Am I the only one concerned about our secondary?

We better dialup the aggressiveness or our DBs will get torched like this all year.

Don't let anyone get behind you leads to many missed tackles flying up out of control

Hopefully its our preseason motto only.

It's so simple. Tight man help over the top, attack the QB. **** the Carlos Cushion all game long, our favorite the bend don't break. Let the guys be aggressive from the snap and they have a chance. Like the back half of 2012. Our porous DBs did just fine led by Madieu Williams.

Well, if preseason is any indication (it's not), Barry definitely likes to blitz on obvious passing downs. The theme has been force the QB to get rid of the ball quick, come up and make the tackle.

Obviously, it hasn't been good when the tackle is missed, like we saw with Goldson and Steve Smith (not the TD play, there was one on 3rd and 8 or something where Steve catches the crosser and Goldson has the angle on him and misses).

Sounds a bit like Haslett's gameplan vs the Cowboys.

BTW, I'm down on Amerson like everyone else, but I'd be curious to see him against a rangier type of wr (as opposed to a great route runner with burst). I know it's been talked to death, but I also have to wonder if he'd be a better fit as a safety - more room to operate, can eye the qb more, doesn't have to worry about press, etc.

I'd rather have the LFC back 4 playing secondary

True 'dat. Which says it all.  :(.

It's obviously passed now, but I'd of MUCH rather followed Scherff last April with Tartt or Rowe for safety or a Darby for corner. I'd even of been tempted to move back up for limited cost to snag Jones from Dallas. (Hate, hate HATE that they have him. .).

Instead we chose to take a 43, hand in the dirt run stuffing end in the hope that we can convert him to an OLB in a 34.

Trust in Mac but that ones a perennial head scratcher until such time as he proves different.

Corner and safety, both slots, has to be a MAJOR priority next offseason.

Hail.

This is really a great point. Amerson is way more successful against bigger body WRs. He struggles against the speedier, change direction on a dime guys like Steve Smith.

Heck, against the Ravens, he did fine against every one of their WRs except Steve Smith.

They played their butts off. I'd play more man press though. I can't stand the soft crap underneath. Seems like our CBs are more comfortable when they're in guys faces. Breeland in particular.

Fewell is a good secondary coach. 2nd best coach on the staff after Callahan.

Why did we have so much trouble stopping the run, though?

They ran wide and our DTs got sealed inside. Don't know about the rest of the linebackers, but I noticed Murphy couldn't get off his blocks to save his life. Someone mentioned the gaps on the outside were just too wide to cover. Freeman's also a great fit there - quick cuts, decisive, fast enough to get through the gaps untouched. Then of course, our D was on the field far more than usual and looked gassed. Add to all that we seemed to play a bunch of nickel and didn't bring a safety into the box (trying to protect our corners). All in all, a recipe for disaster.

I like press coverage myself. Rough em up for about five yards and give the line more time to get pressure.

I do to, but it doesn't really seem to fit Barry's philosophy (keeping everything in front of the D). Think he needs to turn to it a bit more when teams are executing the quick strikes and moving the chains (like at NYG) as a change up. I do think as the D gets more comfortable he'll throw more wrinkles in there.
