As in she is everything bad about everything. Socialism/communism/cancel culture/high taxes/abortion/gun rights/Anti-Freedom/Anti-American = AOC

I'd find that more understandable if someone actually pointed to legislation/votes she had made. Otherwise it's hyperbole and can be used by the Trump party against nearly every Democrat.

The things I said were my OPINIONS that were formed from working and living in Ocean County NJ. for almost 50 years. There is no right or wrong, just someone's opinion, no stats for that.  Oh and by the way, guys that work on RE know prices of homes in their area as we are always looking for a house to buy and fix and turn over. Hard to do in my area as the margins are slim as most of the time you just make your wages after all the work and buying and selling.   I do not need to look up stats when I see homes sell in my neighborhood within a week of seeing the sign get posted on the lawn when I have lived here and keep abreast of sales for almost 50years. Habit when you and  your wife are in RE. Have friends working and managing real estate offices and we talk about sales all the time. Thought of getting my RE license and selling for something to do but I am retired and and lazy now. Just like puttering around and keeping my own crap working. Boats, MCs, family's houses etc. We spend half our time in Florida where I have some property and I have seen a lot more building in the last 2 years than I have seen in the 8 years before that. Again, my opinion and just in area around No Hutchinson Island so don't bother with the Vero Beach stats. Pointing out a stat for how crime has increased in AC means little as the areas around the casinos are secure and that is where everyone goes. Like saying the crime in the Bronx is bad so stay out of Manhatten.

Anyway, the question was why does AOC seem to trigger such a maddog reflex in the right?

 

There are many women in politics, many smart women, many outspoken women that don't have this effect.

 

IMO the thing that bunches their panties so is that she is so utterly confident, self-assured and battle tested as a bartender that she shows zero deference to any of them. They keep expecting her to be impressed by daddy's money or their titles or their "status" and she just gives zero ****s, rolls on by as if they were invisible. And they have no leverage on her, she didn't sell her soul to a corporation to win the seat.

Just on a micro/local level she comes up in our conversations. Here in Delawhere? we have a total of three members of Congress, two senators and a single House rep. Our rep is Lisa Blunt Rochester, a young WoC who was "chosen" by the local machine and is basically beholden to her handlers. Never hear from or about her unless it is fund raising. Seems like a genuinely likable young woman but is invisible. We talk about AOC or Tlaib or Pressley and wonder how it is that our rep doesn't see the opportunity and seize it, to speak out, to act. There has never been a better time for it, and in our opinion if we only get one we want that one to count somewhere. 

 

When I hear people snark about AOC et. al. being too outspoken, too passionate, to headstrong and intense, I roll my eyes about 3000 rpm.

I believe the Fox News Cinematic Universe is going crazy because Obama released his first list of endorsements and AOC isn't on it.  By my reading, Obama only endorsed people in competitive races, but yea, it probably also means Obama hates AOC.

I dont blame AOC for nominating Bernie instead of Biden.

 

I intentionally didn't watch convention to pretend to have a life and feeling I wasn't going to hear anything new.  I want to see Michelle, Kasich, and AOC speech and maybe that's it on YouTube. 

 

Fine, removing Trump is the priority, accepted. Then what specificly policy wise? Has the 7/21 party platform draft been finalized yet?

 

AOC is setting up for "then what" in a world where GOP is supposed to be getting decimated.  She has to get out of that party before they catch on how serious she is.

AOC only spoke for a minute. She’s the natural heir to Bernie.

 

Even if they disagree with her, she should’ve been given a regular speaking slot of at least 5 minutes. Progressives love her and if they are pissed election time; they may just stay home or not mail anything in.

100% agree, another reason I keep saying she needs to run as an Independent so she doesn't have to pretend to be anything other then what she is and what she wants to stand for.  The DNC is not there yet, might not ever be.

A senator got the same exact minute for seconding Joe Biden.  I thought she did well. She has a great future if she wants to stay in politics. I'd vote for her if I was still alive. She really impresses me every time she speaks on the floor of the House or in committee hearings. Her questions are pointed. She is super intelligent. She'll make her way within the party and be more successful than Bernie Sanders. I can't wait to see what she does!

You have to wonder if shes making the same mistake Bernie made though. I say that to mean, you have to be successful in a system to have enough power to change it without destroying it. Dems feared Bernie would destroy it so they did what they could to keep him from having any kind of power over it. I could see the same thing happening with her if she doesn't learn from that example. There comes a point where being immovable on your ideals becomes a barrier in your effort to further them.

This is 100% correct. If she is going to move up the ranks in the Democratic Party, she will have to be a bit more moderate at times and understand that one has to build consensus to get things done. Certainly if she becomes an independent she will have no power at all.

AOC and Katie Porter are the leadership foundation of the party moving forward. There are other but these two are so bright and understand the long picture which being able to focus on the now too. I would vote for either right now. Once they get past some of these long time corporate lacky dems, they will be able to form real change for this country. 

 

I love how AOC lives in republicans minds. Whatever she does it drives them crazy. I like her politics for the most part anyway. But her driving republicans nuts is a huge bonus.

She's young.  She'll learn the give and take of politics while holding on to her ideals.
