No "hot routes" is the problem.

How can you expect to run an offense with so many weapons and passing routes without any hot routes? For those of you who don't know what a hot route is, it's a route that WR's run when they see blitzes coming. It allows the receiver to run to where the blitzer came from and allows the QB to release the ball quick. Every team in the NFL has hot routes, but Spurrier insists that WR's run the designated route that was called, and that they do not stray from this. Doesn't this seem to be an issue that needs to be addressed?

Akad for those who do not know the entire damn fun ngun is predicated on hot READS and ROUTES the theory being if the qb reads blitz he audibles and when he is pressured he throws to the vacated area! You need a QB who has the experience and knowledge to find those areas before he gets hit and early on ramsay was doing it but i think right now he is getting shell shocked.so yes spurrier wants his guys to run the play, in addition in the NFL teams are great at disguising blitzes so you get Pat checking out of a play into one they want him to call! and for the love of god guys lets at least read the first page then we wont have so many guys bithing about simultaneous threads.

Well, that's just it. The hot reads that we use are an audibled route instead of the receivers seeing the blitz. This is a major issue. If Ramsey is constantly calling audibles because the defense is professional and not a f*ck*ng college D, Ramsey has to read and call the audible. This is absolutely ridiculous, because NFL teams will change their defensive scheme with 5 seconds on the play clock and we're f*ck*d!! If Spurrier insists on every passing play being perfect every time, we don't stand a chance. Hell, we're better off going no huddle and just calling audibles constantly until Ramsey feels Spurrier will be happy with the matchup. Come on man! We play scared. We play like we need to get over on teams to have a succesful gain. B*llsh*t!! Spurrier has the confidence of a squirel crossing the road. He needs to trust his talent and just have specific routes, and audibles that are simple basic changes. These guys are going "what the f*ck man" every time they step up for a play. How would you feel if the play is constantly being changed because the linebackers are moving around and safeties step up? I'd be a little concerned if my coach and QB were so "worried" and "paranoid" about me making a play without being wide the f*ck open. It is getting worse every week man. Spurrier is trying too hard, and the "fun" in the "gun" is the most important part!! These guys are so overwhelmed it's ridiculous!! I say have fun, make it more simple, and just let everything else come together. F*ck it!! We couldn't look any worse.

Here's the thing about hot reads.

When it's third and seven and the opposing team runs a hot read offense, you can be safe blitzing your OLB's and corners knowing thatthe hot read is a dump off play that won't make a first down.

You know how we always b!tch and moan about how recievers go 6 yards on 3rd and 7? It's called a hot read.

To me the best thing about the spurrier offense is that we never have these completions that don't make the first down marker, and I think the fact that our offense does not posess this weakness is a strength when compared to the traditional "hot-read" offenses around the NFL.

Does it put more pressure on the QB to not have these little "hot-read" plays? Yes, but i the answer is that this means that we have to give up first downs on third and 8, it may not be worth it.
