I can't get behind Earl Thomas.

He's always been a bit undersized (5'10, 200 lbs), but his strength is flying around and showing incredible range for a FS. He's had leg injuries the past 3 years and will be turning 30. Players in that mold either keep breaking down or become a step slow and just can't make the plays they used too. He's going to be in the Collins/Honey Badger type contract range and there's too much guaranteed money needed to bring him in.

Oh I agree with you. Just posting what I could see this FO thinking if they really think they're "close" to something.

Going through the FA list at guard just now, remaining options look pretty weak.  They've gone two years in a row with a hole at LG with questionable interior depth.   My guess is this time they draft a LG high in the draft but thought the same last year.  Will see.

I'd hate to feel backed into a corner and force a certain position, where you can be forced to burn an early draft pick on a reach, but how disappointing will it be if we enter next season without seriously addressing LG.

Yeah. Imagine having that much money locked up in Collins, Thomas and Norman? We'd be paying $45-50M a season. Everytime a team passes for 300+ yards on us people would lose their minds.

Yep,  Agree.    Sort of what happened last year and they explained later they intended to draft a guard but the board didn't work out that way.

I was just visiting a Cowboys board and i must say they have some of the dumbest fans that i have ever heard talk about football..they are such a jealous fan base and bash every signing that every other team makes,by commenting how much a team over paid.. Yet Jerry the idiot is getting ready to dish out huge contracts to Dak and Lawrence and they will applaud it...lol

Funny. I just read through the entire thread there on the Collins signing. They did the usual overpay bash, IE the Redskins overspend every year. Which shows just how uneducated those morons really are. Once the tweet came up about how the contract is structured and the salary cap hits there are maybe 5 more posts after that. they shut up REAL QUICK.  Every single person that posted in that thread looks like an asshat. It is pure gold.

WOW! Scherff's extension just got incredibly expensive.

Hes got to be getting Zack Martin money, 6/80mil plus easily.

They must be in on other players, why else would you make Collins cap figure 4m for 2019?.

HTTR

Mosley was clearly on the list. Mostly sifted through now, unless we have a late swoop for Bell.

more likely it's AP, Haha plus the WR Williams.

Skins OL is in danger of taking a large step to the downside with all the unknowns in rehab, LG hole, and losing their swing tackle.

Time for the Skins to address the OL or they're going to screw up any chance at Guice being significant.

In a receiver starved FA but good to get him out of the NFCE.

Fortunately LG is deep enough that a reach should be easy to avoid in the first two rounds. There are 2-3 players (if you consider Tackles capable of playing guard as well - ie Smith) that you could legitimately pick at pick 15 without being a reach.

Difficult to address this in FA though as the options available really are not better than what we have.  OL has been by far the most overpaid position group in FA in recent times.  Have to believe we look to address this with a couple of our higher draft picks, I am definitely on board with trading back in the first round if we can get another day 2 pick as there is a lot of value there in the 2nd and 3rd round this year.

Doubt they can manage it with that $21m cap hit for Brown on the books this year, I would imagine the Browns are the most likely as they still have plenty of cap room and picks to be aggressive, also Landry is there and is really close with OBJ.

I went Beckham gone.  They've quietly been rebuilding their O line, their interior right now is arguably better than ours.    Their weapons way better than ours.   Eli is holding them back otherwise their offense could be killer.  Removing Beckham out of that equation would be a really good thing.  😀

While I'm confident that one of Lindstrom / risner / mcogvern etc are there in the 2nd, I was also confident we would have had better options with our second in last year's draft and interior linemen were flying off the board.

At this point, I'd like to see what it would take to sign AJ cann.  He has a lot of starting experience, and although he is not top caliber, maybe we can get him on an affordable short term deal.  I'd rather have him as a stopgap over oft injured vets like Lang, levitre or iupati.  Bc if/when they go down, we are back to square one.  And I'm not sure I trust Arie or Dunn to perform well enough there.  Problem with cann is he has been durable and is only 27.  He could command more than we wish to offer.

Fingers crossed that need meets BPA for the skins for a second round guard.

Me too and maybe a haul of picks for him which isn't that great.

i'm in agreement here... anything that gets us not having to play against Bechkham twice a year for the next several years is a WIN ...

If the Skins are content with Keenum at QB for this season they may just go OL in rounds one and two. Draft your QB next year when the draft is stronger at the position and have him come into a solid young OL. Just a thought.

AP and Collins just might have to fight over it, if the skins are able to re-sign him
