Do you have the fever or just a cold?

Just wondering do you still have Redskins fever or has the season left you feeling cold? How badly has your faith been shaken? Have developed a tolerance to the antibaterial agents used to fight Norvitous?

I know I'm feeling low ebb and kind of pooped. It was hard to get riled up this game, though part of me really wants to rail against the refs for all their non calls. Two facemasks I saw. That blatant holding on Smith. The pass interferance againstColes. and on an on. I just can't seem to work up a propper rage about it. My antiNorv innoculation seems to be wearing off. Intellectually, I know that we played very well yesterday to be in it and so close playing with a qb that has been here five or six weeks, but that just doesn't inspire. I've got the Monday morning blues... just wondering how you all are?

Wow, what a unique season this has been.

Of course, hope always springs eternal at the beginning of the year but aside from our DL, I really thought our team went a long way toward improving itself in the off season. Even now, its clear that our free agent acquistions, except perhaps with Canidate at running back, have for the most part, proved very good to excellent. Even our DL has picked up over the last four or five games although they always seem to run out of gas in the fourth quarter along with the rest of the defense. When you consider Randy Thomas, John Hall, Laverneous Coles, Chad Morton and even Matt Bowen, who among us could say that those folks weren't upgrades to our team. We all knew that we wouldn't generate a pass rush this year unless we used our linebackers so that deficiency wasn't unexpected.

My fanaticism for the Redskins hasn't diminished one bit but I have noticed some different emotional responses to our season this year as opposed to all those coming before. It seems much of the anger I used to feel when we lost has dissipated and been replaced with a bitter and crushing disappointment. Yeah, the rage is gone but I liked it better than what I'm feeling now.

I don't suffer under any illusion that the Redskins had a SuperBowl quality team this year but I do think, had they been properly coached, we had enough talent to contend for a play off spot. I have the sense that everyone, from the owner to the coaches to the players to the fans, felt the same way. In my mind, this will always be the season of underachievement and mind-numbing disappointment.

It's from this mess, and it really is a mess, that the Redskins will either rise or fall further into the abyss next season. Fundamental issues must be addressed. Dan Snyder has some tough decisions to make and will take a lot of hits whichever way he chooses to go. To me, it's almost unimaginable to think what will happen to this franchise if changes aren't made and we continue along the path we've trod this year.

Its going to take a while for many of us to bounce back from this but, hey, free agency is only 100 days away and the draft not too far behind. Maybe, after those few short months have passed, we can put this behind us and feel the rejuvenation that spring brings. I hope so, anyway.

I try to be optimistic about the Skins and the future of the organization but it gets harder to do so every week. Going into the game this week I have to admit my expectations were fairly low. I figured we’d find a way to blow it…and we did. As a fan I hate feeling that way. I’m not one of those sadistic fans who seem to take pleasure in their team doing poorly and then saying “I told you so”.

This year has unfortunately followed the same pattern that things have for the past few years and it’s impossible for anyone to keep a positive attitude year after year. At some point they have managed to turn someone like myself, who might be considered by some a fanatical fan, into a casual observer.

Please save the fair weather fan comments if you have any. Yes, I’ll still be here tomorrow and during the off-season but some of my enthusiasm might have to be reined in a bit. This team and the management here is going to have to prove to me that we aren’t going to continue to be the laughing stock of the league and the butt of so many jokes. When I wear my jersey out to Wal-Mart I don’t want to have to hear crap from local Cowboy fans or have other Skins fans cry to me about how things suck. When mediocre is a step up, we have problems.

I want my freaking team back.

Maybe it's because I didn't have much expectations for this season to begin with, but I have to say that I'm actually not all that worried with the direction this team is headed in.

Despite the losses I feel like we have improved in some key areas and are starting to come together as a team.

I actually felt pretty good last week even after the Miami loss. Yesterday, after the Saints loss, I felt nothing. We are what we are, & what we are is a team that can't hold or protect a lead to save their @ss.

Honestly, I think this offseason is going to say a lot about 2004. Will Snyder go on a spending spree and look for that one HOT FA to turn the franchise around? Or will he solidify the positions/contract status of the core group we have and look to draft young talent to be the next superstars of the league? I wouldn't mind if we sign a FA for the D-line, because that needs the most immediate attention possible. I mean come on, when you have a secondary and LB core like ours, there is pretty much one HUGE reason the D is not performing....

For me personally, I found that I didn't throw one temper tantrum this weekend watching the Saints game. Probably because the game was meaningless for us in terms of the playoff picture. The lack of temper tantrums is a bad sign for me and really hurts. I'd rather be throwing the tantrums because it means that the games are still meaningful. Its so sad watching Redskins games in late november, with many fans either not in attendance or just not enthusiastic.
