@DCGoldPants
Jerkie Spurrier sez: "Throw Every Time!" Just got back from the game. It was fun. A lot of us in Section 140 were able to guess most of Spurrier's and Edwards' calls. I should go into coaching. I could call a D that would SHUTDOWN Spurrier's offense. Kilmer17
Well Shucks Bufford, we just gotta pitch it around a little bit more.
Gamebreaker
Yeah, definitely the worst call of the game.
Skeletor The Invincible
It seemed like it was an audible by Hasselbeck. I don't think I am wrong on that.
@DCGoldPants
he didn't audible ALL those times. It was called.
NoCalMike
whoever called the play needs to be sat down and lecture for awhile.
Skins26
I believe that was an audible b/c Hasselbeck saw the single coverage on Coles. Actually it worked, just a bad throw.
bubba9497
Gentleman, if Hasselback makes that pass... which he should have, Coles scores a TD. When the Saints knew the run was coming they did a good job of stopping it. They bought on the play action, and Coles was open and had the DB beat. It was a good call, it had as much chance to succeed as did a 3rd and 2 up the middle run. If we ran and was stopped, everyone would say what a stupid call, they KNEW we were going to run. Muskrat
Y'know, I actually was very impressed by much of what i saw from the Skins today. Hasslebeck looked nothing like a guy getting his first NFL start, and he appeared to audible quite a bit. If you are talking about the 3rd and short that he threw to Coles (?) and it went over his head, out of bounds, then YES, it was an audible. Other than that 3rd down play, I felt the Skins performed well on most of their 3rd downs..... Maybe it's me, but I got a lot of positives out of todays loss....especially since the rest of the season is going to be used for evaluating talent. Skeletor The Invincible
I thought Hasselbeck audibled a lot less than Ramsey did. On that play, yes, it worked, he had Coles one on one. But that's a low % play, as I said before. If you're going to throw, throw a quick screen or a slant. It was only two friggin yards.
Muskrat
The ONE difference between Ramsey's audibles and Hasslebecks' are that Hasslebeck seemed to pull them off without running into delay of game or a false start. What does that mean? I don't know, but Hasslebeck appear VERY comfortable with the system for someone who's only been with the team for a few weeks. Could we try running on this short yardage situations? Why not?
orlskinsfan
if it would have been stuffed you guys would have been calling it a bad play to run the ball because they would have been expecting it...hindsight is 20/20 ya know.....we are all armchair quarterbacks.....it was a good call but bad execution. @DCGoldPants
you got to at least try it once or twice!
orlskinsfan
we have tried it in the past only to watch it get stuffed....and the saints had the line stacked for the run....no way we make that run up the middle

bubba9497
We ran several times yesterday on 3rd down, why the heck do you think the Saints bit so hard on the play action??? The play was open for a TD.

@DCGoldPants
Ok, I was there and remember quite a few 3rd and less than 3's where we threw when we should of run. Some of those series were insane. 1st down: pass, incomplete 2nd down: run for 5 yards well, if we did that run for 1st down. Then 2nd and 3rd would of had more options. I'm just saying that it was a poorly called game by Spurrier since the QB has only been on the roster for 5 damn weeks.
jbooma
Originally posted by Bufford 2.5 1st down: pass, incomplete 2nd down: run for 5 yards This is because we don't have a dependable back for first and second downs. When ever Candidate was running and the D knew it they stopped him. When they were not expecting it, he had a nice gain. He has to many 1 or 2 or no yard gains to keep getting the ball on 1st. The WR screen is more succesful then Trung is on 1st downs
Symbol
This is why you not only throw the ball when you believe that the defense is all out on a run blitz, you playaction. This way you can grab a safety or two into the rush, plus you have a very slim chance, but a chance of freezing a corner for a millisecond. Either way, you have less people than normal on your #1 reciever, less than when you just call a pass.

atloldskin
Lets focus on the positives. We played (and lost) another close game. Most of our games this year, with a rookie QB, were decided by 7 points or less. We fixed our kicking game. The OL looked much better. Candidate ran well (his injury may have been effecting him more than I thought). We played with passion. The special teams looked good--Morton had his first gamebreaker. We found a second QB. Wiley and Dockery played well. The negatives. More penalties. Champ. Poor safety play (again). No Taylor Jacobs (get him a pass or two and into the game). No TE (we miss Royal). No punter. Larry
I don't have a problem with going deep on that play. But, if I'd gone for it on 3rd, it would've been on the understanding that, if I don't make it, then I'm going for it on 4th. It's one thing to go deep when the possibilities are a TD or a 4th-down try. It's different when the options are TD or game over.
