I drafted Mike in the second round and then once the eighth round started, I saw that Rod was still on the board and so I had to nab him. Will I regret this? redman Posted September 4, 2001 Share Posted September 4, 2001 Hard to say objectively without knowing the number of teams in your league and the league scoring rules. Westy was a little early, although he might perform well enough to justify a pick that high. It's always the dreaded "p" word with him. I usually stay away from rookie receivers as that WR and TE positions, as much as any other with the possible exception of QB, require some tremendous learning to get up to NFL standards over and above what was utilized in college. The Randy Moss's of the world are very few and far between. With that in mind, big, physical WR's like Gardner usually have an easier transition than speedsters who who quickly discover the NFL is much more physical than college and that they're no longer the fastest one on the field. I have a feeling Rod's last 4-6 games this season will show us glimpses of the talent that had us drafting him where we did. The bottom line with Gardner is that I'd probably want him as a backup fantasy-wise. ------------------ "Loosen up, Sandy baby. (He is my 2nd backup) And 2nd round is WAY too early for westy. Unless you have a lot of redskin fans in your league. And you REALLY want him. Art Posted September 4, 2001 Share Posted September 4, 2001 Your mistake, as stated here, was moving too early on Westbrook. You probably could have gotten him even later. I think he'll produce for you though. Gardner and Westbrook could be very good, surprise picks, or, they could crumble and make you rue your day picking Redskin players. I rarely take Redskins in fantasy leagues unless the value is just too good to pass up. I had Stephen Davis two years ago as a final round pickup and won the league largely on his strength. Gardner is the type that could help you win the league. A late pickup who could produce like an early one.
