The Washington Nationals Thread: The Future is Near!

Davey gonna keep trotting Difo out there until Turner is back. Difo is the reason the team has to get at least 28 outs each game.  It's ludicrous. MAT and Difo should be either traded for a ham sammich or DFA'd in the hope someone calls. 2-15(?) in the opening game of a series? That HAS to have some correlation to what is being done day in and day out.

FIRE HIM. At this point, what is there to lose?

I mean... they tried to not use Difo because they knew he was hurting them. Kieboom was significantly worse on defense and also worse at the plate. I don’t believe there’s another option at SS in our farm system, on our bench, or who is a FA who would be any better than Difo for the next two weeks until Turner returns.

Can we have this Nationals team for awhile please?

the one good thing going for us this season is that MadMax/Stras/Corbin have been as good as we hoped. They'll have to make decisions in the near future on Sanchez & Hellickson because they are pitching far below league average at the moment. No easy answers there as you don't want to yo-yo Fedde/Ross in and out of the rotation, especially as Fedde seems to be settling in to a nice role in the pen.

I wouldn't mind seeing them flirt with an “opener” every fourth or fifth day... “start” Fedde or Joe Ross and then bring in Hellickson or Sanchez after two or three innings. Couldn’t hurt.

It it would be a shame to waste the efforts of Max/Stras/Corbin on a lost season.

Lineup is about to get deeper, and defense better, when Turner returns.

Look, the start of this season has been a perfect storm for the Nats. Bullpen came in and performed miserably to start the year. That has since improved to a degree. There have been numerous key injuries. And all this has taken place during a time when the Nats are facing their toughest part of their schedule the entire season. It's significantly front-loaded, with far more frequent series against poor teams during the latter half of the year.

Look who we've played recently while struggling... Rockies, Padres, Cards, Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers. That is a tough stretch even for a team that is playing well.

Who do we have coming up? After the Cubs, 8 straight games against the Mets and the Marlins. Then some games against mid-tier teams, some crucial games against Atlanta and Philly in mid June, and then the first half ends with 12 straight games against the Marlins, Tigers, and Royals. They need to be around .500 at this point.

So we'll know in the next month who the Nats are and if they have a legit shot to come back from this horrific start. On paper they do. Get healthy, maybe swap Fedde into the rotation for Hellickson, maybe add a bullpen arm or two via trade, and then just get your guys performing at their career levels.

The Dodgers came back from similar circumstances

hopefully Nats can too but the issue is they've been inconsistent. They win a game then lose a few more than win another one. That is just like Sisyphus. Make some progress then the stone come falling down.
