Dungy to Colts

It's nice to see Dungy land so quickly on his feet in a situation in which he could experience some fast success. The Tampa situation is just a joke right now. They'll have to make quite a splash to salvage this blunder.

Really man, everybody knows Bucs can't play in cold weather. Aint no Bucs going to go up North, and if they do, their career will go downhill.

The best part of the Dungy story is that we won't have to hear that Diddley-Poo speech out of Indy every Sunday night.

PGA, the amount is reported to be 13.5 mil over the 5 years.

Dungy is a very, very popular choice of Peyton Manning's and Edgerrin James will love what he is bringing to an already solid running game that puts mucho points on the board.

Add a deep and medium range threat in Harrison, that works his a** off, and a now deadly Reggie Wayne, with a #3 in a now seasoned vet in Wilkins and you have a serious set of toys he didn't have in Tampa Bay. The difference being Dominic Rhodes and James as opposed to Dunn and Alstott.
All, and I mean All of the Colts RB and FB's can catch!

Oh Diddley Poo! Yes, it's the playoffs for these guys, I kid you not!

[ January 22, 2002: Message edited by: indyskinsfan ]

That's exactly right Hangman55, besides it being an AFC team. Dungy is familiar with the AFC, by way of Pittsburgh, as is Tom Mora the OC for the Colts, as Mora was his college QB coach while Dungy, in fact was a QB. They also teamed up in the Vikings scheme of things, producing solid teams. With Pittsburgh, they fielded the Steelers teams that made it tough to win in Three Rivers stadium and defense stayed a staple.

He and Mora are on the same page as was Gibbs and Pettibone on what a team should do and what coaches should do to maximize effectiveness.

This is a very unique development for the fickle Colts fans and I hope they realize what they have now.

Dungy actually is getting 13 mil, so my correction and it amounts to roughly a 2.6 a year deal. His heart is still at Tampa, sorry. That's why I think he also saw the value in staying away from being a common opponent or often one against Tampa Bay. Of course the all powerful, ever tinkering scheduler for the NFL may have the last word on that.

[ January 22, 2002: Message edited by: indyskinsfan ]

It will be interesting to watch how the Dungy Factor affects the offensive approach in Indy.

The one real criticism of Dungy over the years has been his inability to field an offense worthy of his defense; one capable of winning a title. What we've never really known, though, is to what extent his overall philosophy has played a part in that. Now that Dungy is in Indy, does the offense there take a different approach, and if so, to what extent?

I don't imagine we'll see too dramatic a change overnight, but I'd be willing to guess that over the next couple of years, we'll see a noticeable change. It may not rise to the level of putting Marty/Jimmy Raye in charge of the Rams offense, but you get my drift ...
