Did you know....

Everybody is bashing Spurrier for his unbalanced play calling Sunday, but when you break down the game a surprising fact appears

up until the last two drives after the Saints went ahead by 4 points, and the Skins had to go 83 yards(first series of the two) to score a TD a situation where 99.99% of NFL teams will be in heavy pass mode, by the way.....

The Plays selection was 30 pass plays, 26 run plays

upon further review on two of those pass plays, Hasselback audibles out of a run (remember Friedman's run blocking down field twice on pass plays on the TD drive, both penalties for illegal man down field)

So that means the play selection was 28 pass 28 run perfect balance of calls by the Ol' Ball Coach :thud:

and the Play everyone is screaming about the fade pass on 3rd and 2.... another audible by Hassellback :poke:

So once again, these Sports Journalist, who think they know more than Spurrier, ignore the facts for a good bash story :twitch:

Thanks for posting that.

I didn't know the stats but I knew that the passing wasn't as out of control as everyone was saying UNTIL the team had like 2:00 minutes to go and had to score. And they did the same that ANY other NFL team would have done.

That's why I was so Pissed at Jansen's comments and attitude. I will NEVER wish Jansen well again. He's just a ass in my opinion.

I think the criticism's of Spurrier have been VERY unfair and unfounded.

Yeah, these journalists are really out to get Spurrier. It's like just because he's 11-18 as a coach and has only won one game in the division, they assume he's doing a less than adequate job. What a bunch of jerks.

There is nothing wrong with criticizing the record, coach, players

but instead of researching their facts, and giving legitimate reasons for the failure, many take the same old tired Ol'Ball Coach Pass Happy College Coach bash story.

Instead of reporting that the defense failed due to a lack of a pass rush, giving the Saints all day to pick apart the defense in the 4th quarter.... It is the Play Calling?

I really wish I could post a viewpoint about the Saints game, but I'm usually pretty sloshed by the 4th quarter these days....the only thing that matters to me is the final score and the big plays when in this condition.

I will never be indifferent about a Dallas game....I hope we beat that team senseless.....

but the rest, while i'm cheering for victory....it's hard to get too down about a loss.......

with every loss, the draft pick is higher....

with every loss, Spurrier's way is further exposed......

I don't know who the hell the best coach out there for us is.....

But I know who it isn't. I need a drink.

They averaged over 6 yards per carry and they had passed more than they had run the ball with a back up QB at the helm and a depleted O-line. Saying they passed the ball too much is not a big stretch...and neither is criticizing it. Throwing 42 times with a backup QB is not playing the averages.

6 yards avg

0-1-2 yrd runs-14

3-5 yard runs- 4

6-10 yard runs- 5

10-20 yard runs- 2

20 plus runs- 2 (38yard by Canidate, 22 yards by Rock at the end of the first half)

doesn't look quite as impressive when broken down.

and the 42 pass plays, when you seperate the last two series (again where every team would be passing almost every down) I have shown that the Skins play calling was balanced.

It always seemed to me that the more relevant statistic should be the median yards per run. Using the average gives too much weight to the long runs. If you want to know what you can expect to get when you call a run play, the median is more applicable. Did anybody seriously sit there on Sunday and expect the Skins to gain 6 yards every time they ran?

Our median yards/run was 2 yds.

No one said the head coach didn't hold any responsibility, the point I am making is, The media should lay the blame where it belongs, and research their facts, and report the truth, instead of the same old prepackaged "that wacky ol'ball coach, gone pass happy again" story.

On the surface it looks like the Skins abandon the run, and went pass happy again. But in reality.... not the case when you dig a little deeper

great post. i really wasn't seeing the dominant running game that the stats showed. i think spurrier called an excellent game. the only thing i didn't like is our pathetic play action fakes. the qbs need to be a little more convincing. as usual we were 1-2 overthrown balls and missed reads from blowing the doors off the opponent. we need alot more work on the offensive side of the ball, especially since the defense only plays for during the first 45min of the game.

Yeah, they were dominating with the running game....

--------------------

i don't know???take a look at most of b.sanders big gms..he had more runs for 0-negative yds than any RB ever..then bam,he'd hit the big one/homerun..

or

just for comparison...if a marino goes 20-35-340-3 did he have a good/dominate day since he had 15 incompletions for 0yds
