indyskinsfan
Well Pete O'Brien of the USA Today has stated his "reasoning" for an entire Redskins football TEAM to lose to SD. Somebody tell him that although Norval teams can collapse with just one person gone, this is NO LONGER his team. Oh and somebody please explain this to Mr. O'Brien (which will be to no avail ) Maybe Marty can post this by Jeff's locker? O"BRIEN states: "Washington (plus 2 1/2) at San Diego For this game, look no further than the two quarterbacks. Flutie: scrappy, intense, fearless, dedicated, ultracompetitive. George: wussy, baby, quitter. SU: Chargers ATS: Chargers" wow, somehow we can't play special teams or run, or play defense or kick or coach??? Sounds more like the guy in SD
Stricknine
On Hard Knocks tonight the Inside the NFL gang took over the last 20 minutes. All 5 of them predicted that the Chargers would win. Man, I hope we win, just so I can see the egg all over the so called "experts'" faces. ------------------ Randy Redskin Fan for Life
NavyDave
Just bring the intensity with you to San Diego and quiet the crowd(?) sowe can email the experts at HBO and USA today ------------------ Take a sip of the Marty Kool Aid and Believe
Terry
O'Brien could also add: Flutie: career 54% completion rate, 77.7 QB rating, 3.2% interception ratio. George, career 58% completion rate, 80.9 QB rating, 2.8% interception ratio. If they were linebackers, maybe I'd worry that George isn't more 'scrappy' (although surviving a career 352 sacks seems to belie that). But in the QB dept., I'll take my chances with George. hailredskinscom
It is your typical hate the Redskins mode since Snyder purchased the team. I read that last night as well and took it with a grain of salt. Obviously between Snyder as owner and George as QB, we are such a loved team. ------------------ Please visit my new Skins site, Mark's Redskins Net. Chris 44
I think Jeffs outing against New England last week, having the crap beat out of him in a pre season game speaks to where his mind is at right now. He hardly seemed a wussy, a baby or a quitter. Looked like a competitor to me.
bulldog
This won't be an easy game for the Redskins to win, but not because Flutie at 38 is such a great quarterback at this stage of his career. The San Diego front seven is strong, and that puts the Skins offense in the position of facing the opposition's best with a line that has had few if any reps together in the preseason. There will be breakdowns in blocking for the run and pass in this game. The key will be NOT to turn over the ball and to capitalize on mistakes that the Chargers make. The Chargers are a new team with a lot of new people as well. I expect Tomlinson to be vulnerable to being stripped of the ball in this game as he missed all of camp and most of the preseason. In other words, few live hits......... Graham and Conway to me are players past their primes. I don't expect either to be that big of a factor in the game against our corners. The key to preventing Freddie Jones from beating us down the seam is for the line to get enough pressure on Flutie with the 4 down lineman and Arrington that Norv is forced to keep Jones in to block. MikeB
I find it interesting that each year we belittle the pros opinions and dismiss them as anti-Redskins sentiment that we claim runs rampant throughout the media. Are they crazy... or are we crazy...? Who sees the truth?
Larry
MikeB, Don't know why, but I';m reminded of a song I heard once. Some folk-style singer was doing a story in which he is pulled over for DUI. The cop askes him (tune from "Blowing in the Wind": "How many whiskeys have you had tonight? How many have you consumed? The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind. We'll know when you blow up this baloon. We'll know a lot more Sunday afternoon.
@DCGoldPants
Mike, just look at the "experts" records over the past 2 years. Its awful. 2 years ago we were a predicted 3 win team, we took 10. Last year it was Superbowl time and we took 8. Nobody picked the Rams in 99 and maybe one person went with Baltimore and NY last year. The past its been Tampa Tampa Tampa, Indy Indy Indy and neither have done jack jack jack! This might be Indy's year, not Tampa's though. ------------------ for all those who are having fits! markrc99
defensively,as i've stated before,i can't see us allowing san diego or anyone else to isolate sam shade down the field..some of what we can do is: shade can make sure everything happens in front of him,or more blitz pkgs,or more zone..we can roll shade into the short zone and run that 4 across others teams do..leaving bailey, smoot & terrell to man anything coming over the top.. the best way,is to hide shade a little more..we can flop him w/terrell and roll him from the weakside, much like what tampa does w/lynch..but i feel alot of that would depend on how far along terrell is..hey,san diego may not be able to get us to squeeze down inside..but our OLBs may have to go inside out..same with our CBs..w/flutie i wouldn't be surprised if our CBs overplayed to the inside, play rtes to break and trail the breaks to the outside if anywhere.. w/flutie you have to eliminate run lanes, pass lanes and open rec'rs in the middle of the field..of course,he's a problem outside too..besides a passrush, we need better containment and range from the DL..force timing, force those WRS to shake our dbs and force him to complete out rtes!!..we can take these guys offensively, the skins skill position players in the backfield don't possess enough speed or elusiveness to offset interior breakdowns..we can't let that happen..if we're that susceptible up front i don't see marty taking too many chances..i think we'll try to establish SD and utilize our rec'rs size advantage..slants,hooks&curls..should be a good game, hail the skins.. bulldog
As I posted above Mark, the way to neutralize Jones or the back coming out is to present a 4 man rush that can get pressure on the quarterback. Add Arrington to that scenario as a blitzer from both outside and inside and you have a formula that could work to make Turner keep Jones in to block on critical possessions. the best defense for a secondary is a pass rush that prevents the qb from releasing the ball when he wants to. If Flutie gets 4 or 5 seconds to check down his options it is going to be a long afternoon out there even with Champ, Fred and Darrell back there. Zen-like Todd
With Flutie, you have two things that play together. One, he's mobile (duh), so disciplined pass rushers are a must, just stay in your damn lanes. Two, he's a midget (but taller than me), so again, stay in your damn lanes, and stick up your hands. Kenard gets at least 2 pass defenses to his credit this weekend.
fish
That's the key - Batting down passes and staying in their lanes. We haven't seen ANY pass rush all pre-season and I don't expect too much Sunday. Yes I know Bruce wasn't there and Yes I know the SD line is supposedly WEAK. Still, I don't see us getting much pressure with the D-line alone. Now we start blitzing either Barber or Arrington and that all changes! ------------------ HAIL
