Canadian Hog
Noticed an interesting stat today. The Philadelphia Eagles haven't been able to stop the run that well this year, yet they are 4-0 when the opposing team rushes for over 100 yards against them. How does that happen? How do these guys pull it off and win games that maybe they shouldn't, and we on the other hand seem to lose every game that we should win? I can't believe the way this season has gone. :40oz:
OrangeSkin
That's one hell of a quirky stat and I can't make heads or tails of it.
KDawg
Because we have the power of Spurrier... It's unexplainable, all we know is that the power of Spurrier is the opposite of the Waist Size of Reid...
Canadian Hog
to make things worse, Philly is 21st in total offense, 24th in total defense, and are at the top of our division........unbelievable. That just proves that a break here, and a break there, a big play here, a big play there, and we could be in the position they are in.
KDawg
Time for my serious answer... Westbrook has broken two game winning runs when the game was close to being lost for the Eagles... That's why they win, the guys that they need to make plays, make plays... We don't have that luxury...

Om
Philly wins because they've spent the last few years building a TEAM. They have an identity. They have stability and competence in the coaching ranks. Perhaps most key is they have one of the best defensive coordinators in football, and he's been there long enough to where his system has "taken," and he can plug in new parts and still have success. Not unlike Richie Petitbone did here. When the Eagles take the field, they know who they are, they know what's expected of them as individuals, they know who's in charge, and they believe that they are going to win. There's no magic there ... it's just that they've found a formula, stuck with it, and built a team over the course of several seasons that, when it takes the field, is greater han the sum of its parts. We clearly aren't there yet . We're still individuals. Until the Redskins decide to have the patience to let the seeds they plant every offseason grow, they're still going to be less. It's still a team game. I get to sleep at night hoping that someday they'll remember that out in Ashburn.
jbooma
The Eagles take advantage of turnovers, they score TD's we score FG's. It is that simple

Exactly right! Their formula includes not overpaying for anyone on the team other than their franchise QB, developing their draft picks, and signing players for the long term before their contracts run out. It's a formula for building a winning dynasty, and it seems to be working. Here's a good article from ESPN magazine about their formula. It would be a good thing for us to try, but I don't think Danny the Snyder will go for blue-collar guys, he likes to draft and sign big-name guys with "Sex appeal". But it's the blue-collar guys that give you bang for the buck, not the big-name, big-signing-bonus guys with attention-grabbing back-loaded contracts. Linemen, not skill position players. With the salary cap, you can't have very many big-buck players on the payroll, or the other positions get short shrift. Sigh. Maybe Danny will learn eventually. Hope I live long enough to see us back on top.
TexasEagle
Well, Westbrook has emerged as a true game breaker along with the O vastly improving the last few weeks. While the D doesn't give up a lot of points, the O has been able to generate touchdowns. Redzone D has a lot to do with it also. It almost seems like a take all the yardage you want between the 20's, but once you hit the redzone be ready to work and word hard for a TD. BG
It's forcing the ball in Mcnabb's hands and giving him the chance to be creative, which is his forte'.
NavyDave
The only thing I gree with is that the iggles have stability, yet we have fans ready to kick S double to the curb instead of letting his system take hold. We arent gonna be in a position to draft our way to a dominant front four on defense this year so we have to go the free agent route this yeaar and call up a player from our farm team after the 2k4 season. All the praise about the iggles yet the have ended the season the same place as us........................................ home in front of the TV watching the superbowl but with an empty trophy case.
