Shaun Dion Hamilton is in a position to break out in wake of Reuben Foster's injury

Enter Shaun Dion Hamilton – Washington’s sixth-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft. Dion Hamilton saw action in six games his rookie season but struggled to find his footing, earning a 58.2 overall grade.

Throughout the draft process, PFF was cautious regarding Dion Hamilton’s ability to stay on the field. In 2016, he tore his right ACL during the SEC Championship, which caused him to miss the remainder of that postseason. The following year, he broke his right kneecap in early November. These injuries may have caused the Alabama linebacker’s draft stock to fall, but when Dion Hamilton was on the field, he was one of the best at his position.

In 2016, Dion Hamilton maintained the lowest passer rating when targeted (53.9) and secured the most stops (31) among SEC linebackers.

In his first glimpse of NFL action, Dion Hamilton made a splash in the 2018 NFL preseason, as he hit the opposing running back in the backfield a total of 10 times in his four preseason games, which was more than any other defensive player in the NFL.

The breakout potential exists for the 23-year-old linebacker if he can stay on the field. In 2018, Dion Hamilton was efficient with his minuscule sample size. Among all NFL linebackers in 2018, he earned an 86.8 pass-rush grade which tied for fourth in the league, and he secured an 84.2 tackling grade to boot.

The linebacker will be playing behind fellow ‘Bama alums Jonathan Allen and Da’Ron Payne, who will make Dion Hamilton’s life easier as they pair both earned 70.0-plus grades in 2018. But in the wake of Foster’s injury, Dion Hamilton is going to get the opportunity to prove himself as a starting NFL linebacker, and the Redskins need him to rise to the challenge.

Not sure if he's been mentioned in this thread but Manti Teo might be someone to consider

Here's him stuffing y'all back in 2017 🙂   Clutch play because if the Skins converted they would have won the game.

Anyone else feel this recommendation is a bit... fishy?

Hopefully, if he's the guy, he lands here on his feet... you know, like a cat.

So we need to count on an injury prone Hamilton and good luck with him playing 16 games. While Foster's injury was caused by stepping on another players foot, there seems to be something terribly wrong with the Redskins strength and conditioning programs.  2 straight years of season ending injuries that more than double other teams averages.  How many feet get stepped on during the year by all the teams and yet we lose a vital player on the 2nd play of OTA's.  This is the start of the 3rd year of disastrous injuries and something has got to change immediately before the year is blown before the season even starts.  We are definitely doing something wrong and it has not gotten better. Our players are not in physical shape to withstand stepping on someone's foot and falling.  Enough is enough with this staff and its strength and conditioning program as our players continue to get serious injuries even without hard contact yet.  Overworked and pushed too fast or underworked, something is not right. I'm not an expert, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this is not just bad luck or bad breaks....not with just about half the team on season ending injuries for 2 years in a row and starting off like this again. Just my humble opinion.

Slowest front 7 in NFL

Watching the  Saints and Falcons games, 2nd Giants game, I would 100% agree with you. We need some speed at ILB badly. Mason Foster isn't even a backup. They signed him off the street when Scot was here. The fact that he's still on the team starting is a joke.

You ever read a post and take a double look to make sure it wasn't written by you ? Thank you you are spot on and I agree 100% !

One other thing to consider, could it be we are constantly swinging for the fence with High risk High Reward type players who ALL have history of injury or just plain "history" . We seem lately to be in the buy cheap sell high mode mentality .

Add in that Dion Hamilton is completely unproven and it's fair to say he's our guy!

1-2 years from now (depending on when everyone is fired) we'll probably find out that they don't do any stretching at all before drills or practice.

If anybody is at training camp this year in Richmond, be sure to remind them.   :)

That's actually a common practice presently due to static stretching stressing the CNS.

Dynamic warmup is the new approach.

Hey did anyone happen to read that douchey article in the Washington post a few days ago where the writer actually implies the Redskins and Rueben Foster deserved this injury as some sort of Cosmic Karma because of Foster's past mistakes. What a jerk.

I wouldn't expect anything less from that piece of trash "news" organization.

That's completely normal assessment to check distal pulses, nothing note-worthy there.

When can we trade for Jason Taylor?

We drafted Sweat. He'll wipe his sweat with Jason Taylors jacket.

I'm no medical expert by any means, but that's similar to my immediate reaction, in that it could be SOP, simply in order to improve circulation throughout the injured leg, and provide some small degree of relief, as shoes and socks can slow down circulation, if I'm not mistaken.

Unfortunately, gutter-level sniping is all the Washington (Com)Post is good for when it comes to the Redskins.
