DONALD TRUMP 'THINKS HE'S A DICTATOR,' CNN GUEST CLAIMS, AS IRS MISSES PRESIDENT'S TAX RETURN DEADLINE

ulitzer Prize–winning journalist David Cay Johnston said that President Donald Trump was a dictator in the making, after the IRS missed a second House committee deadline to hand over Trump's tax returns.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal requested six years of the president's tax returns from the IRS. The latest deadline for the IRS to deliver the documents passed at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Neal’s previous deadline was April 10.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin wrote a letter to Neal, saying his department would make a decision on whether or not to release Trump's tax returns by May 6. Mnuchin said the Treasury Department was still consulting with the Justice Department on compliance.

“They can play this game for a while, but not very long,” Johnston told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Tuesday evening after the deadline passed, saying the Treasury Department would now use the letter of the law to delay what will eventually become a legal fight in the courts.

Johnston said the Trump administration was trying to argue in the case of Trump’s tax returns—and the many other requests for information, documents and witnesses from the White House—that Congress did not have an oversight function.

The Trump administration has refused to comply with the various House committees investigating the president, citing executive privilege and accusing Democrats of abusing their congressional powers. Democrats, however, said they had many legitimate concerns about the Trump presidency.

“What you're seeing is a dictator in the making,” Johnston told Cuomo, later adding: “Donald doesn't know what's in the Constitution, he thinks he's a dictator, and he's moving to turn this country into a Trump dictatorship.”

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told Fox News on Tuesday that Trump’s tax returns were still in audit at the IRS but once out, he would consider releasing them. The IRS has said that nothing prevents a president from releasing tax returns while under audit, reported PolitiFact. Richard Nixon released his tax returns while he was being audited, and Trump is the first president since Nixon to not release his tax returns.

Send the U.S. Marshalls to arrest everyone who refuses and jail them for Contempt of Congress. Show Trump and his minions the rule of law.

They are going to get away with it if the dens wait until the election to do anything about it though. And then the next guy will just do it better.

Is that what Holder and the Obama administration said when they were found in contempt?

Impeach him.

Holder et al actually produced 7600+ pages of requested documents and then still got held in contempt by the GOP House. 🙄

They fully complied. No obstruction. No collusion.

Do you care how many documents the Trump administration has produced?

So forget the executive privilege question regarding the tax returns, the fact that Trump is trying to sue or (or whatever) to stop his tax returns from being turned over sort of goes everything he has said before that he was okay with them being seen, just that they are "very complicated" and people wouldn't understand them.  We already know the "under audit" excuse was total nonsense.

So what exactly is Trump resisting this for?  I know the obvious answer, but lets suspend reality for a moment and pretend his taxes are a-ok, nothing shady about them,  what would then be Trump's reason for this?

For one they are requesting more than just the returns, such as IRS audit files....ignoring the obvious

He's definitely not resisting because he's scared of being caught for fraud or not paying taxes. He wouldn't care.

He just doesn't want everyone to know he's not as rich as he claims. (he's done it plenty of times before to get on Forbes)

He was resisting before any investigation though.

Here’s the thing about trumps taxes

not a single person that voted for him is going to give a crap. So long as he didn’t do anything illegal. He will be applauded for paying as little to the government as he could

at best theres embarrassing information about him not being as wealthy as he claims. I don’t see that moving the needle much just chapping his ass.

A lot of effort and outrage is being spent on a topic that even if the dems get their way has little to no upside (baring fraud). Seems like a waste.

Worse, dems could wind up looking silly when they go to claim victory and realize no one actually cares about the thing they worked so hard to get.
