GURU
Actually, today's offense was was a little different today than we've seen the past couple of games. The long ball wasn't there much. The longest completion was 29 yards. But the offense looked much more effecient, overall. The 11-17 third down completion was the best yet. 153 yards passing. 2 TDs. 65% completion rate. 9 different receivers caught passes. The long passes weren't clicking, but the short passes and the running game kept the chains and the clock moving. Sounds pretty classic WCO to me. Mickalino
The long ball wasnt there because Banks couldnt hit it today. I counted 6 passes where he vastly overthrew or underthrew the long ball or end zone balls, mostly with a wide open man on the other end
Sailor
I agree Guru. I think that this is the offense Marty had in mind all along. The difference is that the players are executing. And what about Jimmy Raye. The guy has some imagination after all.
redman
Mick- that's what's nice about our team. The QB can have a day where his strength - long passes - just aren't happening and we're still dominant on offense. Credit Davis and the O-line, who never seem to get totally shut down unless it's by their own offensive coordinator. ------------------ "Loosen up, Sandy baby. You're just too damn tight!" - John Riggins to Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor ---------------------- "I fear we've awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve." - Japanese Imperial Admiral Yamamoto, after hearing that the Japanese declaration of war failed to reach the U.S. government before the attack upon Pearl Harbor
Larry
GURU, you're likely right. I tend not to notice how many passes were over/under 15 yards. What I notice is 30 carries by Davis, as opposed to 9.

GURU
Larry, those little 5 yard passes can make Davis even more effective. I'm not saying to pass the ball every time on first down, but at 2nd-and-five, defenses can't crowd the line-of-scrimmage as much. It gives Davis more room, and keeps the defenses guessing a little more. Sailor said the buzz word: execution. That's the key. Power running and the long ball are natural fits for this personnel, but defenses will begin to adjust. The execution of the bread-and-butter plays in the WCO today is very promising. They really kept the Seahawks defense on their heels. I hope to see continued improvement.
Art
This was NFC East offense, not the WCO. Why? Because we ran for 230 yards. The deep passes weren't clicking, but, we threw them, and that's a difference from early. We went with misdirection and actually utilized play design to get people open. That's a difference. This team is waking up some. It's still got some very visibible flaws, but, the coaching errors have ceased being fatal and are starting to slip to our advantage. This team changed in a very fundamental way. We are now a running football team. That's good enough to win games. Had we started off with this style, we'd be very happy about where we are right now. As it is, we are still disappointing, but, we are disappointing with a rocket . ------------------ Doom is in the box.
