Her presidential campaign is going to be over pretty quick.

Donald Trump is the reason there is no deal.   He could've gotten 25 billion for his damn wall, in exchange for a permanent fix to DACA in 2017.   Trump said no, asking for more things. So, no deal happened.   His party controlled the full congress for 2 years.  If they really wanted to fund the wall, they could've gotten rid of the fillibuster and viola; funding for a wall.

The shutdown will end, when the GOP caves and decides to override any potential Trump veto.   It might be several more weeks before that happens.

The next thing to watch is HOW the Senate takes up the Trump bill. Will the Dems be allowed to bring up amendments? Or will they even play the game? Will they point out the fact that McConnell has been against "show votes" that Trump won't sign and Pelosi won't agree to for 3 weeks, and he now is putting on a "show vote" that Pelosi won't agree to? Or will they at least try to shape the bill?

Basically, will the Senate GOP channel Trump and block any compromise, or will this be an open process?

The Senate GOP will step in line and vote to pass this bill to attempt to push the blame onto Democrats

If we are playing the blame game and two out of the three needed agree it would tend to .

I expect the Senate to make it open to amendments and just drag it out more, then the House reject.

or maybe the 3 will work together in harmony ......:ols:

Again, the GOP and Trump are making it look like they don't care about the economic impact to the 800k Fed employees plus the other parts of economy that this ripples through.

If they are serious about negotiating a border security package, why not reopen the government for X weeks?

All the steps they (and primarily it is Trump wirh the lead) have taken so far: shutting down the government, waiting until week 4 to even offer compromise, walking out of meetings, taking on the shutdown mantle are about one thing -- making the WALL a 2020 issue.

He is not getting that wall. The GOP can pretend it is the Dems fault, but they had their hands on goverment and refused to give Trump the wall conveniently they came up with a ploy to blame Nancy for no wall the moment she has the power.

And Nancy is not dumb enough to say, "I am proud to reject border security."

Most Americans are against the wall -- does President Polling know this?

He wants the shutdown to last until Congress hammers out halfway steps of Comprehensive Immigration Reform? And now the racist right is upset because DACA is "amnesty".

Opening up the government and dropping his demand for Wall are good faith steps that the Dems have asked for since Day 1. What good faith steps has Trump/GOP taken? Shutting down the govt?

"Making it look like"??  They don't care, could give a rats ass.  It's about personal power and standing.

Maybe the tide is sloooowly starting to turn.

“What the [expletive] were we thinking?” he asked the other night inside a Walmart here, in an area of blue-collar suburban Detroit that helped deliver Trump the presidency.

I blame Trump voters.

I actually don't. It's not their fault that they're stupid. I blame the people who knowingly exploited their stupidity for persona gain, fully understanding the damage it was going to cause.

The Feds have paid that much money in advance to the states?

That much was able to be scraped up and allocated.  Was supposed to be until the end of Jan. but payments were found to extend until the end of Feb.

The fix is in. They know Trump wins in 2020 and the GOP regains full control.

Trump, the GOP and the Russians are already working on rigging the 2020 election in their favor.

It's pretty bad.

https://theweek.com/speedreads/818966/senate-republicans-released-trumps-shutdown-bill-makes-big-quiet-changes-asylum-process

This is a huge set of changes that, on its own, is vastly worse than the "benefit" of 3 years of protections (mind you, given the court order and the narrowness of the law, this benefit is basically zero to a detriment), which combined with the wall funding makes this bill truly unconscionable.

It'll be a good test to see which Dems and Reps are playing political games by giving lip service to this "compromise" which is really anything but.
