All joking aside, it's interesting to see how players have been evaluated in light of advanced metrics and stats, and how the overall game has changed so much. Ryan pitched almost 700 IP in 1973 - 1974. Most pitchers today get that in 3-4 years.

Think about this.  Max has the most career strikeouts of any active pitcher in the game, and is currently 18th all time. If, starting in 2022, he notches 215 strikeouts per season (his career average) until he is 48 years old he would STILL not overtake Nolan Ryan's 5714 Ks on the all time list.

I am not arguing Ryan is the best pitcher.  But he is the unquestioned Strikeout King by a crazy wide margin.

Baseball has the most unbreakable records in all of sports:

Cy Young's 511 Wins

Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak

Ripken's 2,632 consecutive games

Ryan's 8 No-hitters

Bonds 762 HRs*

Clemens 7 CYAs*

Ryan's 5,714 strikeouts.

Ryan's strikeout record is so far out of reach, it's unbelievable.

I'd also add Rickey Henderson's stolen bases to that list, too.

Way-too-early Mock Draft has us taking Elijah Green:

Quote

5. Nationals: Elijah Green, OF, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)
No player in this Draft has a higher ceiling than Green, who would have been a top-10 choice in 2021 if rumors that he might reclassify had proven true. He has well above-average raw power and speed and he's a quality center fielder with a strong arm, but some swing-and-miss issues give teams a bit of pause.

I'm sorry I missed the convo on unbreakable baseball records.

Nolan Ryan is an unbreakable record machine.

5714 strikeouts.  #2 is 4875.

2795 walks.  #2 has 1833

757 stolen bases allowed.  #2 allowed 547

292 losses.  #2 is 279 and belongs to Walter Johnson who pitched in a completely different era.

37 zero, 1 or 2 hitters.  #2 is 25, also Walter Johnson.

I must have skipped right past this post.

Wanted to add: Walter Johnson holds the career record for most shutouts at 110. That's 34 more than Cy Young who pitched 1,500+ more innings (~116 more games) than WJ.
