Bernie is trying to hijack the party for his own ends, but he is not, and has never been, a Democrat. He is also one of the worst choices to face Trump in the general. That said, his running mate probably needs to be young(ish) and maybe even minority to excite more of the base. A Biden Booker (too New England?) or Biden Harris ticket would be phenomenal (to me). Why Biden chose to go on and get sworn in a few months later is a personal choice I have no answer for. I do suspect it's slightly different that's watching your mid 40s son slowly die from brain cancer over the period of 18 months..but again I don't pretend to know that grief either.
