The GOP usual suspects are backing themselves into the "Unless Trump personally told someone that he ordered the hold on the military aid unless the Bidens were investigated, then we can't listen to anything they say" defense.   That is pretty much where they are headed.  What's better is in a few weeks there will probably be witnesses that did have first hand accounts and heard the actual directives coming from Trump, which will mean finally the GOP.............still won't care.

"But did Trump specifically state that Ukraine must investigate the Bidens because it would help him personally?"

"Was Trump under oath when he confessed to this crime?"

Yeah... and then the Senate will "acquit" him.

"Complete exoneration".

The term "Never Trumper" is dumb to begin with. He isn't a life-long politician who has endured a career of his own party being split about him.

He can't resign.  He is banking on winning a second term in hopes it will make some of his crimes extend over a statute of limitations. As it stands now if he loses in 2020 he can be prosecuted.

On that topic, there has been discussion if the statute of limitations should be extended by the same amount of time the person is supposedly "immune from all prosecution"

There's the possibility of indicting him using a legal anonymous alias, then the statute of limitations won't matter. He already has one.
