That's a gorgeous iguana! A rather large one, but awesome! But they don't get along with cats, so that's out...damn.

About 5 feet long head to tail. Biggest one of about 20 we saw catching the late morning Sun outside a small mangrove right off the parking lot of the Theater of the Sea.

Florida Atlantic University Fires James Tracy, Professor Who Questioned Sandy Hook Massacre

A Florida professor who has publicly doubted whether the 2012 massacre of children in Newtown, Connecticut, really happened was fired this week.

James Tracy, who teaches communications and mass media at Florida Atlantic University, was told of his termination on Tuesday night, the school said in a statement. He declined to comment to NBC News, saying his lawyers advised him to stay quiet while negotiating with the school.

His removal followed years of controversy over Tracy's off-campus writings, including a personal blog, in which he has questioned the killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School and other mass shootings. The case has raised questions about free speech and academic freedom, and whether Tracy crossed the line from saying something unpopular to doing actual harm.

The firestorm culminated with allegations of harassment by one the parents of one of the children killed at Sandy Hook.

Last month, Lenny and Veronique Pozner, whose 6-year-old son was among 20 children killed at the school, wrote an op-ed in a Florida newspaper saying he'd sent them a certified letter demanding proof their boy ever lived. The Pozners said they complained to the police.

A few days later, Florida Atlantic sent Tracy a letter saying it was taking steps to fire him.

Granted, I am often forced by reality to conclude that there are people out there who really are that dumb.

But I have to say that, if I got a certified letter demanding that I prove that my dead child ever existed, my overpowering assumption would be that the letter was sent by somebody else, for the purpose of smearing the "sender".

Police: Florida father smothers 6-year-old son while playing video game

...

Detectives later interviewed Dearman’s girlfriend, Ashley Cole, who said that she and Dearman live together at the home. Cole told detectives that at 7:30 p.m., the couple told the two children to go to bed. The children sleep on the floor with blankets in a separate bedroom.

Cole said the children would not go to sleep and ran around the bedroom. She said that Dearman got up from the couch and forced both children to stand facing the wall. Cole said that the 6-year-old boy was caught watching her and Dearman play video games. Dearman then became angry and put the boy on the couch.

Cole said Dearman forced the boy to lie on his side on the couch with his face against the rear couch cushions. She said Dearman then pinned the boy against the couch using his bodyweight. The boy was screaming that he could not breath and was trying to free himself.

Detectives say Dearman ignored the boy’s pleas and he and Cole continued to play video games.

After five minutes, the boy became motionless. Dearman and Cole then went to the garage to smoke a cigarette and left the boy on the couch.

Ten minutes later, the pair returned from the garage and saw the boy lying on the couch. Cole saw that the boy’s lips were blue and he was not breathing. Cole ran into the garage to pray, according to an arrest affidavit.

Dearman called 911 and attempted to perform CPR until paramedics came.

Detectives later interviewed the dead child’s sibling, who witnessed the alleged abuse. When asked about the victim, the sibling responded, “When dad squished him, he got dead,” according to the affidavit.

If it wasn't sad it would be funny, there will be a river or lake and they'll have a little line of floats that "define" the swimming area.. lol  The Gators have trouble reading apparently but the humans don't seem to care.. I love the water, but that's why I have a boat AND a pool..

The trial of a Florida man accused of killing his wife and then posting a photo of her corpse on Facebook resumed Friday. Derek Medina, 33, of South Miami, is accused of killing 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso in August of 2013.

State prosecutors allege Medina,”an undefeated, 200-pound amateur boxer who was much larger than his 5-foot-6 wife,” killed Alfonso because she threatened to leave him. His Facebook post, state’s attorney Leah Klein said, was his way of “claiming victory.” Medina admitted to the shooting in the posting, claiming his wife had assaulted him.

Medina is countering that he uploaded the photo in an attempt to show family what allegedly happened: That Alfonso pulled out a knife after the two began arguing. After supposedly disarming his wife, she attacked him again. Medina’s defense attorneys are also claiming Alfonso abused drugs, battered her husband, and was involved in Satan worship.
