Grant Paulsen goes to Craig Hoffman today the vibe I get and do you get the same vibe that the front office thinks they really have a really really good team already where they don't have this big itch to make moves.  Craig goes yep that's the vibe he gets.

Another beat guy said something similar.  Forgetting whom.  Cooley and Sheehan were joking about this point the other day making the same point of getting the vibe with Cooley disagreeing with what they are thinking at Redskins Park -- saying he thinks its a C +, B - roster.

So when Bruce talked about all these guys coming back from injury -- seems like he meant every word.  It's interesting because it looks like they are riding into this season I presume by telling Dan they have a playoff roster.   I hope they are right because of they are wrong I think it will likely cost some jobs over there.

And by thinking they are really really good -- the beat guys don't mean it by just extrapolating it based on their lack of aggression in FA -- but that its actually what they are being told.  That is the FO think they are really good.   Will see.

Yep, agree SIP.

McPhee confirmed. Less injured but still injury prone version of Gallette :)

Actually totally different player to Galette - even though they have the same position label.

Galette is a 255lb speed rusher who primarily played in sub packages as a specialist pass rusher. McPhee goes about 280 and while he is decent pass rusher is much more of a set the edge OLB in base 3-4 who should help us against the run and who might even play some 7 or 5 tech DE in the nickel packages to give Smith and Kerrigan some rest. He has a career high of 7.5 sacks.

I'd say this signing was about us wanting to get better against the run - which is clearly a huge need.

So is this the end for Gallette? or is it possible we still try to sign him too?

There were reports over the weekend the team had reached out to Galette saying they were 'going in a different direct'. No confirmation if they also said "Its not you its us".

I would be thrilled going into the draft if we could basically have our DL set. I would love to get Hankins as well and just end it all there. Ill be upset if we dont get him, but Ill get over it if they draft DL.

Looking more and more like no Hankins.

Can't wait to give up 5 yards per rush up the middle again next season. It'll be great!

Yeh, you're absolutely right. Was thinking more of the injury history.

TBH I didn't even know who Hankins was before 2 weeks ago so losing out on him wouldn't devastate me.  If we sign him I'd still want to take Vea or Payne as the top Ds have more that 4 starters and that rotation of fresh legs thru the end of halves and fourth quarters is where we got killed last year.   I'm for taking one of those guys unless Nelson, James, Barkley, or Roquan falls to 13.

To be clear, a deal with Hankins could still happen. There was some momentum between the club and player during his visit to the team facilities.

Keep in mind, too, that Hankins didn’t sign last year until April, when he inked a three-year, $30 million contract with Indianapolis.

Im not too worried, though still want to draft someone. Until we started getting hit by injuries we were giving up 88 yards on the ground per game.

I'm worried. We ranked dead last in rushing D last year, and the two years prior we were tanked something like 26th and 27th. Rough times in the trenches.

I don't know. The unnamed "league source" gave his opinion. I'm pretty sure that's 100% legally binding and more meaningful than anything else in existence.

I don't mean to knock on you man, but you should have known who Hankins was. And, if you did, you'd realize you should be devastated... To upgrade from the worst NT in football for two years running (Hood) to a top 3 NT would be massive.

--The Redskins confirmed the signing of outside linebacker Pernell McPhee on Monday. Washington has mostly dipped its toe into the free-agency pool so far, but its biggest splashes in past years have come later, with players like DeSean Jackson and Josh Norman.

"We're hoping somebody cuts another good player," Allen said. "That'd be great for us."

They did, idiot.  The Colts cut Jonathan Hankins.

I consider every report about Hankins until he signs with us or someone else to be fan fiction. No one knows what is really happening.

So JP meets with Bruce Allen, then wants to do an emergency podcast, and a separate report comes out saying "a league source" says...I can't prove it but that "league source" is most likely Bruce Allen after he said not to quote him. I'd bank on Hankins not coming here after that.

Bruce is an idiot and should be fired for not fixing the rushing Defense. Don't give me that "oh but we have the first round pick" nonsense. There are three positions where it's a 50/50 with first round draft picks - DL, WR, and RB.

42% of every single first round pick ever drafted at these positions went on to bust out in the league. But forget all that. It will work out for the Redskins, it always does right. I mean they have to draft DL now right. Sorry but how many times do we see things that are so clear of a need being ignored by this guy?

Instead of shifting the risk from a 50/50 draft pick to a proven commodity once again Bruce didn't want to spend the money.

So we get ourselves another 99 cent "Mc" burger instead of giving the team a good steak meal.

Right now I'm venting because Vinny would have paid 20% more then Hankins should have gotten but he would be here now and I'm pissed off that Bruce is so cheap he has me thinking about him. Rant over. Lets Gooooooooo

I'll say one thing in the defense of the FO -- if you hold onto cap room, you also got a shot sometimes of a good signing post draft.  Typically draft picks-new young blood triggers releases.

3 of their best FA signings have happened in April.

Having said that I get the skepticism, too.  I am not one to say trust them they know what they are doing and whatever they are cooking must be really good.  They haven't been hot in FA on the aggregate to earn that kind of trust IMO.  But I also will say you can't write the book on the FA class this early.  They tend to do something ultimately.  Will see.

I actually think it is not a bad public move to say your not trying to make a deal work while his agent is off trying to strike a deal elsewhere because it takes away the agents ability for him to use you to build the market to potential suitors ... it might not work but meh ...

Well yeah, I would be worried if we werent hammered by injuries last year. But if you look at how our DL played, and our defense when they did, before we got hit with injuries we were doing really well.

Not saying we have a comparable player right now, but how do you think the Eagles defense/defensive line would have been if they lost Fletcher Cox for the year?
