Eh.  More correct to blame the liar who fed it to her.  (Who probably didn't know he was lying, either.)

Just my "paranoid about everything Republican" inner voice, speculating.

But anybody else think that these same appointees that Trump (and the entire GOP on Capitol Hill) want to put into the Fed, who think that it's perfectly fine for the Fed to be intentionally inflating economic bubbles because the GOP is in power, will also see no problem with the Fed intentionally harming the US economy, if they figure it will hurt the Dems?

Socialism is cool as long as you don’t call it socialism.

Probably 90% of them don't even know what actual socialism means. Remember the video of the lady who was a Trump supporter talking about being against Biden because he's a socialist, and then when asked why she thinks he's a socialist she said "because he's all about the money"? When your followers have a dangerous combination of ignorance, stupidity, and stubbornness you don't really have to even be any good at propaganda; you just have to say the same thing over and over.

Alot of people cant understand what socialism really is. To them it just means Burnie Sanders.

The dude who trained me at work thought exactly that. He asked me if I was ok with socialism, I asked him to define it (we have a good working relationship, so we were able to be frank with one another without getting defensive) and he couldn't. So i gave him reading material and a video to watch. He watched the video, told me he didnt really understand why someone would tell him Burnie is a socialist and not explain its deeper than that, and still said he is afraid of it, and stayed with his opinion.

But it showed to me that people really have no idea what it is. This is where public education could help fix this in just a few decades. But instead we are teaching kids that dinosaurs and people co-existed. Cause bible yallz

Democrats have been called "Socialists" as far back as FDR.  Probably even further back, I just can't recall ever reading up on it beyond that era.

I think the bigger problem with people like you mentioned is their lack of understanding of how the U.S. economy works in the first place.  It is, and has always been a "mixed bag" of a bunch of different ideas and philosophies that shift and react to what happens to be going on in the country and world at any given time. There has never at any time been a "and this narrow vision of economics will work 100% of the time, all the time" solution.

This false idea that "the invisible hand" and the word "capitalism" are some kind of holy grail for all that is right in the world is some Grade A  nonsense.  Yes lots of elements of capitalism contribute to society and make it great and desirable, but just like any other economic model if implemented in a pure way without checks & balances, tweaks, relief valves, fixes etc etc.....it is not going to work.

The issue with this fact, like so many other things nowadays, is that it's subtle and complicated; that doesn't fly anymore, especially with the GOP base. Everything is black or white, zero or one. They want simple solutions to complex problems, and that's when you have a lifelong con man like Trump come along and promise them that everything really is simple and that the solutions really are just as simple and that he's the only one who knows the simple answers to all the problems, and that those simple solutions also happen to fit in with their worldview that everyone is out to get them and there must be someone to blame for everything.

And if you try and explain to them that it's complex and requires a nuanced solution with compromises, they often immediately act with suspicion, if not outright hostility. As if YOU'RE the one who's actually trying to con them...not the actual, you know, con man.

Satan's attorney, here, for the defense.

I see a danger with people reciting that "Bernie doesn't want the government to take ownership of Ford, therefore he's not a socialist".

Because that's really close to the "Trump isn't a Nazi because the places he's locking people up in don't have gas chambers".  The notion of "as long as Person X isn't worse than Evil Y in every single way, then it cannot be pointed out that supporting Person X is a move in Evil Y's direction."

It's the "I'm not a racist, cause I don't think blacks should be slaves.  I just think it should be legal to discriminate against them." argument.

. . . .

There's nothing wrong or immoral with pointing out that a certain position is a move in a socialist direction.

Today is the 56th anniversary of the JFK assassination.  As a reminder, the President Dotard will spend his day locked in his room doing executive time things such as eating hamburders, drinking covfefe, and ogling womem on RussianBrides dot com.

What you are talking about is rational and nuanced conversation(s) though.  The people being brought up in this thread are more referring the portion of the public who listen and hear throw away conversations in passing on Fox or Breitbart headlines and then just repeat the words while lacking the fundamental knowledge to back up what they are claiming.  The "It is because it is" way of arguing.

There is a difference between saying "Bernie is a socialist, I hate socialism" and "I am not comfortable with Bernie's tendency to rely on government to be the first solution to a lot of the country's problems that I feel can be worked on & solved in other ways such as.........." or something along the lines.  The conversation can proceed after the second statement, after the first one there is really nowhere to go.

But I mean, that’s the definition of socialism... Government owned industry vs privately owned industry.

Oh and im not saying hes not a socialist. He clearly is, or at least emulates many of the characteristics. I say all the time PG country isnt the hood but it does have hood ass tendencies. Thats how I equate it in my hazy brain.

But people equate socialist with Venezuela immediately and think thats the goal. I just think more education can teach folks the difference between that and theory behind what it could be.

i dont know if im making sense to be honest. I could be misunderstanding this myself so feel free to correct me.

I know this has been brought up in the past few days here, the ideological war going on in the right between establishment figures and white nationalists. This was the whole Don Jr and his girlfriend having a meltdown on stage with Charlie Kirk because Nazi's shouted them down.

Well, good for everyone to know that Charlie Kirk has bent the knee and caved into everything the Nazi's were demanding he support in this utterly spineless and pathetic article he wrote: https://amgreatness.com/2019/11/21/clearing-the-air-on-the-right/#.XdgxiS4TWt9.twitter

If anyone wants to see the future of the Republican Party, be prepared for one that doesn't treat the marchers of Charlottesville as vermin, but rather as thought leaders and the next-generation.

^I mean, I can't say I didn't think this was coming. Trump and Trumpism is a lab rat experiment for what could come down the pile the next time a Republic nominee takes the helm. It's just going to be full blown Nazism.

Thar party is just too far gone down the rabbit hole to ever come back, not that they even deserve to.
