blind dude throwing darts. 90% of the time he's a professional pot stirrer. If TW developed a terinal illness, do you really think the team would leave him hanging? Seriously?

This is about money. I'd put my next six months of paychecks on it, if we could get a fly on the wall in those offices, and that this growth isn't even on the radar except in social media gossip circles. He wants a last payday, knows he's on back-9 and won't exactly be healthier, in terms of body.

If he doesnt show Just trade him and be done with it. We would be looking for his replacement next year anyways. We need guys that want to be here. I am sick of these rich athletes signing a contract and not honoring it. Yes. The team can cut you at any point and not honor the contract. But that is the way it was negotiated in the CBA. Which YOU ALSO AGREED TOO. You signed your name. Either honor your word or be gone.

Having doctors sending out stitched up zombies to play football isn't how an employer shows good faith trust to their employees, but here we are.  Concussion protocol was enacted for a reason, because doctors were failing the players.  So it shouldn't surprise anyone when the zombies say enough is enough. He may simply want guaranteed money but no more than he is set to already make. Is it then, really about money? No, it's the Kirk issue all over again.  Non guaranteed contracts are contracts only for the team.  Lev Bell last year... more are already threatening this year - Clowney, Gould, Gordon... The players have had enough, probably including their incompetent agents.   If you don't see the writing on the wall, wait for ALL the players to sit in 2021.

He may no longer trust the doctors, and be offered more money as insurance of sorts against them.  If true, was money the core issue? No, its not. Moar money was just the only solution Bruce could offer. Like a court settlement that is all the rage here in the land of a zillion lawyers.

You can call bunk on Russell or the growth but when there is smoke there is fire.

The difference with Russell is he gathers the leaves, pours the gas and ignites it 90% of the time. It's like the boy who cried "wolf"

You're arguing from the particular to the general. If the problem is with the CBA and other players have issue, then it's not a Redskins-centric problem. He had no issue with non-guaranteed salary when he and his agent worked it out initially. This is about money. Now his body is starting to break down and he knows he only has a few years of big bucks left. He could also be one puff puff away from another suspension. What good does it do to sit, whether for a few weeks or an entire season, when you get paid zero to do so? You want to argue guaranteed dollars, but the only absolute is you get paid stugots for sitting.

I'd still bet my next several paychecks that the whole medical issue is a strawman constructed and propped by social media types.

Maybe, but I kind of doubt it.  Trent gets $11M guaranteed just by showing up on the 53 for the Eagles game because he's a vested veteran.  He doesn't even need to be activated for the game.  There's a tiny chance that something could happen during the year that would get him cut before the start of the 2020 season, but it's really tiny.  There aren't likely to be any Ts with his ability available as FAs and, if there were, the Skins would be competing with 20 other teams.  So, most of his salary is effectively already guaranteed.

I think he's PO'd at someone and he's going to make them sweat.  And, at his age, the thrill of training camp is probably a bygone memory.  For sure, he's there for the first game though.

For some reason, I have a picture in my head of TW, BA, and DS sitting around a screen, looking at this thread, laughing and plotting what other seemingly innocent things or statements they can do to make ES and the media lose their minds

He'll show up eventually.

He's just a veteran starting to see the benefit of skipping camp but when the thought of losing over ten million dollars by playing hookie starts to become more real he'll show up.

The drawback is maybe he'll be a little out of shape but the positives are that he won't get injured pre season and we get a better look at what we have behind him.

I'm not too worried yet.

Adding Collins didn't make this a top 5 defense. We'll be lucky to be in the top 10. Still a bunch a holes on the defense. Spending that type of money at one position is stupid. Especially if it isn't a QB or linemen.

Maybe the amount of money the Skins dished out to Collins could be part of the reason Trent is upset... maybe the Skins could have gone cheaper and spread the money to Trent.

I doubt he's mad about it, buy it does leave the Skins with little to no money to extend anyone on the team.

That's sad too...as far as Trent William's goes..I really have enjoyed watching the offensive line of the Redskins since I started watching Redskins football in the early eighties(obviously dont remember as much as of recent)so I appreciated seeing Chris Samuels  extended contract after contract..same as Jon Janson,The red snapper, and a few other o linemen I can't think of off the top of my head...Trent is another I want to see retire a skin...has getting long in the tooth and if he was traded away before week 1 my heart should shatter..but if we gained(good enough)value for the future than I'd be    ok with it.

This is one of the most foolish things Ive ever seen posted on here, and thats saying a lot.

Im guessing those next 6 months of paychecks wont be worth much.

They'd be worth a lot to me. I really believe it's about money, a final payday and not some beef with the medical staff. He'll be here at some point, even if no other deal is worked out.

Redskins just released Mason Foster, freeing up 4m in cap space, maybe going towards Trent or even Sherff.

You sound like the gambling type... preseason will be here soon!

It's America, I get it. Getting as much money as possible is taught to us in CPTLSM 101 and so we expect the same from everyone. But not all us birds have the same color feathers.  Hippies for one always seems damn happy as long as they had a ticket to their next show.

Trent's current net worth is 95M less his life / entertainment expenses.  He is not hurting if he walks away today, short of investing all that money in real estate no one wants.

I think getting a true terminal illness scare has caused some/many to reconsider priorities in life e.g. i neeeeeeeed mo money.
