What we'll need next year to finally put us over the top

1)Okay, the obvious first answer is DL, particularly a couple of decent pass rushers. Assuming Dalton renegotiates his salary to reasonable levels, he stays. With any luck Noble will be back to shore up against the run. Darrell Russell is still a question mark - I'd look for a contract loaded with incentives. If he stays and gets back into his former playing shape, he could be our interior DL's savior. If that happens, we need a terror at DE. Forget Kearse; he'll be too expensive. (And I, for one, wouldn't cry if we cut Upshaw loose.)

2) A defensive consultant to work with Edwards, like Arnsparger was brought in to help with Nolan. Petitbon would be the ideal guy, IMO. Whoever it is needs to command enough respect to reign our LBs back in, and assign Lavar back to pass rushing duty.

3) A tough blocking TE. Doesn't have to be a superstar - more like someone like Rasby. IF Royal ever stays healthy and/or Chamberlain ever gets back into shape, we probably have a decent pass-catcher, but what we really need is another Don Warren, not the next Tony Gonzales.

4) Depth at CB. Champ turned down a generously reasonable offer to stick around. If McAllister comes significantly cheaper, I'd rather get him and spend the $$$ on DL. In any case, we need another quality CB. Maybe we'll pick one up in the draft but I have little confidence at all in Bauman or Jimoh at this point. Face it, we'll need 3 decent CBs to take on Dallas' trio of WRs.

5) A tougher pass blocking FB. Maybe we already have this in Rock - he is in many ways our most versatile RB. But we definitely need better pass blocking from our RBs (Are you listening Trung??) This has been perhaps the biggest source of our offense unraveling this year.

6) Depth - Too much $$$ is earmarked for Samuels and Lavar next year. If they don't renegotiate (esp. Samuels), it may be time to bite the bullet and cut them loose. We'll need to pick up a couple more decent OL. Hopefully our FO will make better choices this time around then Rod Jones or Fiore.

Finally, if possible at reasonable $$$, I'd extend Smoot, Ramsey, McCants, and Iffy.

Iffy and McCants are RFA's this year. Lavar is not going anywhere anytime soon and i think it is possible that Samuels is cut or traded . We need D-LINE help badly and after thinking about this for awhile i could possibly see us being set to go on a free agent run like 2000' and we all know what happend with that.

First off don't tell me to shut up, who put you in charge. If you undersand the talent in the draft you would then know that there are not many DE or DT prospects that will be able to perform right away. We need to help the Dline though free agency or restricted free agents. The first thing to do is sign DRuss.

We also need a RB that will but fear in the defense. The reason Ramsey is always picking himself off the ground is no other team respects are running game. We need balance and our current RB's are not the answer.

I agree with you about the CBs. 100%

I think we definitely need to resign Russell. I have seen what he can do. He'll be back. Problem comes in with salary cap. Arrington and Samuels and Trotter are all going to be way overpaid next year, and I don't want to see Arrington go. Upshaw will still be here and be overpaid - he is cheaper to keep than to cut.

Also - I'd like to see us get a big FB who can pass block and make a hole in the line, and see Rock at starting TB.

Our main inphasis needs to be on defensive line and coaching this offseason. I say Trotter needs to go, too much money and not enough return. Renegotiate Lavar and Samuels. If Samuels does not agree, cut him too. Build a young talented D and O line in Free agency and draft. Champ should be a priority but do not go so far as hurting the teams ability to sign more important players at positions of need. If he goes for broke let him test the market.

Well, I won't tell you to shut up jbooma, but I really think you are wrong here. It is true that the best time to have addressed the DL would have been the 2003 draft, but we didn't, so we have to in 2004. We are fine at RB... it is not our RBs' fault that they never get their number called during games. When they are given the chance they have been effective. We have had an unusual amount of injuries at RB this year which hurt us, but outside of Trung, none of these guys are "injury-prone," whatever that means. Rock handles short yardage situations as well or better than anyone in the league. Betts is probably our most consistent runner and is very good at catching passes and turning them into big gains. Trung really does have big play potential as he has shown since getting over his injury. And Simon, Morton, and McCullough give us more talent to play with. If anything, we need to lose a few backs without replacement (just as long as we don't lose our biggest, sturdiest backs in Betts and Cartwright).

Mmmm... Where do I start. A real GM, a pass rushing DE not named Bruce Smith, a beast at DT, a #1 draft pick that actually contributes over the whole season, a RB that can pound the rock and stay healthy, RB's that can pick up a blitz, an owner who doesn't play fantasy football with his franchise, assistant coaches who actually have done something on the NFL level, RUN THE BALL!!!, Spurrier to start getting in guys faces, LB's that play their assignments, a defense that can hold a lead, RUN THE BALL!!!, a team that is not only "good on paper" but good on the field, oh yeah and RUN THE BALL!!! That's about it. I think that might put us over the top. Just my opinion....

You are just jealous ;)

Tell you what we will take some of your DL for some of our WR's :silly:

Actually, when comparing anything to the Eagles WRs, I'd probably be envious of a team starting two trashcans (with or without wheels) as their starting WRs. So, yes I certainly am jealous of Coles and Gardner. I think Freddie Mitchell will be the Eagles #1 WR next year. He has really improved this season.

Is Noble supposed to be ready for you guys next year?

There has been a Mitchell sighting !!!!! :silly: Has he been consistent though?

It all depends on his rehab, he said he wants to play just doesn't know what his knee will be like.

I am going to say this an only oce we need a RB preferably Kevin Jones these the running backs we have are good but if the are just in a commitee and keep getting injured every game then none is even capable of being a full time runner for more than two games. Either Trung is hurt or Ladell is hurt or their both hurt we have to shore this up or nect year it if we address are D line this will be are biggest weakness.

Well, he's second on the team in yards, and first in ypc (around 18), and has had the fewest drops. He's been playing in the slot however. They need to get him on the field more.

I hope that was sarcastic about the receivers, coming from a Philly fan. D-Line has got to be the priority. Be it draft of FA. Something has got to change. I'll agree that we need a feature back, but who sasys we don't have one already in Ladell? this Kevin Jones **** can stop...he's gonna be a bust...why would the 'Skins waste a top pick on a rookie RB? Too risky, when half of the top RB's picked don't amount to anything. If we even draft offnese in the first round, the FO needs to have their heads checked.
