Reefer madness: More young Americans smoking marijuana than ever before

More young Americans are smoking marijuana and spacing out on psychedelic drugs than ever before, a new federally-funded health survey released Monday reveals.

The study conducted by the University of Michigan for the National Institutes of Health In found that 43% of adults ages 19 to 30 smoked cannabis at some point last year — a significant jump from 34% five years ago and 29% in 2011 and the highest recorded since 1988.

Similarly, 29% of young adults reported smoking weed in the prior months compared to 21% in 2016 and 17% in 2011.

Daily marijuana use also surged to 11% last year, compared to 8% in 2016 and 6% in 2011.

The increase in marijuana comes as 19 states have legalized the recreational use of cannabis in recent years — including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Polls also show more public acceptance of cannabis use.

Use of psychedelic drugs or hallucinogens had been stable for decades — until last year.

Eight percent of young adults reported past-year hallucinogen use, representing an all-time high since the category was first surveyed in 1988.

By comparison, just 5% of young adults reported hallucinogen use in 2016, and only 3% did so in 2011.

The types of psychedelic drugs cited by users included LSD, MDMA, mescaline, peyote, “shrooms” or psilocybin, and PCP.

This just in, politicians don't read the bills they vote on:

Oops, Minnesota Accidentally Legalized THC-Spiked Seltzer

That day, the Minnesota State Legislature passed a law allowing the sale of products containing THC. It was a baffling development, considering state Republicans’ longstanding opposition to marijuana legalization, yet Statute 151.72 passed—unanimously, with zero debate, in a GOP-controlled Senate.

There is some debate about whether some Republican lawmakers read or understood the statute, which was sponsored by the Democratic-Farmer-Labor opposition. For the past few years, the state has already allowed the sale of products containing delta-8 THC, the less-potent minor cannabinoid. But the new bill also legalized the sale of delta-9 THC, the major cannabinoid that creates the euphoric effect most marijuana users seek. With that, the least-regulated legal THC market in the United States was open for business.

“That doesn’t legalize marijuana … we didn’t just do that, did we?” Republican Sen. Jim Abeler joked during the session. They hadn’t. Instead, they legalized the manufacture and sale of products containing hemp-derived THC—edibles, capsules, tinctures, and drinks—with high enough concentrations for most people to feel their effects. “I thought we were doing a technical fix, and it winded up having a broader impact than I expected,” Sen. Abeler told the Star Tribune.

I went and bought a vape today.  Smoking so much flower is rough on the lungs.  I've only tried a couple puffs but I like it so far.

I've found those things tear my lungs apart far worse than flower.  I take a hit and cough to beat all every time.  Tried different brands/dispensaries and they just hurt.  Joints are the way to go for me.  Pipes, bongs etc make me cough too much also.  I can take just the right amount of a joint.  Hopefully, one day, they get edibles to be consistent and a little faster acting and maybe faster to wear off.  That would be great
