I actually agree with Lindsey Graham.

Really? Cause I was going to say, “**** Lindsey Graham”.

This is a new low in American politics? Let’s look at the Lindsey chart...

Defending Nazis, ripping children from their parents, lying for 8 years about Obama being a Kenyan, calling a porn star that you barebacked while your wife was home breastfeeding “horse face”, saying POWs aren’t heroes, helping to cover up a murder, threatening to jail your political opponents, the president of the United States standing up in front of the world and saying that the country who attacked us didn’t attack us because he wants to build a hotel there (and possibly there’s a pee tape).

⬇️

⬇️

⬇️

Not inviting the piece of **** to spout his bull**** while he’s holding the government hostage for his stupid ****ing wall that he promised we weren’t going to have to pay for.

"Trump's proposal" (after being made even better by Senate Republicans) never stood a shot at 60. Only question was whether the GOP would unanimously cast "show votes" for it, or would some of them refuse to even do that.

Now, the "open for three weeks, then we can do the same thing again" proposal?  To me, that one ought to pass 100-0. But I could actually see if failing to get 60, too.

interesting Cruz can shut it down by Obama rejecting it, yet it is Trump now.

I think the blame falls on the person or party saying "I want X or I refuse to keep the status quo going while we negotiate through regular order".  I want a wall or we shut it down.  I want ACA repealed or we shut it down.  In the spirit of botherism, the Dems saying "we want DACA protection back or we shut it down" was wrong too.  Ongoing function of the government and necessary raising of the debt ceiling should not be used as a bargaining chip to enact legislative change, no matter who does it.

Interesting that whenever a Republican publicly stands up and announces "I will not allow the government to function unless everybody else gives in to my demand", you push false claims that somebody else actually did it.

Interesting, but not surprising.

Dems in senate could try the senate precedent gambit.  Move that CR in instance of government shutdown longer than 30 days require only 50 votes for cloture.  Maj leader rules against motion.  Ask for clarification from parliamentarian, who will rule against.  Move that senate precedent be established for that new rule.  Dare the GOP senators who voted for Dem CR to vote against it.  It's the same procedure used to change senate precedent to require only 50 votes to confirm non-SCOTUS judicial nominees by Reid and then SCOTUS nominees in 2017.  The death grip by party leaders in the senate should be bucked by the rank and file.

Here is what I don’t get.

On trumps side, he wants a wall. Let’s agree it’s terrible, ineffective, ect. But he really wants it. I can understand shutting down the government to get what you want. Justify is a different question, but i can see the reasoning.

on the democratic side though the answer is a flat no to any money for a wall.  And trump is desperate. He really wants that wall. I find it hard to believe that there is nothing on the democratic side that isn’t worth pissing away 5 billion dollars on a wall that can be thrown out the minute Trump gets tossed out of office. I mean, DACA, Gun Control, Minimum wage. I think the dems are playing the petty game with trump instead of getting what the want. It makes no since to me. So if someone would explain to me why they aren’t using the huge amount of leverage they have to get some of the policies they want in exchange for 5 billion dollars I would appreciate it

Its not caving or giving into an imperial president if you get more than you give.

Ok, just so I’m clear here...

The wall would be innefective and a tremendous waste of resources...

BUT, Trump really wants it.

So he’s shut down the government.

Which you find understandable.

And you think democrats are being petty.

Schumer blocked the request after first asking if Kennedy would modify his request to instead reopen the quarter of the government currently closed.

"President Trump is responsible not only for thousands of Coast Guard personnel not getting paid but hundreds of thousands of other federal employees also not getting paid," Schumer said.

Kennedy said he would not modify his legislation because it would then be vetoed by Trump.

Schumer's stupid.  He had to know the bad optics and headlines it would generate.  Much better path would have been to pass the bill.  Have the house pass it too.  Then when Trump signs it, hammer him on why he's willing to pay the Coast Guard but not put the other workers back to work.  And also hammer McConnell for not taking up the piecemeal funding legislation that house has been passing ("I'm glad the brave men and women of the Coast Guard can rest easy with their wages, but we still have TSA security personnel.  Air traffic controllers.  Department of Justice.  US federal court system.  People who uphold the very law and order of our federal government who are unable to work or working without pay.  We have federal workers who have to line up at food banks.  We did the sensible thing by restoring pay for our men and women of the Coast Guard.  Let's do the same for the rest of furloughed federal workers.").  The damn speech writes itself.  Stupid stupid stupid.

I disagree. This piecemeal funding of government is an albatross. It prevents urgency from solving the damn issue.

The fact is, the government needs to be opened. There are real dangers to our national security and our safety/health by keeping it closed. Masking it with these bandaids does nothing but ease the pressure on those who need to resolve this.
