I love it, to me tshile is pretty much middle america in a lot of positions.  Just a very slight right sway.  I've seen him on this board be portrayed as a right wing nutter and on other boards we were on he was labeled a bleeding heart left winger.  I won't pretend to compare intelligence.  I just think the juxtaposition is informing!

Agreed. I think he is one of the more valuable posters in a lot of political discussions even though I disagree with him probably about 70% of the time.

I don't think he is a right wing nutter at all. He is def way more than just "very slight right," but he isn't hopeless like some of the crazies on this forum.

What I do think is he likes playing games with words and getting intentionally into intellectually dishonest convos to obfuscate from the real point.

You can keep worrying about me but I don't have time for your nonsense.

Another predictable deflection from you.

I'm not worried about you. But, I was hoping you'd show some honest thought so I could re-think and adjust my placing of you in the category of people who discard intellectual honesty when challenged. I find there to be benefit in trying to challenge my assumptions by asking questions that might give me new and different information.

Part of the stress people are dealing with in these times are the fact that a population of our country are reacting in emotionally unhealthy ways to threshold breaking violations of decency and integrity in this country. Even those who seem to have the mental capacity to behave otherwise. To deal with that type of stress in my life I try to understand the underlying mechanics, patterns, and deficiencies at play for that occurrence.

I would not be surprised if the "stopping a greater evil" crowd have basically set the red line at "literally using nukes" and nothing short of that.

Thankfully Mattis is supposed to be required to sign off on any nuke usage so it wouldn't surprise me if he basically has half a dozen people on speed dial in the White House to intervene if he ever gets the call from Trump.

In any event, someone put it best on Twitter.

What Trump is conducting is a slow motion Saturday Night Massacre.  He's getting everyone BUT this go around's Archibald Cox out, so presumably if/when he moves on "Cox" everyone else will have been removed first.  Then it's basically up to Congress and...uhhhhhhh....

So normalizing the fact that we have a president who thinks it's OK to revoke clearances for those that critique him. Maybe I'm ignorant, but I don't ever remember another president doing this, certainly without cause to do so like he is with Brennan.

Of course the GOP and DEMs should be livid about it, but certainly there will be tough talk from the Lindsey's Graham's of the world. They'll accept it and move onto the next thing. To me that is the most frustrating part of this presidency, away go the norms.

See, I think if you believe he is more than slight right your living in a somewhat insular world.  I always strive to be careful not to become to enamored of only hearing what I like.  Even if I walk way thinking, what a nut it's worth it to run across a few people with valid points I needed to hear.  I know everyone hates Trump voters in here, but I'm of the opinion there were 2 types.  Wall Street crew who wanted the tax cut and monetary policy they have gotten.  And people so despondent and hopeless they latched on to what they wanted to hear, and said what the hell it might happen, and if not it can't get any worse for me.

There is a segment of our population that has been left behind, ignored and left to die on the vine by globalization and destruction of union and consumer protections.  Their lashing out by voting Trump was bad for all of us, but to them they felt like they had nothing to lose as the Dem party wasn't addressing their needs either.

I'm not sure I could begin to solve this.  It's a huge problem that our fractured political process is in not position to even address.  It will take a lot of honest smart people working together to solve it, and we are far from that in todays climate.

Great now I'm depressed!! lol

so about the buffoonery---speaking of the title---going on in here and a number of the players

look at all the derailing from the stupid raising and extension of the democracy now and added obama bull**** and still continuing petty unintelligent bickering, all primarily OT

(p.s.you guys keep going after each other while i'm writing this---knock it off lol)

(btw, tshile, imv benning is hardly a "nut", but  then i don't really think you are, either )

benning---while there is worth in argument to your harsh criticism to noinney, TEG's suggestion you dial it back is a good one.  you've also been warned before about "defining" another member in totality "to the board" in ways that push rule 5.  because of the importance of the national reality we share and the actual events taking place, there is room for passion beyond the usual at times, but we still are in this specific forum and operate within that reality, too.  neither noinney's condcut or content qualify him to be shut up or totally dismissed (harshly critiqued, absolutely, as with anyone if merited). now i wrote that before you posted your reply to teg where you defend it. even though i knew the murphy ref, it came off to me like you telling him he needed to shut up.  if a time comes where he needs to "shut up", it would be a mod who'd decide such.

to another piece and the matter of "trolling" as seen through the eyes of various posters

Ax is one of the folks who left ES to go to BGO (absolutely fine of course), and yes he did his share of ****ing about this place (also more than fine) but still wanders over every now and then----not to talk redskins football or play with old-timers in long-running non-political tailgate threads etc---but mainly it seems to engage in tailgate political threads for a brief time and then departs. I noticed a couple days ago Ax was on one of his political drive-bys and i thought i'd pop over to see if he was still posting on his home site...now while I'd say Ax has long been easy enough to get a handle on (pun intended), politically, i'm adding a few most recent post excerpts from there to his recent posts here..the first page of 'recent activity'  was all football, and this is just as they show up in excerpt, no editing, and i'll explain why, after

There's no doubt that both sides are locked into their positions. But I think pinning the lions share of blame for the many problems we face, on the D's, is accurate, and warranted. The D's have no...

now i did that not because i thought anything said above was even remotely outrageous per your typcial rightwing dude, but to inform unfamiliar ES'ers with more context of his politics and also show he's posting here in the same manner he posts there....as with other examples i could have picked, trolling is often in the eyes of the beholder...that's why i encourage folks to read how we address this in how we wrote the rule....many cases could be called by any mod either way

so, regarding all of this, i'm pretty big on calling things out, no matter who/what...i think that's been clear over the years....and i favor it being done in here with such serious topics and events as are often covered in these threads....just keep in mind you're here, not somewhere else......and every now and then some folks might want to ask themselves whether at any particular time if they're really wanting to share space where there's competing views, or be in an actual discussion, perhaps even seeking new or differing data/facts/insight/perspective, or are other other more therapeutically-related motivations in play?

btw, if i were to call troll, i would say that the derailers/trolls sure did a great job given the willing participation in the proposed effort...forget trolling, geniuses of the right or left, if you think someone is just stupidly partisan in either direction, consider not engaging them at all other than a down-vote smiley...maybe try letting the stupid die from neglect...in many cases it's a workable option...anyways, cut the stupid

make no mistake who you're dealing with. i will take you all out.

p.s. don't reply to this post (OT)

you can use your smiley votes :P

I read his views on this forum, I think he is a traditional moderate Republican. There are people who are slight right, but he isn't that. That does not change what I said about him being intellectually dishonest at times and playing that game to move from the larger point people are making, which he did with the convo about Democracy Now.

I do agree that the Democratic party have left people behind and moved to the right as well and it's caused us to be here. Trump is the result of Nixon and Reagan Southern strategy, post-civil rights, post-feminist movement that has dominated this nation's politics the last 40-45 years (and whats nuts about this is that was only 10 years. People wanted and demanded rights in a loud and unstoppable fashion for just 10 years and then the backlash has been this for the last 45 years).  I also believe we are coming to a head with Capitalism but that will not happen in our lifetimes as we have been codified with iphones and internet porn, lol. You cannot keep starving people.

Will I get banned if I point out that we still need the down vote smiley?

Just to stay on topic.  Has a former CIA director ever been revoked the security clearance before?

Thats fair. I really said it as a joke, but I can see it being read that way. I never want anyone on a message board to shut up, but I also think we need to stop allowing misleading and lying to be acceptable discourse. It should never be that.

But my joke was too far and I accept that. Thanks.

I don't see the value of taking away Brenan's security clearance. I mean I guess it's fine as he no longer works there, but on the other hand, you lose the advantage of his ability to consult to the best of his ability. I'm sure he has a wealth of knowledge, strategies, and contacts that are invaluable, but it's not really possible for him to help they need to talk to him in generalities and "what if" scenarios.

The removal comes off as petty and without purpose, but also has the potential to create harm. Worse, it would've at least been nice for Trumps to consult Coates before doing it.

Today hasn't really been full of controversy. I'm guessing something is about to drop considering the original date of the Brennan memo.

Is the "n" word tape ready to drop or something in the Manafort trial? I'm guessing Manafort since there really isn't anything they could release that would supersede discussion about him saying the "n" word.
