88Comrade2000
I'm borrowing this from another board I visit. Someone asked what were our biggest needs and how do we fill those needs?

I'll approach this two ways:

Way one: We trade/sign for Brunnel or Bledsoe.

1 QB- need filled by trading for one of those two. It will cost us at minimum a #1 and #3 and probably a 2003 pick also. We need to see if Brunnell gets cut. If he does and you want to go in this direction: you sign him.

2 WR- both free agency and draft
3 DE/DT- resign Lang, cut Bruce Smith after 6/1 and get a DT thru free agency. Marvin Lewis will help us recruit free agents on the defensive side. We can afford one big FA signing since we need to resign Lang.
4 OG- draft
5 S- possible free agency if we have any money left, or thru the draft

Way Two: We want to draft a qb for Steve to groom and we sign/trade for a caretaker QB like Jeff Blake.

Personally I doubt Jeff blake would cost much. He was a backup. He may just be cut.

1 QB- filled thru draft and trade/free agency. If we trade up, then we could lose a third rounder and maybe even a 1st rounder in 2003. Or we could draft a QB at #18 or in second round.

The rest are the same.

Basically what the Skins do at QB will determine how we approach free agency, possible trades and the draft.

I think we can filled DE by resigning Lang and then cut Smith after June 1st. We can make DT our big free agent signing.
Buddha
If we re-sign most of our LB corps, DT may NOT be our big free agent signing. He may look for a widebody like Sam Adams (a possible cut if the Ravens go to a 3-4 defense) or other moderately priced UFA to help control the line of scrimmage for the backers to come up and attack. Once the DT hole is filled, Lang can go back to LDE and Coleman to RDE with Bruce playing only on long downs. Leverette or a rookie would serve as the developmental DE.

With frugal spending on the line, the Skins can then spend bigger bucks on an upgrade at the weaker of their three LB spots depending on where they envision LaVar playing most of his time. Lucky for us the LB pool is fairly deep so prices should be kept at a minimum.

...only 2 more!!!
NavyDave
Blake sounded like he was hoping to be cut to sign here which means hewould come here with a very cap friendly contract.

I'm against Bledsoe because an immobile QB in the NFC East only helps opposing teams pad their sack stats.
