Republicans feel vindicated by the Mueller statement, as if the whole investigation really is a ruse and everything is fake news.

Also- Let's just pretend for a minute that the Buzzfeed article was completely off the mark and THAT's what the SCO is referring to. This would be the FIRST TIME in this admin that the SCO spoke up to "deny" a report, which would indicate that this accusation is the ONLY false one in all the accusations over two years. (Again, just pretending.)

However, I agree that the SCO was probably just hinting that it wasn't them that leaked anything.

Quote

When a BuzzFeed reporter first sought comment on the news outlet’s explosive report that President Trump had directed his lawyer to lie to Congress, the spokesman for special counsel Robert S. Mueller III treated the request as he would almost any other story.

The reporter informed Mueller’s spokesman, Peter Carr, that he and a colleague had “a story coming stating that Michael Cohen was directed by President Trump himself to lie to Congress about his negotiations related to the Trump Moscow project,” according to copies of their emails provided by a BuzzFeed spokesman.

Importantly, the reporter made no reference to the special counsel’s office specifically or evidence that Mueller’s investigators had uncovered.

“We’ll decline to comment,” Carr responded, a familiar refrain for those in the media who cover Mueller’s work.

The innocuous exchange belied the chaos it would produce. When BuzzFeed published the story hours later, it far exceeded Carr’s initial impression, people familiar with the matter said, in that the reporting alleged that Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and self-described fixer, “told the special counsel that after the election, the president personally instructed him to lie,” and that Mueller’s office learned of the directive “through interviews with multiple witnesses from the Trump Organization and internal company emails, text messages, and a cache of other documents.”

In the view of the special counsel’s office, that was wrong, two people familiar with the matter said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. And with Democrats raising the specter of investigation and impeachment, Mueller’s team started discussing a step they had never before taken: publicly disputing reporting on evidence in their ongoing investigation.

Trump's team trying to confuse other people into thinking . . . . .

They know they're guilty. Every one of Trump's GOP enablers know it. That's why they spent two years trying to plant the seeds of "well, even if they find the evidence, . . . "

My opinion is that Buzzfeed got it right while citing the wrong evidence.

One thing we know that is not in dispute is that Trump Org and Trump himself had decided to lie about this to any one who asked. They lied to the public via the media and at least two of them, Don Jr and Cohen, lied to Congress under oath.

This was a coordinated strategy. This is a fact that has been confirmed through Cohen’s sentencing.

There is likely a paper trail pointing right in Trump’s direction because he was part of the gaslighting operation, telling everyone who asked that he had no business dealings with Russia and had not pursued any during the campaign. This is the same lie told by Cohen to Congress, that the SCO nailed him for. This is the same lie Don Jr said.

Whenever we learn what evidence prosecutors have about this coordinated perjury and gaslighting strategy, I suspect it will not represent what Buzzfeed tried to portray. But my bet is that it will likely tell the same story.

Giuliani saying that Cohen (the wholly disreputable fixer) was responsible for a 300 million dollar project and the president paid so little attention that he was unsure whether it ended in January or November, but of course he testified November. Nice point is that if it went through November he was continuing the deal after he was told of Russian interference.

If I was a betting woman, I bet he continued into November and is still trying to get a Trump Tower Moscow. It's his crowning achievement. But Putin won't give it to him ever. Trump is a stooge and a dick.

Trump’s expected return on running was the tower. He never expected to win and was shocked when he did. There were all kinds of reports from November 2016 about him being caught totally off guard that he won. Melania cried. https://www.businessinsider.com/melania-cried-when-trump-won-2018-1

Trump was horrified:  https://www.newsweek.com/mike-pence-donald-jr-and-melania-never-thought-trump-would-become-president-769701

He thought he’d lose and get the tower.

Feel like that Rudy interview is missing the main takeaway.

He’s openly admitting again that their tactic is to confuse the American people and muddy up the crimes. We all know that’s the case but they just openly admit it because it’s working for their base and they know they’ll be protected by Republican Senators.

He needs to be voted out in 2020 and then charged for these crimes. He won’t see justice otherwise

stop giving him this platform

His base doesn't care.  Not only was running for the Tower, he felt a campaign would enhance the Trump brand.  He would make millions or billions, just from running.

When Trump is lying in his prison cell, he will spend the rest of days regretting he ever ran for president.

He will never get his Trump Tower in Moscow. The "Trump" brand will become so toxic; it will be worth nothing.  Other than his cult followers, the myth of Trump will be forever shattered.  The rest of the world will be laughing at Trump. so sad. :) All his years of criminal activities will be exposed and land him in prison; eventually.  His fortune will be gone. There's a good chance, most of family could be behind bars with him. History will judge Trump, as a horrible abberation in American history.   No, Trump won't ever be forgotten.   Trump will be remembered as a warning of what could go wrong.   Whatever remaiming family members not in jail; will have to change their names.  The "Trump" name will be that toxic.

That will be the price, this asshole will pay.  Hopefully, the people who actually voted for him; suffer some misfortune also, for theor choice.
