Reaganaut
After thinking about this, Marvin Lewis' street value now starts at 1.3 million per year when he becomes a head coach. If he would have stayed in Baltimore he would have possibly only gotten 1.3 million as a rookie head coach. In the days of 5 million dollar contracts, Lewis could fetch two to three times his Redskins salary on the open market if the year is lean on coaches. So, it wasn't just about the money this year, it was about the future too. I think his stock has just appreciated by 100%. His agent should be patted on the back to convince Lewis to screw the Ravens. This was a fantastic deal.
NavyDave
Now that you think of it Danny Corleone is smart because why would Marv take minimum pay to become a head coach?

Marv makes almost twice as much as the head coach for Minnesota. Reaganaut
My post could've been clearer.

Marvin's Salary in Baltimore: $800,000 max

1st Year head coach (likely): $1,000,000

Marvin's Salary in Washington $1,300,000 max

1st year head coach (likely) $2,000,000 +
bulldog
I think you also have to factor in at some point Lewis and his wife were like "let's get what we can now" after waiting the past two years to get a HC job and increase in salary.

As you mentioned Snyder has now raised the bar on hiring Lewis (and some other assts as well) as Head Coaches, and Marvin is likely to benefit in the future when his agent negotiates his next job.

But, to the present. The Bucs mistake is OUR opportunity. Right now the organization has to feel pretty good considering that before last weekend the options on the table were Bill Bradley and perhaps Gunther Cunningham
BCS:BraveCaringSoul
Hmmm?? Well the other side to that argument is that his salary may actually shy some teams away from him. There are many teams that (unlike the Skins thank god) let the bean counters rule their staffing decisions.

I don't think a Bidwell type owner would be willing to pay the 2 million plus it would take to nail down Lewis.

Even so any way you look at it Lewis made the correct business decision for his family and his professional future.
