PCinOz
The Saints are thinking about slapping the franchise tag on him. From KFFL :

"Saints | More On Glover - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
9:24 PT: Updating an earlier story, the Associated Press reports the New Orleans Saints have decided against triggering a buyback option for 2002 in DT La'Roi Glover's contract. However, the team could slap him with the franchise tag, meaning he would not be an unrestricted free agent March 1. That designation must be made by February 21. "We have not used the franchise tag in a couple of years and that option still remains open," GM Randy Mueller said Tuesday."
gbear
would they save money doing this? Doesn't the franchise tag require them to pay him like a top 5 player at his position? Would he make that with with the option? Sounds like they are fishing for picks and gambling the increased hit to the cap to do so.
Art
Glover would be an expensive guy to pursue, but, exciting to ponder. I'm still fixed on a John Parella type, or even a Sam Adams at reasonable dollars. I'm not yet thinking about the stars like Owens or Glover. Too much temptation before the free agency period even starts .
NavyDave
Seems to me they would be paying alot more for him when you factor in Sapp money.

Parella, Joe Johnson brings wood, stability and frees up #19 for a DE end or the Guard from Colorado
Cskin
Interesting thought, but I'm a bit gun shy about big name DT's. We blew it with Stubby, and Daddy is just now coming around and playing up to his potential. Hate to see Glover come in via a huge contract and lay down on us.

Wouldn't it be nice to grab one of the stud DT in the draft, someone hungry who just wants to blow up the opposing offense's backfield? I'm definitely leaning towards a DE or DT in the first round, unless of course Carr or Harrington are there at #18. Even then, I might crinkle my nose and snear if Simms or K. Edwards or D. Johnson is also still there and we're drafting a rookie QB who will do little his first few years in the league.

I'm with ART, maybe Parella at a reasonable price might be the solution that allows our draft to click and net us the "need" players to stay competitive.....stay young.....and challenge for the east.
