Well, it is a proven successful technique.

When you're getting too much heat for ****ing something up, **** something else up.

Also admiring what passes for reasoning in the Trump administration.

You want to kill an investigation into something illegal you did.  The FBI won't kill the investigation, so you fire the head of the FBI.

This is called "obstruction of justice".  It's a crime.  This triggers an additional investigation.

You want to kill an investigation into the illegal thing you did, to cover up the illegal thing you did.  The AG won't kill the investigation, so you fire him.

Only Donald Trump (and the "best people" he surrounds himself with)  would fire the Attorney General to try to kill an investigation into whether he fired the Head of the FBI to try to kill an investigation.

Wondering if they were trying to force him to resign and he basically said "STFU NOOBS" and told them they'd have to fire him and they backed down. Remember that Trump himself isn't there, so it would likely be Kelly dealing with the situation and Kelly has a far more strategic mind than Trump (which isn't saying much since most bacteria are more strategic thinkers than Trump). Kelly would know what a ****storm firing Rosenstein would be and what a Pandora's box it would open as far as replacing him. If he resigned they could spin it easily and get backing from the GOP...firing would be more difficult to spin.

I wonder what they would have to offer him for him to resign?

He's been expecting to be fired for more than 6 months.

Honestly, I think Rosenstein knows the importance of his position.

Theory, (just a theory) is that:

- WH leaked McCabe memos and spun them to try and make Rosenstein look like a villain

- That mostly flopped

- Nonetheless, WH, probably through CoS Kelly reached out to Rod and had a HYPOTHETICAL conversation about resignation and terms and things, probably with Kelly doing most of the talking, using story as pretext to sort of run a "oh hey here's this embarassing thing on you, you can resign or we'll fire you" play.

- Rod didn't blink but maybe played along and talked terms, probably demanding things the WH would never give

- CoS Kelly still got his "Rod is considering resigning" talking point, which is what we saw this morning.

- That was floated to push Rod to resign before being fired, to show they meant business.

- Rod hasn't blinked so far.

- WH is backing off for the time being.

It looks like the WH is pushing that he resigned, while Rod has denied it and is expecting to be fired.

The goal, obviously, is going to be to shove in who they want.

How many of yall think the WH is above saying he resigned while actually firing his ass?

Not you @twa

So we wait until Thursday for Trump to demand Rosenstein bend the knee.

This is is a disaster for midterms if they fire him but I wonder if Trump has the patience or even general intelligence to wait that far

Trump doesn't fire people face to face, though. So Trump will meet with him, talk about how tough he is and how he's so good at getting to the bottom of things. Then the next shoe drops on the character assassination that started last week.

And then Trump has him fired while he's on the golf course next weekend.
