Guest fuji869
I just saw a bit on Sports Center about how the Ravens seem to be falling apart only 13 months after wining the Super Bowl. Tony Siragusa retiring, Jamie Sharper will probably go to Houston in the expansion draft, Shannon Sharpe might not be back, the doubts of Elvis Grbac leading the offense and finally losing the architect of that great defense Marvin Lewis who just signed with our beloved Washington Redskins.

Could not have happened to a classier organization. If this turns out to be true I bet the fans in Cleveland will be loving the fall of Baltimore Ravens!

[ February 11, 2002, 07:44 PM: Message edited by: fuji869 ]

There's a very good Browns message board at the official team site, and they have a thread about the Lewis situation. You can check it out at http://browns2000.digiknow.com/ubb-browns/Forum4/HTML/009303.html

[ February 11, 2002, 07:56 PM: Message edited by: Fitzman ]
OrangeSkin
It's even sweeter for Cleveland fans, because they have a team on the rise. Could the Browns beat the unbeatable Ravens? BUWHAHHAHAHA!!!!!
Uptown Skins
I read the Browns board. Good going Fitzman. Way to represent us Redskin fans. Your post was of nothing but true class.

This extremeskins.com is fast becoming the ONLY reason I log on to the NET.
indyskinsfan
Well here's one guy, that Marvin Lewis already shut up. See we can only speculate why people do what they do. Marvin Lewis is an emotional man and he had some personal family situations and career ironies at the same time. HE is the the MAN of HIS house and what he says is important to the most importan people in his life! His family!

This guy writes in the Baltimore Sun like Beatmo' is some kind of hangout where they walk the street do-woping and crap. Hey, Marvin has no creditability problem, because from this guy's own writing, he anti-uped to what it was. Yes it was the money, but it was something else, under the surface that no matter how much they said they needed Marvin, they didn't anti-up. Oh when you have the number 1 and 2 defenses back to back you're "Special" not just any DC you can get anywhere. OH,, LOL with Mike Nolan!!!

http://www.sunspot.net/sports/football/bal-sp.preston11feb11.column?coll=bal%2Dsports%2Dfootball
PCS
Well they should. When it comes right down to it, Modell was too cheap to keep the best in town with him, at a time when he may need him most. I mean, this is a business as well as sport isn't it? It has been, IMHO, clearly demonstrated that good coaches are not that easily found, and certainly great ones are even more rare. Much like the players. About time coaches(the good ones) are properly compensated.
Glenn X
quote:
According to a league source, Snyder kept the pressure on and was embarrassed by stories in The Sun yesterday saying he lost out on Lewis.

Dear Mr. Preston, does it make you feel better to make such claims? Does it give you a greater sense of pride about your newspaper and your city, to think that Daniel Snyder up in Washington, D.C. actually has the time to read your lil' publication from your moderately sized media market? Of course, it does. Well, whatever floats your boat, eh?

Now onto your patently inaccurate statements, Mr. Preston...
quote:
Snyder has himself a nice coach, but he is blowing salaries out of control. Lewis' new deal will become a barometer for other assistants.

According to Dan Daly of the Washington Times, which hasn't exactly been a bastion of pro-Redskins sentiment since Dan Snyder took over: "Don't get too caught up in the size of his [Marvin Lewis'] contract. Contrary to popular belief, it really doesn't blow the salary scale for assistant coaches to smithereens. The salary scale for assistants has already been blown to smithereens — by the Jets, who paid Bill Belichick $3.25 million over three years to be their defensive coordinator in the late '90s. The Redskins are merely acknowledging that, under certain circumstances, coordinators deserve to make as much money as some head coaches."
quote:
On Saturday night, the Ravens offered Lewis a new two-year contract with incentives that could have paid him $800,000 a season. It was a good deal, and Modell made a wise decision by not trying to match the Redskins. Coordinators aren't worth that much.

Once more, the aforementioned Dan Daly respectfully disagrees: "Frankly, I've never understood how clubs could pay backup quarterbacks $1 million a year — and coordinators half that (if not less). It's ridiculous. But times are changing in the NFL. The wealth is beginning to trickle down to the people who pull the all-nighters and make everything work."

[ February 12, 2002, 04:38 AM: Message edited by: Glenn X ]

Brave
I have a couple of close friends that are avid Brown fans and sweeping the Ravens last season was the best thing they've been through since getting the team back. It made the late-season fade much easier for them to take. The Ravens seem to have replaced, or at least equaled, Pittsburgh as the team to hate for Brownie fans. Understandably so.
