But it’s still millions or tens of millions of dollars, that an athlete will have *one* chance in their lifetime to earn. So they should take the best offer, unless there is a compelling reason to take a (slightly) lower offer. I get why SD is cool and all (year round perfect weather, fish tacos, etc)....but CA has the highest top tier tax rate in the country. If he's chasing money, I feel like that has to be taken into consideration.

I didn’t say I thought SD was necessarily the favorite, just that it would be an appealing location for him (money aside).
@DCGoldPants
That would be a huge get for San Diego. They have a great city, an answer park. Just need that face of the franchise. That said, I still hope this is Boras trying to shake the trees for one last check for a monster offer before coming back to DC and working it out. Warhead36
I can't imagine the Padres being able to match 10 years and $300 Mil.

I genuinely wonder if that is still on the table after Corbin, etc signings. I know people said that was independent of Harper, but Nats sure made a successful run at a premium FA right after Harper declined their offer. Warhead36
Its not worth it going for big FA Closers. Its way too volatile of a position. You're better off just throwing talented young arms until you hit on one or just trading for whoever the hot hand is every year as relievers tend to come very cheap. Last year showed a couple underperformers plus an injury will sink them. I could see them being involved to an extent... probably not going to match his top suitors though. bcl05
Ugh. I hate Kimbrel with an irrational passion. HIs stupid pre-pitch posturing drives me nuts. Ironically, I love Doolittle.
PleaseBlitz
I don't have any issues with Kimbrel, he's really good and all, but the Nats don't need him.
StillUnknown
Kimbrel is luxury at this point, but if the deal was for 1-2yrs and doolittle was cool with it, i'd be down to sign him. Making games shorter is always a good thing, especially late in the season
Popeman38
Heyman is just reporting that the Nats, like always, will be in on veteran relievers when the market falls for them. Not specifically Kimbrel, just in general. Rizzo does a good job snagging veteran relievers for cheap close to start of ST.

His dad’s best memory happened at Nats park. Im drunk and hopeful. Gonna watch this and bourbon Edited February 2, 2019 by PleaseBlitz
just654
Beside Werth’s game 4 walk off that was the most fun I have ever had at Nats Park. I really hope he comes back. The longer this draws out I think the better for the Nats
ixcuincle
So Nats Park is going to ban backpacks in 2019. I know a few people comin' from work and need their backpacks which have they laptop and all.

Thought about this for Wizards games, I know I can leave mine in the SOC or my managers desk and no one will mess with it. Kinda was thinking they should do something like lockers, but then if it was something they were worried about, it'd already be in the stadium. You got an idea for yours if you plan to go straight there? I don't have to because I work at Union Station and live at Huntington, could get home and back, but would be safer leaving an extra hour early and just seems rediculous to have to do that for anyone, let alone drive home, F that. Warhead36
Kinda crazy how we're in February and he's still unsigned. At this point he might just return on a 1 year deal... "vet min plus incentives" LOL

Maybe he takes a discount to come back and be the #
skinfan2k
This is baseball's fault. This will happen more and more. Arbitration forces athletes to only try for 1 contract. The great thing about football, you can technically get 2 big deals in your career. Baseball you can really test the market only once.
