He built teams and hired coaches that don't get passed the second round. Same exact results as the last GM.

What? They won two presidents trophies. The last gm couldn't be in the position to build a championship roster... In fact the last gm missed the playoffs. Think about what you're posting, boss!!!

TBH I am genuinely happy with our offseason moves, try not to play GM for a second and I'm very happy to lockdown Kuzy Oshie and Orlov. Losing Mojo isn't great but like someone said other than that closer he had on the leafs he wasn't spectacular in the playoffs, deals have to be made in the offseason. Alzner, Williams and Shattenkirk I will not miss those guys. If Burakovsky can ink a deal I'll be a happy camper. I was also surprised Kuznetsov got a bigger contract than Oshie.

Um, Caps won the Presidents Trophy in the 2009-10 season under the last GM who is also responsible for drafting much of the talent to whom GMBM has given big extensions. (See Holtby, Kuznetsov, Orlov, soon to be Burakovsky)

Also, if you think the Caps haven't been contenders on years they have't won the Presidents Cup, well, I don't know what to tell you. The experts have often picked the Caps over the last 8-9 years to win it all. But hey, if it's all about the Presidents Cup for you, that's cool. I don't view that as a big deal.

It's not trading MoJo that people have an issue with I don't think. It's the fact that our GM was seemingly asleep at the wheel and didn't get more for him nor did they consider other options such as buying out Orpik to get cap space. GMBM got crushed in the MoJo deal.

I'm a fan of Burakovsky.  Very affordable deal at the moment.

My thinking is that Ovechkin isn't here for much longer if the Caps find a buyer.

That would be a stunner. I sorta think that time-frame for this off-season may have passed as teams use up their salary cap space.

I don't believe that it will happen this season but in a few years if, at the deadline, the Capitals are out of the playoff hunt I could see another team asking about Ovechkin in order to add him for a cup run

Not really now.  Next season or two possibly.  Once he gets closer to the end of his contract so it isn't so hard for another team to swallow.

Burt only got 2 years? He must feel slighted.. Guess he didn't have the KHL to threaten to run off to? lol

As for Ovi, I don't see any "contender" being able to afford his salary, for a PP specialist.. And if weaker teams want him he'll have the NTC to keep him from them. I see him here until he becomes so much of a liability that his ice time dries up, then he'll probably go back to Russia..

On a slightly bright note, I could see Nick, Kuz, possibly Burt having super years, because well, they'll have to..  But then April will roll around and we know what happens in April.

I don't know how to unload Orpik.  As in, I don't know of a team would take that contract.  I'd assume we still have his cap hit if we cut him.  He's a good team guy and one of the few defensemen who can actually throw a body, but his lack of speed certainly cost us.

I'd like to see us trade Grubauer or Holtby, but for the right price.

My opinion is to spend on Oshie becaue he's the type of player who wins playoff games.  He's fast(ish), he's got silky smooth hands and can score goals.  We need more players on this team in his mould.  If it means we can't bring Alzner back, so be it.  Plus, the chicks love Oshie.

Can't believe all the SUCKERS on here who are giving this team a chance next year. What do you fools want, they had a TWO YEAR window and

they squandered it. This year they were stacked from top to bottom, Pittsburgh was missing Letang and Murray, with Crosby hanging by thread with his concussion issues ...and they STILL LOST. THEY SUCK. It was as if the Hockey Gods were practically HANDING them the Cup, and they still dropped it (more specifically, Barry Trotz and Brooks Orpik dropped it). I don't see how ANY rational human being can give this team chance this upcoming season, or for the next couple season barring something miraculous like OV is traded for a Kings Ransom, or Crosby is forced to retire due to concussion issues (even then the Pens will probably beat them).

You guys are like a bunch of heroin addicts. This team keeps disspointing you, and yet like salivating dogs you keep coming back to them, with your pathetic hopes and rationalizations. You need an intervention. You need rehabilitation. I propose a 2 step program for Caps fans. Here are your options:

1. Give up Hockey altogether. Of the 4 major sports, Hockey is the least predictable and least Darwinistic. Look at how far the lowly Senators and Predators got this year. And this happens almost every year in this game -- the juggernaut gets taken out early, the cinderella team advances. Hockey is all about breaks and weird bounces. It is a maddingly frustrating game to follow. So take up a sport that is more predictable, like baseball but especially football.

2. Follow another up and coming team OTHER than the Caps: After everything I said in point 1, Hockey is still a fantastic game, possibly the greatest team sport in the world. It requires more skill than any team sport, and is the fastest team sport by a mile. Throw in beautiful body checks and the occasional fight, and hockey is truly a blast to watch. So if you insist on continuing to watch hockey, follow some other team other than the Caps. The Toronto Maple Leafs for example -- best coach in the game, a great young star in Matthews, loaded with lots of good young talent, passionate fanbase. Thats a team with a future. The Edmonton Oilers would be another great choice, along similar lines. Both of those teams will be entering their prime while the Pens will on the decline, so you've get to watch them break the hearts of the Pens and their knuckle dragging fans. Just root for ANYONE but the Caps. The Caps are cursed, plain and simple.

Honestly, someone like myself has to step in and provide Caps fans with a reality check. IT. IS. OVER. The dream is DONE. They are NOT winning a Cup in the OV era. Quit hurting yourselves by continuing to think they might have a chance. Has the last two years, has their entire history not taught you ANYTHING?

Sorry if I came across as harsh, sorry if I cam across as a jerk, but I'm saying this as much to myself as to any of you. I am still shock over this season. I still wake up in a cold sweat with visions of Nick Bonino streaking past "the Human Slug" Brooks Orpik in Game 1 (a play that when all is said and done cost us the series). But now all of that is done and we have to shake ourselves out of our stupor, and NOT continue to follow this team. Not set ourselves up for heartbreak...AGAIN.

The odds of winning a cup are definitely lower.  Maybe much lower.  My hopes aren't up.  That being said, if Ovi can drop 15 pounds and get some speed back and Trotz gets over his fear of young guys having more than 5 minutes of ice time before shipping them back to Hersey, the drop off might not be too terrible.

Some people aren't "real ass fans". Support this team bad or good. Because you love the sport. Otherwise you're just a bandwagoner.

Redskins been pretty mediocre, did you hop off that ship too? With an arguably worse owner tbh

Caps are a hell of a lot of fun to watch in the regular season. The playoffs are disappointing, but I have no control over the outcome. I get to watch six months of dominate hockey. I will always be a fan even when they don't dominate the regular season.

You know.  A while ago I mentioned something to the effect that I would take 10 seasons of regular season dominance and no cups over mediocrity and a playoff appearance here or there (essentially, Redskins) with a bleak chance of a championship.

Regardless of the lack of championships, the Caps have been one of the most fun teams to watch over the last 10 years.
