Spurrier like a Fox

Now I know why we suffered through all those wide receiver screens all season - the ones that worked once every 5 or 6 times thrown. Steve has been setting up the opponent all year to use that double pass play that won the game. He picked the perfect time to use the trick play - with a key game on the line. Give the old Ball Coach some props.

Czaban made me laugh this morning. He said going for it on that fourth down was like the guy at the blackjack table showing 19. The doofus says "hit me", and he draws a deuce.

Nobody, but NOBODY thought we should have gove for that, but it won the game. SOS put his whole NFL career on the line with that one call. It could have been a Grady Little moment for him.

its true, if we got stuffed, most of us would of been pissed.

But at 3-5 with Seattle able to move the ball well enough to get into FG range....it was the thing to do. A boost.......a message to the team and the OL which is overcoming poor Helton-Type coaching, that he belives they can get that yard.

Either way, there is no reason from this point on that ever game shouldn't be filled with trick players. We're still far enough back that its worth a shot.

SS had some great calls yesterday; however, I still don't know what he was thinking on that fourth down play.

Just like the announcers said during the game. It was a very slow developing play. With that short of distance, I would have liked to have seen a QB sneak on a quick count.

All in all, we made the first down so it really doesn't matter I guess.

I think the WR screen has been very effective. It almost always seems to be good for at least 5 yards.

It's like an extended handoff. It gets the ball out to them in space. If he can get through some defenders, it can go a long way. It also keeps the other guys from crowding the middle (in theory). All in all though, you have to look at it like a running play. A guaranteed 5 yards isn't too shabby in that case. It's not very risky and can have a big payoff. You'll notice a lot of teams running this play now, in some form or another.

It's also a statement that he believes his Defense must not be up to the job.:2cents:
