OR...

He knew he was gonna do this and spent his remaining time with the mind-set "you can't take it with you..." We'll never know.

That's more likely given the extensive arsenal he had on hand, along with two "shooting platforms" in the room.  He planned this out.

Not technically necessarily an automatic though. Perhaps just a binary system.

I have no idea what that means.

Where did you see the 2 shooting platforms news?  I hadn't seen that yet...

But the sounds of gunfire clearly indicated automatic weaponry, correct?

I'm not really qualified to speculate on whether a gun is automatic or not based on the recording of sounds. In my experience, most people aren't either. I head someone on NPR talking about "automatic clips" this morning...

I'm not going to say it wasn't. I don't know.

We'll find out in a day or two, I'm sure.

A semi-automatic weapon fires one shot  each time the trigger is pulled. A binary semi-automatice weapon fires one shot when the trigger is pulled and a second shot when the trigger is released.  Needed if the deer you are hunting is really agile.

"[Sheriff] Lombardo said multiple firearms were found inside the hotel room. He said the room is still being processed and further details weren’t immediately available. KTNV, citing police sources, reports that Paddock had at more than 10 guns inside the hotel room, along with two platforms set up to shoot from. He also had cameras to see police arriving, the news station reports. He is believed to have used long range rifles, News 8 Now reports."

Seems weird you can carry that kind of arsenal into a casino, where they take their security as seriously as anyone.  But I guess short of metal detectors, it's kinda difficult.

People routinely check in with lots of baggage since there are trade shows with exhibits there on an ongoing basis.

If dude had cameras set up he definitely planned on this when he arrived. No one loses it all in Vegas but decides to spend their last few bucks on cameras. You dont think that much through if you snap. At least I wouldn't think a man would but obviously I have no experience in it.

Then they said it was some 64 year old white guy.  Im like WTF????  I wonder what Trump thinks about this thug who committed the worst mass shooting terrorist act in the history of our country.....

a mass shooting isn't necessarily terrorism.  For a violent act to be considered terrorism it has to have a political or ideological link.  I haven't seen any suggestion of a cause or ideological motive yet.

This is far from true.

When you go appoint a racist, bigoted, misogynistic, clueless megalomaniac to lead, it sadly isn't.

People may not like it. Hell, people may not be arsed about what happens outside your borders. But honestly .....

The World view of America under O: Great respect.

The World view of America under the wiggy moron: Complete laughing stock tinged with absolute, constant fear of what scary World carnage he might well lead everyone into.

But that's for another thread.

Hail.

What bothers me the most is that we'll never know why he did this. From what I've read so far, Paddock didn't seem to be your traditional mass shooter with a mental disease like Adam Lanza or Seung-Hui Cho. He was for lack of a better word "normal." So strange to say the least.

They will find something. We may never know of it fully, but something will come out. Browsing history, past relationships, magazines under the mattress....something. no one is invisible and then ruins it by murdering dozens. I just hope we DON'T find out anything about his political affiliations. That would bring out the worst in just about everyone.

I know what you are saying it is perversely comforting understanding the motivation no matter how messed up it might be.  This episode reminds me of the University of Texas Tower killer of 1966.  I was a teen at the time and was horrorstruck that an evil person would set up in a tower and just start randomly killing people.

Maybe the police will comb this guys life and find some pattern of behavior to explain this guy going off.

Of all the insufferable Cowboys, I'm not sure why the hatred for Romo.  He literally never won anything of note.  And he dated both Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood.  Definitely had more game off the field than on it... :)

I still smile at TR1 and bubba being the first two people in the world to correctly predict that Romo would choke at literally everything. Fans outside the NFC East had to wait until he was 34 years old to figure out.

It's stupid to claim that you can greatly effect something this large at the micro level (city). It had to be a macro (entire country) change in regulations/laws or the benefit will always be lost. SHS naming Chicago is just perfect since the GOP doesn't fully understand this notion.

You really can't blame cities for trying..because it does have some impact. Just no where close to what national level regs would have.
