Utah
Cheap fill ins who could be out to prove something? Just thoughts. When a player gets a wake-up call, be it injury or lack of playing in a system, you never know how that player could react and what benefits he can produce.

Classic example, Ki-Janna Carter. PCinOz
Would you put Eric Swann in that group?
Montilar
Cheap as in vet minimum. In the case of Tre at least. His contract would have to include an injury clause for any cent more than minimum.

Wadsworth could be worth a look-see to look into but again it'd have to be cap friendly. Utah
No Eric Swann. His injury was always career ending, he was just too stupid (or smart) too publically admit it.

I am looking at guys who can produce at very low cost. I think those 3 would be nice grabs with little impact on the cap but with the understanding that if they make the roster and can take roles that produce, we'll give bigger contracts based on that. Gives us some vets in certain areas and in Wadesworth's case, he could be on a mission to show he was worth the high pick. I know he had a serious knee injury, but I also remember Terry Allen.

Again, just thoughts.
Riggo-toni
I have to ask a stupid question - Where is Tre these days? I assume he got hurt again. Was it the knee as always?
bulldog
what you want to end up with is a player like Jimmy Smith that suffered early career injury problems but then went on to be a pro bowl caliber player that lived up to his potential in spite of it all.

the only trouble is those players are the real exceptions. the NFL is an unforgiving place.
most players that end up with serious injuries never make it all the way back.

In Tre's case, 2001 was the third or fourth season where he has been shelved for just about the the entire schedule. At age 30, Johnson has chronic knee problems that are not going to improve.

And even in regards to Carter we don't know how far back he really is. Yes, he ran the ball 64 times as a backup and change of pace player, but that is a far cry from asking him or another 'comeback' type player to put in starting minutes or make a major contribution.

Jacquez Green to me doesn't belong in this category because his problem has not been injuries but the fact at his size he has trouble getting off the line as a WR and has questionable hands (as we saw in the TB game at Fedex in 2000).

No, Green comes up short on the talent scale for the NFL. That is completely different from Tre and others that DO have the talent, they just don't have the endurance.

[ February 11, 2002, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: bulldog ]
NavyDave
I'm hoping a cheap fillin is named Sam Adams.

You can't always get bargains from K Mart that become valuable so we have to also find those gems in the second day of the draft as well.

This past year we have nothing to show for the second day of the 2k2 draft unless D Mac survives.

We lucked out with a couple of undrafted Rookies, Pierce, Ohalete and maybe Brandt but we are going to need a lot more of this
Ryman of the North
it was his shoulders that ended his last season for us although tre has knee problems as well but at the vet min hes better than any guard on the roster!
Braves On Warpath
Tre is in Cleveland and under contract. I have not heard any rumors that he will be released as the Browns do not have to cut players for cap reasons.

If Tre is cut by the browns, its probably for a good reason. A shame to be sure, Tre was one of my favorite players. He just could not stay healthy.
WolfDawg
TreJ is a fee agaent here this year, I hope we resign him, he has said he wants to stay with the Browns.

But any contract would have to be incentive based.
indyskinsfan
Oh Montilar you old dawg
Injury clause.

Tre' in a passing offense, with those legs, I don't think so. but obvious run (not under Spurrier) won't make it either. Last year would have a been a good time for him to be back with the Skins. Running, when we did would have been beautiful on those pulls, if he could still do it the way Stephen needed it.

Davis speed is still there and he should be at his peak this coming spring.

I think they will look somewhere else for that versatile guard.

Yes Sam Adams is on the list, I believe, but he won't come cheap, not over the top either. Should he arrive, we would see an INSTANT return on the D-Line with Bruce possibly coming in, in spurts, while Lang could start. Adams though, may wind up being in a mood to go elsewhere, thanks to the Godfather up I-95.

[ February 12, 2002, 05:36 AM: Message edited by: indyskinsfan ]
Dr. D
While those names all evoke the "potential" debate.

The name that should be the focus is Adams.

That ,my god, would go a long way.
