Ramsey aggravates foot injury

Washington quarterback slips in dirt spot near the end of practice

Richmond Times-Dispatch

Thursday, December 4, 2003

ASHBURN - Washington Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramsey had hoped to hit the practice field yesterday and find himself ready to play Sunday against the New York Giants.

Ramsey missed last week's game against New Orleans because of an injury to his right foot. And things did not go as he had hoped yesterday.

Ramsey almost got through the practice then slipped when dropping back to pass late in the session and aggravated the injury.

"He slipped in a dirt spot," Redskins coach Steve Spurrier said. "He 'tweaked' his foot a little bit.

"Until then, it didn't seem to bother him too much. He looked like he was ready to play. He was firing the ball and was able to set up and throw and was moving around very well."

Ramsey was taken to a hospital for an X-ray then returned to Redskin Park.

He declined to talk to reporters because he and his wife were rushing to an event at the White House. In a taped statement, Ramsey said the X-ray showed no change in the injury to his fifth metatarsal. He hopes to practice again today. He is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game. - Paul Woody
