Former school guardian arrested for pawning service gun, other equipment

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A former School Guardian is under fire for pawning gear issued to him by the sheriff’s office.

According to deputies, 37-year-old Erick Russell pawned his gun, magazines and a safety vest.

Detectives arrested Russell after it was discovered he pawned his issued firearm and equipment multiple times between July 2 and August 1.

Detectives say Russell was arrested for Domestic Battery and False Imprisonment on Sept. 5. During the arrest, deputies learned Russell was employed as a school guardian and collected his issued equipment that was provided by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

“When they ran his name in our system, as part of that domestic violence investigation, they found the pawn records, saw what the items were, and that’s how the investigation began,” Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said.

The issued equipment included a Glock 17 9mm handgun with two magazines, a Body Armor vest, and additional items that were issued for the sole purpose of performing the duties of a School Guardian.

Pizza driver trades shots with alleged robbers in Nicholasville

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — According to police, a pizza delivery driver turned the tables on some would-be robbers by pulling out his own weapon and trading shots with them in Nicholasville.

This happened outside of the Nicholasville Comfort Inn shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Police said an adult and a minor attempted to rob the Domino's driver at gunpoint when the driver pulled out his own gun.

The two groups then exchanged a brief, but wild volley of shots, leaving innocent bystanders shaken up.

"I know there were some people in the parking lot who said they took cover. Obviously we saw where some rounds had hit the building. So, I think people were kind of alerted and a little nervous about this situation," said Sgt. Kevin Grimes with the Nicholasville Police Department.

The adult suspect was the only one shot in the exchange.

He was taken to UK Hospital, where he went in to surgery on Saturday night. His condition is unknown as of Sunday morning.

The juvenile suspect is in police custody.

Denied entry with a gun: Retired police officer sues Tacoma Dome

John Stray admits he'd never heard of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden, still he tried to enter the Tacoma Dome on the night of their concert Sept. 5.

Stray is a retired 35-year veteran of the Federal Way Police department and he was conducting a test.

Would the Tacoma Dome let a retired officer with a concealed weapons permit, bring his pistol inside?

Security said no, so Stray has filed a lawsuit.

"All I'm asking of the Tacoma Dome is to follow state law. If they want to follow state law that's one thing, but they can't just make it up."

If he had been inside that night, he might have seen the out-of-control fan that was captured on video and posted online. It's an example of one of the reasons the Dome bans firearms.

But Stray's lawsuit quote state law as saying:

"…such restrictions shall not apply to: Any pistol in the possession of a person licensed under RCW 9.41.070 or exempt from the licensing requirement."

Stray says he was testing the Tacoma Dome a few weeks ago, because in 2016 he was an active duty officer in plain clothes and denied the right to accompany students from the high school he served as school resource officer.

"I said what about a detective or somebody who's on duty, who's like I am in the performance of my duty. (The security chief) said nope, couldn't do it."

Stray says off duty officers don't have a problem with concealed carry at UW's Husky Stadium. UW Police confirm that they just ask officers carrying weapons to register with security before entering.

‘Kind of scary:’ Man arrested after accidentally shooting 70-year-old friend while watching Packers

MILWAUKEE -- A Packers watch party ended with gunfire and an elderly man in the hospital Thursday night, Sept. 26 near Humboldt and Locust.

Though many were tuned into last night's game, eyes turned to the incident that unfolded around 9:15 p.m. Some residents say they heard a shot from the 9th floor.

"All of a sudden, police just pulled up in here," said Crystal Wilson, who lives in the building.

"Paramedics and fire cars everywhere," said Ranlando Gee, who lives in the building.

Evening routines and game time gatherings were cut short Thursday night after an incident inside of the Locust Court Apartments.

"It's kind of scary, and one of the neighbors did it," said Wilson.

Police say a 58-year-old man was in one of the units watching the Packers game with his friends when he shot a 70-year-old man who was watching the game with him.

"I'm kind of shocked," said Gee.

Authorities say the gunfire was accidental. The suspect was adjusting his gun from his waistband area when the shot was fired.

"He endangered other peoples' lives in here," said Gee.

Seems on reddit, and other conservative outlets, that the Kent State shooting is some sort of validation as to why we need AR-15’s as of late.

I’ve seen multiple posts that basically say:  [picture of dead Kent State protesters] THIS is why we can’t ban AR-15!

The amount of brainpower that goes into posts like that must be staggering.

Florida man accidentally shoots and kills son-in-law who jumped out of the bushes to surprise him for his birthday

A birthday surprise went horribly wrong after a man in Florida accidentally killed his son-in-law, who showed up unannounced at his house in Gulf Breeze, a suburb of Pensacola, Fla.

Christoper Bergan, 37, flew in from Norway to surprise his father-in-law Richard Dennis, 61, for his birthday, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said in a press conference on Thursday.

After arriving at an unnamed Florida airport around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Bergan, who’s married to Dennis’ daughter, headed straight to Dennis’ house for his planned surprise.

Around 11:30, he arrived at the house, and knocked on the back door. When Dennis opened the door, his son-in-law jumped out of the bushes, making a “growling sound” to wish him happy birthday, according to police reports.

Dennis got startled, grabbed his gun and shot Bergan.

Recall a story a while back about some guy who got hit by a car driven by a 17 year old girl.

He'd decided that it would be fun to stage a bigfoot sighting.  So he was dressed in the Marine "ghillie" (spelling?) camouflage suit that he'd bought, and then added twigs and leaves to, standing (obviously) in the road, in the woods, at dusk.

Deputy fired for gun discharge in Florida school cafeteria

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. -  Officials say they've fired a Florida deputy several months after his gun accidentally discharged in a middle school cafeteria.

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco announced during a news conference Wednesday that Cpl. Jonathan Cross had been terminated for conduct unbecoming a deputy and for mishandling his service weapon.

Cross was working as a school resource officer at Weightman Middle School in Wesley Chapel. An investigation determined that he had been repeatedly removing and replacing his service pistol from its holster on April 30 when the gun fired, striking a wall.

None of the students near Cross were injured.

Nocco says Cross acknowledged during the investigation that he had a habit of fidgeting with his gun.

Independent testing found nothing wrong with the weapon.
