Good thing gun sales are up.  We clearly need more people like these to have guns:

Here was my first post about possible solutions from the Oregon thread:

I'm a gun owner, and I'm open to stricter laws/regulations to help prevent horrific **** like this from happening.  I'm not sure where to start though.

I'm sure the fact that people can steal guns, buy from the black market, take legally purchased firearms their relatives have, etc. doesn't make it any easier.  I keep mine locked up in a gun safe, but I'm sure a lot of owners don't, which helps contribute to the problem and allows psychos easy access, like the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Yeah, these people aren't making it any easier:

Suspect fired 24 times in fatal shooting of woman during feud over dog poop

A Denver man accused of gunning down a 21-year-old woman over a feud about dog feces reportedly fired off 24 shots from a semi-automatic rifle in the attack.

The revelations about 24-year-old suspect Michael Close’s alleged ambush that left Isabella Thallas dead and wounded her 27-year-old boyfriend, Darian Simon, were disclosed at the suspect’s preliminary court hearing Monday, KDVR reported.

Denver police homicide investigator Joseph Trujillo testified that authorities found six shell casings inside Close’s Ballpark neighborhood apartment, and 18 others outside his window.

Close is accused of firing from inside his apartment at Thallas and Simon, who were walking their dog.

3 Marines and a porn star, all white supremacists, charged in federal gun conspiracy

Four white supremacists have been charged in a conspiracy to build, transport and sell illegal guns, the Justice Department announced Friday in a press release.

Paul Kryscuk, a 35-year-old reported porn star, sold multiple manufactured weapons to 21-year-old then-Marine Liam Collins, the feds said. Kryscuk mailed the illegal DIY weapons from his homes in New York and Idaho to Collins in North Carolina.

Kryscuk and Collins were regulars on the online neo-Nazi forum Iron March back in 2017 before the site was shut down, according to the feds. During that time, they recruited Jordan Duncan, a 26-year-old ex-Marine and military contractor, and Justin Hermanson, a 21-year-old current U.S. Marine.

Duncan, who left the Corps in 2018, and Hermanson then joined the interstate gun conspiracy, the feds said.

Kryscuk, Collins and Duncan were charged last month with the federal gun crimes, but the Justice Department waited until Friday to drop the juicy white supremacist details.

According to the feds, the crew filmed a “training montage” of themselves shooting guns near Kryscuk’s home in Boise, Idaho. The video ends with all four giving the “Heil Hitler” salute under a black sun flag, a Nazi symbol. The phrase “Come home white man” then appears on screen to conclude the video.

As long as they only hurt themselves with their stupidity...

“Thought it would be funny” Men shoot each other with rubber bullets, Clovis man accidentally killed with buckshot round, deputies say

A 23-year-old man from Clovis was shot and killed after a bizarre shooting in Tollhouse Sunday night, deputies say.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s department said shortly before 10:30 P.M. that they received a call regarding a person being shot and seriously injured at a home in the 28000 block of Burrough Valley Road.

When deputies arrived they performed CPR along with EMS however the 23-year-old, identified as Bradly Smith, died a short time later.

Homicide detectives interviewed two men at the home. 30-year-old Elvis Hernandez and a second unidentified man fully cooperated during the investigation and gave the same account of what took place, according to detectives.

Detectives said the three men, who are friends, were hanging out at a house drinking alcohol. They later started handling firearms that a relative was storing at the home, investigators say.

The unidentified man eventually went to bed and investigators say Elvis and Bradly discovered some rubber bullets and “thought it would be funny” to use a shotgun to shoot the unidentified man while he was sleeping.

According to deputies they threw a mattress on top of the unidentified man and shot the mattress.

This startled the unidentified man causing him to wake up, according to investigators, though he was not seriously injured. Detectives say Bradly agreed that as payback, so the unidentified man could shoot him.

Bradly put on a military-style helmet and protective vest. The unidentified man pointed a shotgun and fired a rubber bullet at Elvis, striking him.

Bradly then told Elvis he could shoot him as well according to investigators. Elvis picked up a different shotgun than the man used and fired it at Bradly, hitting him in the upper body detectives say.

Authorities say they quickly realized Bradly was bleeding and seriously hurt, so they dialed 911.

Detectives discovered Bradly had not been struck by a rubber bullet, but by a round of buckshot (#00 buck).

It appears the men mistakenly loaded this type of lethal shell into the shotgun, according to deputies.

Floridian Offers Novel Reason For Carrying AR-15

DECEMBER 14--An intoxicated motorist who was driving with a loaded AR-15 rifle in his lap Saturday evening told police that he carried the assault weapon because he “has seen crazy stuff since moving to Florida” from Alabama, according to arrest affidavits.

Police report that Kaleb Kleiss, 20, was involved in a “traffic altercation” while driving his 2016 Volkswagen near his Clearwater apartment.

A witness told cops that Kleiss had the barrel of the AR-15 sticking out his vehicle’s driver side window. At one point, Kleiss lifted the weapon off his lap and pointed it out the window, investigators charge. “This put the witness in great fear,” an affidavit states.

When police located Kleiss, he was standing near his car, which was parked and running outside a laundromat. The AR-15 was “displayed carelessly and laying on the dashboard...in plain view of everyone walking by the store,” an officer noted.

Victory: ATF Rescinds Rule Change That Would Lead to Mass Confiscation

After outcry from Second Amendment groups and members of Congress, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has rescinded recently released guidance reclassifying millions of pistol stabilizing braces. A reminder of the rule:

Quote

Explosives (ATF) could put millions of Americans in legal jeopardy.

The ATF published a notice Thursday that could require millions of AR-15 pistols and similar firearms—which are designed with braces that strap on to a shooter's forearm—to be either registered, turned in, destroyed, or dismantled. But the standards laid out for determining the devices' legality, such as caliber or weight, provide no objective measures, and the agency said it may also use undisclosed factors to judge the legality of the devices.

The agency conceded in the notice that some pistol braces are legal and should not be subject to the registration or destruction requirement. It said, however, that it could not provide a blanket determination for which pistols, or braces with which they're often equipped, are legal and said it would have to examine each gun "on a case-by-case basis." That means owners of the vast majority of the estimated three to four million AR-15 pistols and similar firearms may have to register with the ATF.

"Upon further consultation with the Department of Justice and the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, ATF is withdrawing, pending further Department of Justice review, the notice and request for comments entitled “Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with ‘Stabilizing Braces’,” that was published on December 18, 2020," ATF released in a statement Wednesday.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is praising the move and advocating for transparency and cooperation from the agency in the future.

"NSSF had been engaging with manufacturers, distributors, retailers, as well as policymakers to highlight concerns surrounding the proposed guidance. NSSF was working to illustrate the potential impact this guidance would have had on the firearm industry," NSSF released in a statement. "NSSF has long requested the ATF to publish objective criteria by which firearm manufacturers can readily produce firearms equipped with arm braces in compliance with the law. To date, the criteria is subjective and open to interpretation on a case-by-case basis. The guidance proposed by the ATF last week did little, unfortunately, to clear the ambiguity that exists with subjective criteria."

Has anyone heard of The Liberal Gun Club and have thoughts on them?  I just heard of them for the first time the other day and only know what is on their website.  I like what they say their positions are.  But I also know groups will say one thing but behind closed doors advocate for other things.

Anyone stupid enough to fire a gun in the air for celebration should have their gun ownership rights revoked permanently.  Sad that people apparently need to be reminded that it's a stupid thing to do.

Gov. DeWine signs bill that expands Ohio ‘stand your ground’ law

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOIO) - Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed a bill Monday that expands incidents in which a person can defend themselves under a “stand your ground” law.

Senate Bill 175 states it’s no longer necessary to prove a gun owner considered the possibility of retreat before using force, so long as they “reasonably believed that the force was necessary to prevent injury, loss, or risk to life or safety.”

The bill also eliminates the requirement that a person be in their home or vehicle in order to stand their ground; the new law applies wherever a gun owner has the legal right to be.

Gov. DeWine said the bill “removes the ambiguity” in state self-defense law.

“I have always believed that it is vital that law-abiding citizens have the right to legally protect themselves when confronted with a life-threatening situation,” DeWine said in a statement.

Opponents of SB 175 said they’re worried about the bill’s impacts on people of color, who are often perceived as a threat.

Ohio House of Representatives Minority Leader Emilia Sykes wrote on Twitter “only cowards would pass and sign a bill that has been proven to disproportionately harm Black people.”
