A sinkhole turned out to be an underground tunnel to a Florida bank

(CNN)Public works employees in Florida stumbled upon something they don't see every day: a small "claustrophobic" tunnel leading to a Chase bank, according to the FBI.

The Pembroke Pines public works employees responded to a report of a possible sinkhole near the bank on Flamingo Road on Tuesday night and discovered the tunnel, which was about 50 yards long, with a power cord inside and a small generator at the foot, the FBI said Wednesday.

"It's approximately 2-foot, maybe 3-foot in diameter. It's very small, it's very claustrophobic," FBI Miami Special Agent Michael D. Leverock told reporters.

The tunnel was near a wooded area south of the bank, which is in a shopping complex across the street from the tunnel's entrance. The tunnel didn't reach the bank, the FBI said, adding that it is investigating the discovery as an attempted bank burglary. No arrests have been made.

"They're heading towards the ATM. I don't think they were doing that for any other reason," Leverock said.

Teenage girl steals pizza delivery driver's car to visit boyfriend

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - A teenage girl stole a pizza delivery driver's car early Wednesday morning in Lehigh Acres, deputies said.

Josie Bigelow, 14, is accused of stealing the driver's car as he was outside completing a delivery to a house at 2501 3rd Street Southwest shortly after midnight.

The driver, identified as 49-year-old Christopher Cook, told deputies he saw a person come out from the woods as he was walking to the house's front door. The person then got into his car and drove through the front yard and along a canal before getting away.

Eventually, an aviation unit spotted the car pull into a driveway on Sebring Circle, according to an incident report. That's where deputies found Bigelow, about six miles away from where the car was taken.

The girl's father said his daughter ordered the pizza so she could steal the driver's car to visit her boyfriend.

Port St. Lucie private school operator facing charges for allegedly stealing land from dead people

Alan Weierman, the man running a private military school in Port St. Lucie that has been investigated by the Department for Children and Families for 48 child abuse allegations, is now facing 148 felony charges in Osceola County for allegedly forging the signature of dead people and signing their land over to himself.

It started with a tip to Detective Cody Wood with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

“It just blew up into something bigger than any of us thought it would be,” Wood said. “He probably had over 35 different properties to his name and I was like, 'My lord, each one of these are going to end up being stolen.' ”

Wood said he has never seen any case like this before.

After he received the tip, he pulled all the land owned by Weierman on the property appraiser’s website. Then he started contacting the people who supposedly signed over the land to Weierman.

“When I got a hold of the family members, they were telling me that these people had been deceased for, some like up to 30 years,” Wood said.

Weierman is facing 148 felony charges for forging the signatures of dead people to obtain their land and then selling the properties illegally.

“We haven’t seen anything like this,” Wood said. “It’s something new. It’s actually really bold to do because anyone who would look into this, not even from law enforcement but really anyone, would see that he obtained this fraudulently.”

Weierman is also running the Southeastern Military Academy in Port St. Lucie. The school has been investigated by DCF for 48 child abuse allegations since 1994.

Of the 28 reports Contact 5 was able to review, 16 had substantiated findings.

Florida Man Murdered His Wife—Then Whacked Her Whole Family: Police

A 25-year-old Florida man is accused of murdering his wife, then impersonating her in text messages for nearly a year to hide his alleged crime. But when the woman’s family grew suspicious of him, police say, the man bludgeoned her parents and brother to death with a hammer inside their Tarpon Springs home.

Shelby John Nealy is facing murder charges for the heinous killings, which authorities believe occurred just days before Christmas. Police say Nealy’s wife, 21-year-old Jamie Ivancic, with whom he had two young children, was likely killed in January 2018.

On New Year’s Day, police discovered the bodies of Laura Ivancic, 59, her husband Richard Ivancic, 71, and their son, 25-year-old Nicholas Ivancic, during a welfare check. The body of Jamie Ivancic was found buried behind a Port Richey home days later and showed signs of “violent blunt force trauma,” police said.

‘Intimate’ acts in hot tub prompt gunfire

MARTIN COUNTY — What to do when you spy folks engaging in “intimate” activities in a hot tub?

Grab your gun and start shooting

That’s what Robert Hakins, 64, is accused of Jan. 19 at an undisclosed address in Martin County, an arrest affidavit states.

A woman told Martin County sheriff’s deputies after 11 p.m. that she, Hakins and a “friend” were in a hot tub on a back patio.

She said Hakins went inside to go to sleep, while she and the “friend” stayed in the hot tub.

The woman said she and the “friend” got “romantic” in the hot tub and that Hakins saw them.

She said Hakins started yelling. Hakins went in the home as her “friend” grabbed his stuff. She said Hakins came out with a gun and fired shots into the patio screen. She also said Hakins hit her.

A Florida politician allegedly made a habit of licking men’s faces. She has now resigned.

It was supposed to be a fun, lighthearted alternative to typical government meetings, and one befitting a laid-back beach town. The city commission of Madeira Beach, Fla. — a coastal community of nearly 4,500 situated on a barrier island facing the Gulf of Mexico — had decided to hold a special outdoor meeting during the King of the Beach fishing tournament in November 2012. The main order of business: honoring a sister city in the Bahamas.

But things quickly got out of hand at the meeting, according to a report from the Florida Commission on Ethics. By her own admission, Nancy Oakley, a city commissioner in Madeira Beach, had done some drinking at the fishing competition. She spotted Shane Crawford, the city manager at the time, and Cheryl McGrady, his executive assistant. The two would later marry, but were in relationships with other people at the time. Oakley suspected them of having an affair.

Using expletives, she demanded McGrady, who was supposed to be acting as deputy city clerk and taking the minutes, be removed. Then, after the otherwise low-key meeting concluded, Oakley walked up to Crawford again. She allegedly licked his neck and the side of his face, slowly working her way up from his Adam’s apple, and groped him by grabbing at his crotch and buttocks.

McGrady, who had been standing there the entire time, told Oakley that her behavior was inappropriate. According to the report, Oakley threw a punch at the woman, but missed.

It wasn’t an isolated incident, Crawford told Bay News 9 last month. Oakley had a “habit of licking men that either she was attracted to or thought that she had authority over,” he said. He wrote in a 2017 complaint to the ethics board that Oakley had made unwanted advances toward other city staff, too, and that they were “not interested in enduring that type of treatment ever again.”

Wife Stabbed Husband to Death After He Joked About Hiding the Knives: Cops

A Florida mom is accused of murdering her husband—a former Memphis Grizzlies executive—and waiting until the next morning to call police. Police say she claimed her spouse stabbed himself during an argument, then had a heart attack.

An arrest affidavit paints a gruesome picture of a crumbling marriage turned deadly at the couple’s $1 million, lakefront home in Orange County.

Before Michael was killed, he joked to a friend that his wife “is crazy but as long as I hide the steak knives everything will be fine,” the document states.

Florida leads nation in deadly crashes involving drivers over 65

The wrong pedal at the wrong time.

That’s what Gainesville police say caused a 92-year-old man to crash his car into a Jason’s Deli in December – killing a woman who was eating inside.

While police investigate that crash, just this week authorities say a 65-year-old woman drove her car into a Beef O’ Brady’s in Spring Hill.

Six people were seriously injured in that crash.

Crashes involving senior citizens are common in Florida given the high concentration of retirees, “things don’t work like they used too as far as your eyes and your hearing and your flexibility.” said Lt. Patrick Riordan with the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Department of Transportation says Florida leads the nation in deadly crashes involving people 65 years and older and Alachua County is one of the top 10 urban priority counties in the state.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/florida-man-ends-standoff-after-police-offer-him-pizza

A Florida man accused of threatening his family by texting them Coldplay lyrics, and warning them of retribution from his “Nazi prison associates” was persuaded by police to end a standoff in return for a fresh slice of pizza, reports say.

Evan Charles McLemore, under the belief that SWAT team negotiators were ready to hand him one of America’s favorite foods, was taken into custody Tuesday following a 4-hour confrontation at a Pensacola home.

"Never underestimate the power of pizza with flavored crust," the Pensacola Police Department wrote on Facebook, while adding officers “cannot comment on the rumors about pineapple being on said pizza - Operational Security and all that.”
