Miami Herald: I’m done trying to understand Trump supporters. Why don’t they try to understand me?

Recommended Posts

Well honestly if that’s the distinction, then yeah.  There is no reason to try and understand trump supporters.

But I don’t honk that’s what the writer is saying nor do I think that’s the real issue.

The dems need to understand why non trump “supporters” voted for him.  And I’m specific with that.  Not those that didn’t vote for Hillary.

Wouldn't you agree that your first paragraph does not support your position? Maybe the reason the democrats are winning is because people are pissed off at the GOP right now? Actually, I'm sure that if you think about it, you understand that that's exactly what the case is. Nobody is being driven to the polls by issues any more now than they were in the last election. People are motivated to vote because they see what a **** nugget Trump and the rest of the GOP goo have become.

The next part about not understanding what I and others want the Dems to do... I've been pretty clear about it. I don't want them to make up bull**** scandals, I don't want to have my Facebook feed littered with memes of fake quotes and photoshops of Trump slicing Mexicans' throats, I don't want 5000 websites popping up targetting idiots with obviously ridiculous tabloidal nonsense, I don't want a candidate who knows nothing but gets elected because he acts like an asshole, I don't even want them to say that Republicans or conservatives are the enemy.

I want them to say, "Look, all this stuff is what the GOP is doing. Conservatives and Republicans are not our enemy, but the GOP isn't either of those things. The GOP on the federal level, is willing to destroy our country's integrity for power, not even realizing that they have no power... they are beholden to (not supported by) the wealthiest Americans and they are more than willing to **** over the rest of us if they are told to do so in order to give more to the people who need it least." I want someone to stand up and say "Trump is a ****ing liar!" I want them to point out, over and over and over again that he mocks disabled people and POWs and lies about Obama wiretapping him and ****s porn stars while his wife is home nursing their new baby and brags about sleeping with his friends wives and defends the KKK and threatens nuclear war when one of the fireflies buzzing around in his brain lets out a fart, and etc, etc, etc and I want them to take every piece of **** GOP congressman who supports and defends that behavior to account.

I have no desire to sit back and watch the GOP continue winning by making a bunch of mouth breathing morons vote for them with hate and fear and corrupting the each branch of the government with every dirty trick in the book while the dems talk about the availability and affordability of energy. One you crush the biggest issue... the greatest threat to our country... then we can work on fixing the energy problem.

edit: I do want the politicians to start playing just as dirty with things like gerrymandering, obstruction, blocking nominations, etc. Or, not so much I want them to as that I recognize that they have to.

This will not win an election. They have to stop telling people what the other guy is going wrong and start telling people what they are going to do right. If you play this game the Republicans will win. They are better at it. The Democrats that have won recently have done so by running for what they plan to do not running against who their opponent is or who is in the WH.

Never wrestle with a pig - you both get dirty and the pig likes it.

I'd need an example because it seems to be that I've seen quite a few "______ is a Trump supporter" ads being used. But I would also tell you in addition to that, that every democrat is getting votes because of who is in the white house whether they say the guy's name or not and a lot of them are getting votes because of who they are running against. Doug Jones didn't win because of issues. He won because he was running against a disgusting human being and because everybody was talking about what a disgusting human being he was. And it's a good thing they were too because he just barely won in a race where the other side's campaign strategy was "Yeah, he's a kid toucher... BUT THE OTHER GUY IS A LIBERAL!!!"

Conner Lamb is the most notable. He did not run against 45 or even his opponent - and I am not talking about there were absolutely no ads or anything - that's absurd. What I am saying is that the main thrust of the campaign was more about what he planed to do different not what was win with others.

And you putting two things together that I was not discussing. People know what a POS 45 and the republican party. So I agree people are voting against him in many cases. However when you rub peoples nose in it many of those independents and others who voted for him even though they didn't like him but could be convinced to vote against him will dig in. And I am not talking about his base supporters. Talking him down is the same as talking them down in their eyes.

And giving constant reminders of what POS 45 and the Republican party is will not change peoples mind. I saw a study the other day that 70% of the people knew he was lying yet 42% still thought he is doing a good job and like him as president.

And Doug Jones may have won because of Roy Moore being a despicable human being, but he made it close to begin with by campaigning on what he planned to do.

I gave you one in the same state as us and you didn't respond.

Btw, told my mom I know somebody I'm cool with online that hated Trump as much she did and didn't mind not only waving that flagpole but hitting people with it.  She said "Thank you"

"Idiots."

Sometimes I think there's an unintentional mixing of what to do to get Trump out of office and how we should've stopped it from happening begin with.  There is some overlap, but its not the same thing.

There is a better way to do this. Probably would require running on a platform of common sense and talking about treating everyone with respect and as adults. Those who will get it, will get it. Those who don't probably shouldn't aimed for as a potential supporter.

This is what I was alluding to when I said the people who most need to work to understand Trump supporters are Trump supporters themselves.

There's a lot of this I've been hearing over the last few years... people on the right who **** about immigration issues, that own businesses, ****ing about how they can't find anyone to fill the jobs. So they're behind on work. Or ****ing about how the price of things are going up, because their suppliers can't find workers.

Or, ****ing about the weather (in ways the climate scientists tell us are the results of global warming) and you can discuss it with them for an hour and get them to agree with it all - so long as you don't say "global warming" or "climate change."

How their brains have been programmed is quite interesting. They're capable of understanding the arguments, but once they hear a keyword their brain goes into frenzy. If you tread lightly you can have a lot of fun manipulating them.

Gotta love it when these dimwits start to realize how badly they've screwed themselves.

Run lemmings run! Head for the cliffs. Race to the sea. I can't wait for the "Flintization" of drinking water in WV and rural PA thanks to easing of mining restrictions!

I think that may be a little harsh, getting excited for people to lose access to clean water.  And my town will probably be next.  Pensacola is allows high on the list when you search worst water in America. Will be interesting to see how the government handles it since it is a huge military town.

"I blame...."

anybody but yourself.

It's what Limbaugh has taught them so for long. Yeah, you might be listening to him in the middle of the day because you're waiting for a welfare check.... but it's not YOUR fault. It's the black single women in Chicago with kids who is REALLY the issue.

We have a greater risk of martial law under Trump/Republicans than Democrats.

BTW, how'd that Obama is going to declare martial law thing work out?

Yeah, thought so.

Oh come on.It happened right after the Terrorist Fist Bump and the massive gun confiscations, right before he declared himself president for life.

to tag along other posts in other threads about the same things..   this is why there is no 'understanding' left from me. They don't want any understanding. For them, listening to you get exasperated while trying to explain easily proven real facts to them is goddam knee-slappin' hilarious.
When truth is never acknowledged, (and in fact mocked) then the intent of their action is quite clear.

She aint all wrong though. Fox is training them to think in this irrational ass manner. When its all over TV like that every day for years they start to believe it. They aint smart enough to cut through all the bull**** coming at them. And now that you have 24 hour, unrestricted and unregulated access to them through FB and Twitter its almost impossible for stupid people to be able to make heads or tails of it all.

And plus they are idiots. And stupid. Also very not smart.

If a person will not be educated, then they must be left behind. Social/tech logical advancement was never made by embracing destructive, backwards thinking and rejecting positive, forward thinking ideals. That is how civilization stalls and crumbles.

I don't want to crumble

And enough with the dick wanking civil war fantasies. That will never happen. Most of these people are old ****s, and many, when faced with that moment of truth, are not willing to die/see their loved ones die for this, or take on the US Gov/Military. The o es that would, are too small in number. If they weren't, they would have done something already, but they won't, because they k ow that the moment a single spark flies, anyone they could've won over that is sitting on a fence, will either see them for the sick losers they are, or be too scared to join them and die needlessly for a premise entirely rooted in nothingness.

At some point we need to get serious about how to address that without breaking the 1st Amendment.  There will always be stupid people, that doesn't mean we should stand by and watch people feed them full of BS. Fox News is as big a threat to this country as any other, yet they get a pass for being a "News Organization".  They are not.

Agree but our government doesn't even understand how the technology works for real. They sure as hell dont understand the dangers of it. It worries me alot.

With you on that one, they kick out scientists from their decision making processes then ask us how to change the WiFi password on their router.  I have zero faith in baby boomers getting that right, it'll be up to millennials and gen z who grew up with it and don't need our hand held in the digital age.
