I don’t think it is too smart for democrats to engage in this, except maybe to point out how much desantis et al are spending.

I don’t think they can say anything else that is a win for them. This is issue of emotions, not logic. You aren’t going to convince anyone using logical arguments, so why bother.

Oh, there is a **** ton they could say, especially that will motivate even more of their base to get out and vote and to sway independents to prefer leadership change to more idiotic DeSantis shenanigans. Florida voters with no party affiliation now prefer the democratic candidate something like 52% to 39%...

I'll also go on record: there will be soooooo much more info that comes out regarding this idiocy that will put DeSantis, Florida and Texas in a harsh light and legal trouble. Trust me, it's coming. Not "I hope it's coming" or "If there's any justice it's coming"...it's beyond obvious now.

If you start seeing a bunch more "Hunter's laptop!" tweets be prepared lol...

From what I can tell from my admittedly limited experience with republicans on twitter, their current plan of attack is:

- Claim that this just goes to show that liberal elites only want "diversity" where republicans are, not where they live (this is probably the main point they are making, and I think was the goal of DeSantis' stunt)

- Claim Biden does the same thing all the time as DeSantis (this is the other main point)

- Claim the residents of Martha's Vineyard couldn't wait to get rid of the "illegal immigrants"

- Claim that since they were taken to a nice location everyone should be cool with what happened

- Claim that they all signed a waiver so everything is legit and above-board

- Claim that this proves sanctuary cities are just a "made-up term" and doesn't mean anything

One guy tried telling me that sanctuary cities were only created when Trump was president. When I pointed out sanctuary cities were being created back in the 80s he dropped it and instead asked if I'd be cool with letting "illegal immigrants" stay in my home lol...

The absolute worst thing that Democrats, or really anybody, could consider doing right now, or really ever, is following the advice or guidance of KirkCowgirl.

That would be a tragic self-own of the highest order.  Do literally anything else.

Still better than taking the advice of a used Mazda salesman…

“it may be high mileage and smell like death but it’s still got plenty of life in it, I swear”

I agree with you on this. I think the democrats should stay focused on what

they are doing and not what they aren’t doing.

The issues with the border go way beyond one president and the solutions probably require more that what one president can do and really probably more than anything the United States can do alone… That said, Biden’s answer on why his presidency was having the highest immigration numbers was pathetic. “The came from different places than before” just doesn’t play. If that is his defense for “failed” immigration policy I don’t see the advantage in engaging in it.

Fox/Yahoo: DeSantis’ office hits back after class action suit from migrants, reveals 'consent form' they allegedly signed

My favorite part:

Quote

In a statement provided to Fox News, Gov. DeSantis’ spokeswoman Taryn Fenske, slammed the class action lawsuit as "political theater" perpetrated by "opportunistic activists" at the expense of illegal immigrants.

A spectacular backfire? Ron DeSantis might have unwittingly helped migrants obtain special visas

The estimated 50 migrants who were flown last week to Martha’s Vineyard on planes charted by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis may have a strong case to receive special visas as a result of the stunt, says a prominent immigration lawyer.

By having enticed the migrants to board the planes until false pretenses, those who lured them – including DeSantis – committed crimes that could qualify the migrants as victims under human trafficking laws, Elizabeth Ricci, whose practice is based in Tallahassee, Fla., told Raw Story.

“Massachusetts officials are looking into criminal action against Ron DeSantis, which would be helpful because that means they would also be willing to sign off that these were, in fact, victims of crime by having been transported under false pretenses”, Ricci said. “Law enforcement does need to sign off for purposes of U Visa eligibility, which is what I believe these immigrants are eligible for. So that's encouraging.”

A U Visa is a special non-immigrant status established by the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Prevention Act of 2000. It was designed to protect immigrants who were victimized by crimes, and Ricci said this case falls directly under the definition of trafficking. Enforcement can come at the federal, state or local level, she said.

I personally think anyone who wants to enter and does so at a legal crossing point should get a visa. I also think anyone currently here illegally must turn themselves in, give the chance to have a background check done and if they pass it are then made legal. After a certain period of time - say 1 year if you are found to be here illegally you are deported.

this would Give everyone here the chance to stay. And then allow someone not known by the government to be deported

@tomwvr I like that. Maybe more than a year just cause that seems like a harsh penalty when a lot of outreach is needed. But generally I like the idea.

what’s the point of an immigration process if it takes so many years a large portion don’t bother with it?

it’s better if we just have an idea how many are out there and where instead of playing the game of how strong the response was. The immigration process seems like a giant suck of resources for no actual gain.

i’m not saying open borders but the system should at least encourage using the system.

My great grandmother on my moms side came through ellis island and my other great grandparents came through other east cost entry points pre world

war 1.

my dads family both came here early on in the english colonial period

we need to know who is entering, test for medical issues and allow people in that pass some minimal requirements.
my great grandmother was almost sent back due to her sponsor being late arriving in new york.

and the 1 year was just a made up time - i really dont know the proper time frame but we need to do something to know who is here.
