The Sir
Im still shocked that Jones is actually fighting a quality opponent who has a semi-legit shot of beating him. Though, I think this is just a way to duck James Toney. I'll definately be watching tonight and rooting for Tarver. How about everyone else? NoCalMike
I think Roy Jones is the better all around fighter and should win, but Tarver is a lefty with one-punch knockout power, so if there is ANYONE left in the weight division that can beat Jones it is Tarver. abb.
Seems like it will be a pretty good fight. What channel will it be on?
skinsfanjoe
Its on pay per view. There is no way that Tarver has even a fraction of a chance in this fight. RJ jr is in a class by himself. I think he's really pumped up about this fight and that's not good news for Tarver. I say Roy in 8 by tko. I like Antonio but I think he's talked to much trash and Roy is really mad. Leonard Washington
jones is smart. he never fights anyone that may have a chance to beat him. the last time he had a competitive fight was when he fought toney. oddly enough he needs to fight toney again. TennesseeCarl
I was impressed that he went up to the heavyweight division - Ruiz was a good opponent for him...sort of a plodder, but still a legit heavy. Jones wants Tyson. That where the $ is.
dayumnuttinleft
Noone gives Jones credit, he's pound for pound one of the best, and when he gets mad he seeks to destroy.... And besides, who has Tarver beaten................
skinsfanjoe
jones is smart. he never fights anyone that may have a chance to beat him. the last time he had a competitive fight was when he fought toney. oddly enough he needs to fight toney again. I disagree, Jones has never ducked anyone. Most of the time people are ducking him(Hopkins). He moves up 25 pounds to fight guys that make him look like a twerp and you say he doesn't fight anyone. I personally think he can beat Lennox Lewis, he's the best pound for pound fighter that I've ever seen, I've never even seen him look like there was a remote chance he was in trouble during a fight. The man is amazing in the ring.
Leonard Washington
i'm not saying jones isn't a good fighter because the guys he fights he demolishes them. but hopkins isn't ducking jones. the deal he offered hopkins was awful. i think jones wanted 20mil to hopkins 3 or 5. hopkins, being able to tell the difference between numbers obvioulsy turned it down and jones called him out saying he's ducking him. i don't know who would win. i think most people agree that jones lucked out when he got the title from ruiz. i can admit ruiz could do nothing with him. it was a sight to see jones giggling on the ropes as ruiz "worked the body". i think an above average heavy weight like the huge russian guys or lennox "i duck everybody" lewis would just walk jones into the corner and physically dominate him. The man is amazing in the ring. Damn, I wish I had the time to break this down for you, but I dont right now. He has blatantly ducked Hopkins, but I dont have time to get into that right now. I will talk about this a little though. Moving up 25 pounds to heavyweight to fight Ruiz meant nothing. Ruiz had no chance whatsoever of beating him. That was quite apparent to any real boxing fan. It looked good to the casual fans, damn he's moving up and fighting heavyweight, he's amazing. Just an elaborate way to make fighting chumps look like a big deal. Thats all Roy Jones is. Jones may be able to beat Tarver, probably will, but I think Tarver can give him a fight at least. Jones cannot beat a quality heavyweight and theres not many. He couldnt beat Lennox Lewis, thats for damn sure. He wants Tyson next, thats just a way to duck James Toney. Moving back down to 175 was a way to duck him, and fighting Tyson is another. A loss to Tyson would mean nothing, everyone would think the same of Jones. But a win would get him even more respect, most of it undeserved. The real fights would be Hopkins, Toney, or Lewis. If you want to be a champion, if you want to proclaim yourself fighter of the era, fight the fights. He looks for ways to get out of these fights and will probably never fight one fo those 3 before he retires. And Im aware that he's fought Hopkins and Toney before. But Hopkins has improved SO MUCH since then, just watch the man fight. Watch him **** up Joppy, who is actually the top comp he has in his weight class. Roy Jones did beat Toney at 175, but he can NOT beat Toney as a cruiserweight or a heavyweight, i guarantee you that. And obviously, he'd have no chance agianst Lewis. I wouldnt fight Lewis either if I were him, Lewis is just too damn big and too damn smart for Jones to have any chance whatsoever. My only problem with him not fighting Lewis is the fact that he acts like he's a real heavyweight champion, but he's not.
RDSKNfaithfull
No no no Jones has ducked nobody. He told Hopkins "60-40 I'll woop your a55" 1.He has already beat Hopkins 2.He is the Champ, the man at the top of the sport There is no way you can break it down Jones is the best pound for pound out. He has won at every weight class. If Hopkins wanted to step it up he would not say 50-50 or nothing that is ludacris.

The Sir
Hopkins was also the Champ, at 160, 16 consecutive title defenses, a record in boxing. He was asking Hopkins to move up TWO weight classes and take less money. Hopkins said if the fight was at 168, he'd take 60-40. Thats not even what I'm talking about when I talk about Jones ducking Hopkins, I cant get into that though, im trying to play some ESPN bball on xbox live. The Sir
Floyd Mayweather, you could argue he's better pound for pound. Hopkins is lighter and I feel he'd win against Jones at 160, 168, or 175. He's probably not the more talented boxer, in terms of ability. But he'll force Jones to fight his fight and would beat him. Hopkins has gotten SO MUCH better since 1993. Toney would beat Jones as a cruiserweight or heavyweight, but he's probably not better pound for pound. He'd beat him though. My boy Manny Pacquaio(sp?) is sick, he's probably better pound for pound.
Tarhog
God, do we really need another 'Roy Jones can raise the dead and cure cancer' thread? Its pretty obvious that some guys think he's the best fighter ever. Others (I include myself here) think he's talented, but hasn't faced enough top class fighters in their prime to get the nod as one of the top 5 boxers of all time. I admit I don't like his unorthodox style. And if he wanted to shut up all of the doubters, he could've picked a bigger threat than John Ruiz to prove the point. I'd rate him all time in hand speed and quickness. But not as a boxer. Bottom line. No ones going to change their mind here. You either love him or you don't. The Sir
In a dream world, Antonio Tarver would beat Roy Jones tonight and prove how much most people(mostly casual boxing fans) overrate roy. And then Hopkins would move up 2 weight classes and beat Tarver. Thats one of the few ways Hopkins could show he's better than Roy Jones, he certainly wont be able to do it by beating Jones because Jones is never going to stop ducking him. RDSKNfaithfull
No doubt he can be beat, anybody and everybody can be beat. I would like to see more people try to get at Cris Byrd. Who else has moved up and dominated? I agree though its all opinion and we can argue all day.............so back to the skins lmao here is one would you rather take a shot on the chest from Jones or would you rather do oklahoma with Lavar? Tarhog
Through the years, there have been a lot of guys who seemed unstoppable. Recently I felt that way about Shane Mosley, Tito, Morales, Kostya Tszyu to name a few. Each of them has been shown to be flawed, and facing the right opponent, vulnerable. My issue with proclaiming Jones master of all he surveys is that he hasn't risked it all often enough with opponents strong enough or quick enough to show us that fatal flaw. Of course, it might be that there AREN'T any opponents strong enough or quick enough. I just don't feel he's taken enough risk fights over the years to prove it. He's damn good, no doubt about it. But one of these nights, he'll be proved human. Doubt its tonight. He does seem to have heard the criticism over the past few years over the palookas he was fighting, and I give him props for bumping up the competition here recently. dayumnuttinleft
Atl, your the one that rides hs DYCK, you just have a personal vendetta against Jones, I read some of your other post and you were also sucking James Toney's Dyck. You don't like Jones and that's that. But give credit where credits due. Dude he beat both of them, he beat Hopkins and he beat Toney , what more do you want him to do.. Whup Your A@@.....
