Buddha
In reading about Coach Lewis's defensive approach, it seems to me that free safety is one of his most critical positions. Having as aggressive a defense as he runs means leaving the corners in extended man-to-man coverages, sliding the strong safety up to play as an extra linebacker frequently, and using the backers to sell out against the run. That means the free safety will be in single coverage often and will be the CBs' only backup.

What I see developing is a push to re-sign most of our current LB corps, adding a reasonably priced FA DT and drafting a pass rushing DE, but really spending the $$$ to upgrade that FS spot. Even though I like David Terrell and think he can develop into a fine DB in another season or two, you have to believe that Lewis will press to sign a ballhawking veteran-- possibly shooting for Lance Schulters, Kwamie Lassiter, or even Shaun Williams. Just like with his corners, he's going to want a guy that he can leave back there and forget about. Terrell could move over to Keith Lyle's role as the dime DB and refine his coverage skills.

Thoughts???

3...
Art
To be honest, in Terrell, I think we have the type of free safety who can be very good for Lewis. Terrell is gifted enough to play coverage in man situations and that is a rare skill for a safety. He's not a great player and isn't a sound tackling guy, but, if we can slide Shade up a lot, Terrell is a better fit than many players at that spot. OrangeSkin
I believe that Corey Harris, Marvin's safety from the Ravens, is a FA this year.
Buddha
I don't really question Terrell's coverage skills, and can see him performing well in man-to-man as you say. But I don't see him just yet being able to serve as a "rangy centerfielder" type that the CBs can count on to back them up.
Experience will bring the instinct over time, but I just don't see him having the skills to lean on in the meantime. He'd clearly be the weak link that I would try to exploit were I the opposing offense.

1 more!!!
RySkins
Terrell has decent coverage skills, as displayed two years ago when he played corner for us, but as mentioned, he too often fails to get over in time in deep coverage. I kind of like Terrell but I'd like to see an upgrade at free safety.
NavyDave
I like Terrell he was a decent cover corner and after a year at a new position should be fine.

Ohalete is a natural Safety so shouldn't we look at him prior to bringing in someone from outside. Gamebreaker
I don't think Corey Harris played all that well last season, he's solid nonetheless.

David Terrell needs to get a little bigger at FS. He's only around 190 and it shows, he got pushed quite a few times this season in making tackles. And a FS, you need a sure tackler or you'll be giving up a lot of plays.
